Apr 6, 2012my problem is that on a restart of one of my 10.6.8 Servers parts of the Serveradmin configs are gone while some of them persists. The lost configs are everytime the same: VPN (complete) and iChat (a secondary but very important Host-Domain). Of course a can restore them from a backup but that shouldn't the standard procedure after a restart....

Mar 22, 2012i have a domain controller and active directory based policy win 2003, one xserve running mac os x server 10.6.8 and alot of macs workstations. How can i push login script on all macs without adding it in login items? The script i want to store on smb or afp share disk, and will be edited from time to time. I've tried to add it on xserve from WGM, but it threw an error that current directory schema doesn't store desktop settings.So how can i solve this?

Apr 25, 2012I just made a TM backup of two user accounts (A & B) on one iMac.I now want to delete the files and accounts from the iMac and create a new user account.(A & B shared this computer and it is now going to be used by a third person alone. I don't want all the additional unused A & B account data clogging the hard drive.) If I delete the original A & B user accounts, will I still be able to access the backed up files? How?

May 17, 2012My Mac Mini locked up when it was downloading an update. I tried to reload the operating system from the disk shipped with the computer and it would not (said that a newer version had already been installed.So I restored from time machine, but the applications were not being backed up. I have been able to load my propriatary programs, but I cannot get the bundled Apple programs that come with the computer... So I cannot adjust system preferences or time machjine preferences. I have noe dik utility etc. How can I get the basic programs back?

Unfortunately, I tried to edit the index.html file and changed all of the CSS formatting so now my page just looks like a simple text page without any images. My HTML coding skills aren't excellent so I cannot reconfigure the file in the same format. Is there a way reset the index.html file?

Mar 22, 2012I am running a Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Server and have configured a global security policy using the following command:[code] When a network user is logging in from the login screen, it disables the users account after 3 attempts.This is the behaviour I expect (maxFailedLoginAttempts=3).When a user locks thier screen, a password is required to return to the desktop (also part of the intended security policy).If a user enters an incorrect password for the screensaver, it immediately locks the the networked account. To be clear, it takes only one failed attempt to lock a networked user's account from the screensaver.I have tested local accounts set up with the same global password policy, and the screensaver locks the account after 3 failed attempts, as I would expect.Anyone know how to make the screesaver not be so fussy?

Apr 27, 2012We are using Mac OS X 10.6.8 in a classroom. Hard drive has two partitions, one for OS and apps, the other for student's files. Computers are bind to the Active Directory. Unfortunately, local home folders are on the boot parition. Over a time when apps FCP and Avid are frequently used, the boot partition gets filled with files and finally it's full. With zero kb available, users cannot even login anymore. Manually deleting files by admin is cumbersome and time-consuming task.
I'm looking for a way to keep /Users folder clean. Putting user's home folders to server is not an option, because of latency issues etc. Unfortunately the local home folder is the default saving place when user issues the Save As command. I've tried to tinker with the User Template to lock the Documents folder but apps like Microsoft Word and Final Cut Pro go crazy when they cannot save there. Forwarding /Users to other partition does not solve the problem, it just moves the problem to another place. Logout Hook to automatically purging the files could be an solution, but there's always one hapless soul who saves his or hers files to wrong place and loses them. Or maybe a script which looks at the modfication date and deletes old files.

When we click Apple-I on the users we see it is very low space uses, but this is because all the private folders are blocked. Apr 1, 2012When I tried to check my email on my mac this morning I got a message saying the account was offline. It asked for my mobileme password which I put in but it was rejected with the message:
"The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “xxxx.xxxx”
Enter your password again or cancel."
I also get this pop-up message when I re-enter my password:
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “MobileMe” or try again.
The server returned the error: Moved: [URL]
I know the password to be correct as I've signed into both my mobileme and icloud accounts online. I switched to an icloud account several weeks ago.

Jun 27, 2012I have a OD domain that I've been adding systems too, and I've just about got it dialed in. Now I'd like to enable a global password policy, and I'm curious what actually happens when I flip the switch in Server Admin > Open Directory > Settings > Policies > Passwords? If I set a "reset every 90 days" option, is that from the time the policy is enabled, or from the time the user account was created? If I set a "must have one letter" or "numeric character", etc...and the user doesn't currently have a password that matches this criteria, will they be forced to set a new password immediately, or the next time one is initiated? Basically what I'm trying to figure out is how many support tickets I'm going to have, and (almost more importantly) when.
