OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Set Date And Time To Ebay Network Server
May 28, 2012
In the system preferences I would like to set the date and time to ebay UK time? I thought a quick google would be bring up the server and I can't find it. At the bottom of every ebay page there is a link to official ebay time. But its not a live feed of time to get it to the second. I want it to be accurate so that I can use applescript to snipe bargains.

My Mac Book Pro forgets time, date and network password when battery runs flat. My software is up to date. The computer is about three years, but surely it shouldn't be necessary to change battery every three years?

I had a network account 'sharedmail' on my server. I made some mistake with OpenDirectory and it disappeared from accounts in Workgroup Manager. The directory still exists with all its data. How can I recover this account (make it appear in Workgroup Manager)? This account only contains emails : if it can't be recovered, how can I import emails into a new account? All my users' account appear on login screen (yes, it is not safe but my network is private). This 'sharedmail' account also appears but I would like it to be invisible. I tried to lower its ID under 500 but it does not work : is there a way to hide this account?

We have two suites of apple mac's and we have an apple server (mac mini) They are all running Mac OSX SL 10.6.8 Basically I'd like the server to add an icon to a network share onto each dock so that I don't have to visit each and everyone manually. The guy who used to admin the mac's has left so I'm left to learn everything mac and at present I can only basically use a mac (i'm keen and learning). He used to copy a link over manually somehow I don't know, but the file is a .app file which I believe he placed into the applications folder and ran it like that. I've tried this and it doesnt work. Also he has somehow locked the desktops down so that all the menus are greyed out. The "Go" menu is completely greyed out. He's left instructions on how to unrestrict by using a specific username and password. Even under administrator they are unrestricted.Â

I've got networked clients logging in and occasionally having problems, especially with shared logons. I bet changing the location of temporary files from the home folder (on the server) to the local machine would fix a lot of issues.

I have been having somewhat sketchy network problems since upgrading to Snow Leopard the biggest one is that large updates to Time Machine fail with a network error. So I have been doing some digging and I noticed on my stats at OpenDNS that since installing Snow Leopard the requests to time.apple.com have gone from 175/day (already more than necessary) to 1745/day. Also the requests made by OpenDNS updater to myip.dnsomatic.com have gone from 36/day to 1462/day.

Since my upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6, the "Mail 4.5" stop before getting automatically of all my mailboxes. I have to manually request a statement of my different accounts. Is there a way to slow the flow, because I feel that the server does not have time to respond to flow?

I have Time Machine backing up my MacMini Snow Leopard Server to an external harddrive.  When the backup runs, it never completes, but it also does not throw an error message. It just gets stuck around 300MB or so and eventually starts over. As you can see it does not seem to backup everything. I have tried using TimeTracker to see what it might be getting stuck on but I can't really make heads or tails of it. I have even removed the old backup and started a new one. It backs up once fully (I think) and then after that it just gets stuck like this.Â
I should mention the drive it backs up is two separate partitions SnowLeopard Server Volume and PrimeRoot Volume, both of which need to be backuped. I was thinking maybe a permissions issue? But I just don't know where to look.

The OS X 10.6.x Server running Time machine, it runs daily backup to external HD, it is fine, but for couple of days, it failed, is there any logs or message that I can read what is going on? The external HD connected with firewire 800 and it still have enough space, so I think it is not a space problem

We have a Macbook and an iMac, both on Snow Leopard. Set them up on TC for backup several months ago, and they worked for a while. Then it stopped working for no obvious reason, with the message:Â
The network backup disk could not be accessed because there was a problem with the network username or password. Open Time Machine preferences to select the network backup disck and re-enter the correct username and password.Â
Of course userame and password were correct, because, first of all, they had not been changed, and second, because I could put in the wrong pw and it immediately would reject it. As it is, it takes it, counts down for 120 seconds, and then gives the above message.Â
Bought a new Macbook Pro, using Lion, and it works with the TC, seemingly proving that all settings on the TC are still good. Tried resetting TC. Tried the Cmd-Alt-p-r reboot, but neither worked.

I have 2 macs in my house.. a macbook pro and a macbook air. I have an old dell desktop running windows 7 that has a terabyte external harddrive hoooked up to it. I want to be able to use it as a network time machine drive. Both laptops are running snow leopard. I was wondering is this possible and if so, how can I do it. Currently I am able to see the desktop and the external hardrive on my network from the macs, and I am able to drag and drop onto them, however I want to be able to use time machine.

So I have a 15" MBP running Snow Leopard and have recently installed a Western Digital MyBook 1TB World Edition on the network to serve as my Time Machine backup drive. Most of the time, it works flawlessly and OSX / Time Machine does its thing and backs up.
Every once in a while, Time Machine says backup has been delayed because it cannot locate the network drive. This when I can easily access the network drive from other machines on the network, and also from my MBP in Finder. It's just Time Machine that somehow fails to find that drive. When I enter Time Machine preferences and look for the drive, it brings it up immediately and asks me for the username and pwd and viola ... it's up and running again.

So I shut down my computer earlier today for the first time in weeks. I restarted it and then left for a few hours for dinner.
I come home and I look at the last time MobileMe Sync and Time Machine did their things. They say they did them at 7:45. I look at the clock on my cable box and on my iPhone, both say 6:45.
Weird that the MacBook's time is wrong. I go into Time Date settings. I see that when the MacBook does the "Auto locate where you are so that we can set the appropriate time zone, etc. the MacBook things I'm in Rexford, Idaho.
I haven't been to Idaho in about 25 years, and my MacBook has been sitting in Southern Kalifornia for the last one year since I bought it.I've tried to have the MacBook auto-locate again, and it keeps finding me us in Rexford, idaho.

I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a G4 iBook. Somehow my Time & Date files got corrupted which prevented me from getting on to the internet. When I discovered the problem, I threw them away, thinking a restart would create them again. I was wrong.
Now my computer doesn't know what time or year it is, causing various problems. I don't have back-up 10.5 disks to extract the time & date package. Can I download a replacement anywhere?
Or can someone email the files to me? I don't know what they're called but, if you search time and date, there are only two (and please tell me what folders they're in too)

I tried Repairing Permissions and rebooting but it didn't help.I tried deleting .plist entries (as per a related thread on the Internet) and rebooting and that didn't work either.I tried logging off and logging in with another account and the problem is still there.I hope I can get some help because it's driving me nuts. I travel a lot and need to change my time zone. If you need a crash report from me, please tell me how to get it from Console bc I don't know where to look for it!

As promised, Apple on Tuesday updated its website with information on how customers purchasing a new Mac or Xserve before the release of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard in September can request a copy of the new operating system for just $10 in shipping and handling. The Mac maker has broken the Up-to-Date Program into two sections: "Hardware Up-To-Date" for customers purchasing a new Mac running Mac OS X client software and "Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server Up-To-Date" for those buying an Xserve running Mac OS X Server. Hardware Up-To-Date Customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac computer (list of models) or a qualifying Apple Certified Refurbished computer (list of models) on or after June 8, 2009 that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard can upgrade to Snow Leopard for $9.95 plus tax. To participate, your completed order form must be postmarked or faxed within 90 days of the date of your purchase of the qualifying Mac or by December 26, 2009, whichever is earlier. If you purchased your Mac directly from the Apple Online Store, follow one of these links to participate in the program:...........

So I just got a MacBook from the Apple Online Store, and Im trying to fill out the Up To Date form for Snow Leopard, but it won't work. When I click on the link for people who got their Mac from a retail store t loads a page asking for my Serial Number etc.... If I click the link that says "If you purchased online" all I get is a log-in and that an empty shopping cart. Am I missing something? I really don't want to mail my form in.
and since for some reason they removed it from their site the link is (URL)

Just a quick question; I just received a SL upgrade DVD for one of my Macs, in the post, and it had the disc number: "2Z691-6557-A". I was a bit surprised that the DVD just came in a simple paper sleeve, tossed into a padded envelope with 2nd class postage. Is this the experience of others?. Also, is this particular upgrade DVD (with the same disc number as mine) capable of erase and install?. I don't like doing upgrades, I'd rather start fresh.

When I click on the link on the Apple Store webpage, it just asks me to sign in to my account. Once I do that, it takes me to my cart which says empty.
I qualify for the program, and I purchased the unit online through the ADC store.

I didn't know where to post this question. When I import photos from my Canon T3i and my iPhone4, the creation date of the photo is the date imported, not the date I took the photo. While in Finder, if I look at the photo information, the creation date is the date the photo was imported (for both the Canon and iPhone photos). I'm trying to understand why this is happening. When I import the photos into iPhoto, the date I took the photo is there. While that seems like the solution, it isn't since I don't import all photos into iPhoto. If I look at the photos on the memory card, the date is correct. The only time the creation date is not correct is when I import on to my iMac or MacBook. I'm using Snow Leopard and have no plans to upgrade to Lion.Â
