View 2 RepliesThis is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.
It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".
I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:
1)normal install - fail
2)repair permission - fail
3)install in safe mode - fail
4) install using another admin acc - fail
5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail
6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai
7)updated my system and install - fail
8) reinstall the mac - fail
i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?

I've been trying to install and use BootCamp from Apple, so I can use Visual Basic for my classes. Obviously, I need Windows for this. Anyway, i downloaded BootCamp, installed it, and then Windows XP. After this I was told to insert my OSX disc to get the drivers. Well nothing happened at all. I suppose because this install of Leopard didn't include BC, it was a seperate download.I then read that BC Assistant should give me the option to burn a drivers disc. I looked at the provided screenshots, and right where the button should have been, there was nothing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using a iMac PowerPC G5 that I've received from my brother. He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? Do I have to buy a new Leopard install disc? If so where and how much?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe internal hard drive on my early 2009 iMac is being replaced but I have to reinstall Snow Leopard myself.I did search in MRoogle and at Apple and cannot seem to find instructions on how to perform a clean Snow Leopard install on an iMac internal HD.
Can I do this? And if so how? Or do you think I should try and install Leopard on the existing Hd in the iMac? I still have these discs but have to get the SL applications install disc out of my drive (it's stuck and the iMac won't boot past the blue screen).
I jsut did a fresh install. wanted to use my SL DVD but the MBP i5 refused to star with it so I used the original DVD (10.5) and upgraded with the SL DVD to 10.6. However after the initial SL Installation, it tried from the SL DVD and this failed. I did a manual restart, starting from the HD and everything ran fine. however today I note there is a locked file on the HD named Mac OS X Install Data. It contains 181 .pkg files. Now I suppose this should have been moved or deleted as part of the install process. Can I move them to a file where they belong?

I purchased the new Mac Box Set with Leopard 10.5.6, iLife '09 and iWork '09.
I was 50/50 on which type of Leopard install I wanted to perform today.
Looks like the disc made the choice for me and performed, what I'm assuming, is the upgrade. All of my files, settings, etc. were intact after the reboot.
Did a search through here but couldn't find anything concrete. What are the differences between a fresh Snow Leopard install and a factory Snow Leopard install? I ask because I bought an Intel SSD and don't know if I should bother cloning the hard drive that will come with my new 15" MBP or I should just install a fresh copy from a Snow Leopard install disc. I'm aware macs come with next to no junk pre-installed, but are there some factory settings that are worth preserving if they aren't documented well?

I tried to install Snow Leopard on my MacBookPro but it cannot install and cannot be ejected. I need to eject.
The reason for this is a long story. My logic board was replaced and my Mac was wiped clean. I am not trying to recover from back up but could not figure out the next step after the recovery finished. So I tried to install OSX from the disk that came with my Mac. Probably not the right corrective action.
I need to remove the Snow Leopard DVD and finish my recovery.
I'm new to Mac. I feel I have been suitably rehabilitated from my former ways. I bought a MacBook Pro. It came with an installation disc for Leopard. I'm not sure if it's an image or if it's the OS install DVD. I bought a Mac Pro, quad Xeon 64 bit monster. The guy I bought it from had to retain the HDD for legal reasons. So, I bought a couple of drives that I'll slot in. Question: Can I use the install disc from my MacBook Pro to install Leopard on my Mac Pro?

I have just migrated from mobileme to icloud. I now have no calendar on my ipad and only one child's calender (out of three childrens +2 other calendars) shows up on my macbook and entries are changed to wrong days. I have everything on my iphone but do not want to plug it in for fear of losing all data (I do have a back up on an external HD) How do I get all the correct data from my iphone calendar to the ipad and macbook? I have checked discussions and there are many similiar issues but no replies with resolution.

I have:
-one iMac with cracked screen -- currently being used via dual monitor setup
-one new MacBook Pro (running Snow Leopard)
-a legitimate, family pack DVD for Leopard
I want to:
-reformat the iMac and install Leopard on the iMac via Target Mode/firewire using the DVD drive on my MBP
However, when I try to boot the MBP from the Leopard DVD, nothing happens.
I know this is kind of a mess, but it's the only viable solution I have been able to come up with. I can't install Leopard on the iMac from the Leopard DVD because I can't see the screen (due to the huge crack on my iMac) and it does not show up on the extra monitor.
Is there a way to safely force the MBP to boot from the Leopard install DVD?

One of an ongoing series of issues moving to Lion (whatta workout!). This one involves Mail and iCloud. Porting my MobilMe to iCloud has been problematic - I' ve been asked to do it three or four times, with each time being succesful when viewing through Safari. But now I've realized that the iCloud mail is not being picked up by Mail on my iMac (2009). I go to System Preferences to see if I can do something about it, but iCloud isn't there - just MobileMe.
So I click on MobileMe and (again) it asks me to move everything to iCloud. I do this and some error is generated (can't get it to replicate & don't recall what it was), and I can't sign in - it doesn't recognize my login, although I'm still currently in iCloud via Safari - clear as mud? Yikes. Bottom line: Mail can't get at iCloud mail to download, and sign-in seems broken. In 25 years on a Mac, I've never come across this level of Windows-like challenges.

My friend wants Exchange support on mail but is on Leopard. I don't completely feel comfortable installing Snow Leopard on their machine because they don't have a backup, so I was wondering for my peace of mind before tomorrow if anybody had any experience with installing Mail from the Snow Leopard install disc onto Leopard.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to buy a new refurbish that will ship with Snow Leopard. I'm mainly buying it for the HD, RAM, and physical upgrades.
I have Final Cut Studio and Photoshop and I don't want to pay the $299 upgrade and rather stick with leopard on the new machine.
Is there any way I can uninstall Snow Leopard and install Leopard on the new mac so that I can continue to use my software?
I need to know before I purchase the new one ASAP so i can sell my older machine.
on the release of Leopard i bought it from the Apple store for my macBook (intel) and when i got it home put in the disc it popped up i clicked restart and the Apple logo loaded and then got the spinning wheel, left it nearly 6 hours to my return it was exactly the same, i did this 5 or 6 times and it happened everytime i tried. I thought it was my disc drive so got a firewire DVD RW and tried that but still nothing. I thought possibly the disc and the Mac read all DVDs, VDs Photoshop, iLife Office discs and more.
i forgot about it and carried on with Tiger, then i bought the Snow leopard upgrade and guess what - It does exactly the same! Why can't i install them when my CD drive is working?
Mac is out of warrenty im sure of it (not sure how to check) so don't want to get stung by Apple prices?
i kno i might be late with this...but i am just trying to upgrade from Tiger on my old G5 Tower...But when i put the Leopard disk into my tower it doesnt let me archive & install...has anyone had this prob.?

How can I get iCloud without Lion?
Is there a way to upgrade to ICloud if I'm only using 10.5.8?? I have 2 computers - powerbook G4 (single processor), and IMac desktop (single processor). Yes, these are very old Apple computers. Apple is putting everything to ICloud, when I tried to upgrade it says the system must be running 10.7 (Lion).

Like everyone else, I am attempting to migrate from MobileMe to the Cloud. I am running 10.5 on my iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo). It appears that I need to upgrade from 10.5 (leopard) to 10.6 (snow leopard) BEFORE upgrading from 10.6 to 10.7 (lion). Will someone please confirm that the above is correct and that there is no shortcut from 10.5 directly to 10.7? If the above is correct, what is the easiest and least expensive way to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6? Do I have to purchase the physical disk from the Apple Store, or is there an easier way via on-line?
