OS X :: CPU Heats Up Then No App Will Run
Jun 7, 2010For the past 3 nights my CPU suddenly heats up for about 30 seconds making the fans excessively loud. Then after it cools down no application nor file will open. A restart solves the problem but I'd rather know why this is happening.

MacBook Pro :: Heats Up While Playing Games?
Mar 31, 2012I know the heating up issue has been raised several times all over the internet. But none of the discussions has satisfied my the concerns I have with my system. So I am going to put my case a new, although I believe the answers are going to be the same as on other similar discussions.
I recently bought MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2.2 GHz, late 2011, OS X Lion). The system usually runs perfectly. I just have two issues:
i. Occassionally it freezes up when more then one apps are running. I have noticed this is usually when Firefox is running in the background. Also happened with Safari a couple of times.
But my main concern and query is the point no. ii (below)
ii. During the normal usuage the fans don't make a noise (even with multiple apps that are not burden on the RAM). The systems heat up is as normal as that of a PC while running on its normal situation. However, when I play games (like BioShock, Sims etc) Mac just heats up immensly and fans kick in. I have never seen/felt a computer get this hot before.

Jun 24, 2014My late 2012 MacBook Pro overheats when asleep. The fan blasts until it shuts itself down (I get a message). This started after the most recent update. I am at 10.9.3. Also, I now have a magenta flash when starting up. Now I always shut down the computer when I am done so it won't destroy itself.

Jul 18, 2009I bought Apple Cinema Display and a MBP Unibody. I was told that the lid of the MBP must be closed from boot-up so that the display will be transferred to ACD. I did this, I found out that after a while, even with no high cpu load or usage... it become very hot and fan goes up.
The heat goes away when I open the lid... I tried putting a cooler fan below the MBP.

MacBook Pro :: GPU Over Heats When Viewing Videos On Safari... How To Make It Cool
May 8, 2010Not sure if anyone else has this problem or not, I noticed on my 2007 model MacBook Pro, that when I view videos through either Safari, Firefox or any other browser, my GPU temp goes up to around 81 degree celsius unless fans kick in OR I set them to kick in.
I observe temp using iStat Widget.
On the other hand, I just finished watching a movie on my very same laptop through VLC, that is through a media player and not through flash and noticed that temperature barely hit 63 degree celsius. I know flash still has issues and that this will not probably improve with my model ever in the future, but is it normal and should I live with it?

Jun 13, 2012I own a early 2011 edition of MBP, with 2.3 Ghz i5 processor and 4 GB ram. Everytime it wakes up from the sleep mode, it heats up with the internal fans constantly on.. Moreover, the estimated battery life shows as 2 hours even when the percentage is 97%.. However, when I restart the MBP, the heating stops and the battery life shows 5 hours..

Even when they are directly connected with ethernet cable, I can see the imac but not connect with it. I can connect to the macbook from the imac, but not vice-versa. My network is ethernet through linksys WRT610 router. Repeated attempts to connect from the macbook result in "connection failed" message and "imac may not exist or is not available."

-one new MacBook Pro (running Snow Leopard)
-a legitimate, family pack DVD for Leopard
I want to:
-reformat the iMac and install Leopard on the iMac via Target Mode/firewire using the DVD drive on my MBP
However, when I try to boot the MBP from the Leopard DVD, nothing happens.
I know this is kind of a mess, but it's the only viable solution I have been able to come up with. I can't install Leopard on the iMac from the Leopard DVD because I can't see the screen (due to the huge crack on my iMac) and it does not show up on the extra monitor.
Is there a way to safely force the MBP to boot from the Leopard install DVD?

I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.

Dec 25, 2010I got a G4 iMac with a 1ghz powerPC and 512MB ram for Christmas - it came with Leopard.
It's not horrible slow but you can tell it's trudging along quite choppily at times (when I try to load anything in flash or youtube it can't handle it).
Would I be better off going to Tiger? I've never used Tiger before - would my experience on Tiger be horrible compared to Leopard?
