OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Any Way To Upgrade To ICloud On G4?
Apr 10, 2012
Is there a way to upgrade to ICloud if I'm only using 10.5.8?? I have 2 computers - powerbook G4 (single processor), and IMac desktop (single processor). Yes, these are very old Apple computers. Apple is putting everything to ICloud, when I tried to upgrade it says the system must be running 10.7 (Lion).

Like everyone else, I am attempting to migrate from MobileMe to the Cloud. I am running 10.5 on my iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo). It appears that I need to upgrade from 10.5 (leopard) to 10.6 (snow leopard) BEFORE upgrading from 10.6 to 10.7 (lion). Will someone please confirm that the above is correct and that there is no shortcut from 10.5 directly to 10.7? If the above is correct, what is the easiest and least expensive way to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6? Do I have to purchase the physical disk from the Apple Store, or is there an easier way via on-line?Â

I am curious about the system requirement of Snow Leopard. Since the performance and speed are better on SL, I think Snow Leopard will consume a little bit more resource of our macs., although I know Snow Leopard is just only the refinement of the software.
So, my question is that WILL YOU UPGRADE YOUR RAM OF YOUR MAC?

My husband and I rely heavily on our shared calendars through MobileMe and I've yet to switch to iCloud because of the complications I'm sensing it will cause us.I have an old MacBook that I've read can't be upgraded to Lion because it doesn't have the necessary hardware.I use iCal mostly in my MacBook and on my iPhone when I'm on the go. My husband just uses it on his iPhone. My question is - when I am forced to switch over to iCloud, will we lose our calendars that I can use on my MacBook? Will they only be available on our iPhones or online? Am I able to have all the functionality of our current calendars (with relative ease of use and syncing from a computer) without having to get a whole new computer/upgraded hardware?

I purchased an icloud storage upgrade in anticipation of using it to manage my apple email across two systems - desktop and laptop. Teh desktop is snow leopard the laptop testing lion. Unfortunately the chance in how apple manages email proved a showstopper and I am NOT prepared to upgrade my desktop to lion - yet - as I have key applications that would require additional upgrades and purchases I dont want to make yet. So - how do I get the upgrade (as yet unused) cancelled and refunded. In speaking with support it seems the downgrade options only apply AFTER the annual period has elapsed.

Why do I have to upgrade to OS10.7 if I have no need to access my files from across the world, can back up by wire to my iMac and would lose all my usable PowerPC applications if I upgrade to Intel-only ones? MobileMe was a pain for me, with re-duplication of Contacts, so I discontinued using it. So I am not happy to trust iCloud!

My iMac is too old to upgrade to Lion, so when I switch from MobileMe to iCloud, I understand that I will no longer be able to use my desktop mail app to retrieve mail, and my calendars and contacts will no longer be in sync with my iPad and iPhone. So when I switch over to iCoud, is there any work-around for this so that I can continue to use the desktop mail app on my iMac or otherwise get mail on my desktop, and keep my mail, calendars and contacts synced between my iMac, iPad and iPhone?

I've recently acquired an iMac and wanted to upgrade to Lion, however I believe I need to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard first - which could prove to end up costing a fortune! I've read recently that Apple are offering the upgrade to Snow Leopard free of charge for MobileMe users, however when I've followed a link to fill in a request form, this just takes me to the Find My Phone feature on iCloud.Â

My brother and parents have a Mac Mini each.
They have not the latest generation but the prior Intel generation -- that shipped with Leopard.
Being the family IT guy, last time I was in town I purchased the Snow Leopard retail DVD family pack upgrade and upgraded my parents machines to Snow Leopard. I couldn't upgrade my brother's mini because he had it away at school.
Now he is back at my parents house (as am I) and I was all set to upgrade his machine to Snow Leopard but I can't find the retail install disk I purchased.
However, I do have the Snow Leopard Mac Mini OSX install DVD that shipped with my recently purchased (latest generation) Mac Mini.
Question -- does anyone know if I could use this latest generation Snow Leopard Mac Mini system install DVD (the one that shipped with my mac Mini) to upgrade my brother's previous generation mac mini running Leopard to snow leopard.
Not looking to do a clean install but rather the upgrade.
Anyhow ever tried this? I obviously don't want to upgrade his previous generation machine with drivers, etc. for my latest generation --- rather JUST get his leopard upgraded to snow leopard.

I have mac mini (early 2009) running leopard and want to upgrade to snow leopard. I've bought a disk from a local store and when I try to install I get as far as 45 minutes to go when the installer reboots the computer and says it will continue to install after reboot. So it reboots kicks the disk out and reboots back into Leopard. The Apple site says it is probably a bad disk, so I got another one, still does the same. Apple also says it might be the dvd drive, I have no other issues with the drive, it installs the original leopard disks without problem, it reads video dvd's without problem, it verifies the snow disk as perfect.
