OS X V10.5 Leopard :: How To Deactivate Item Chooser
Feb 27, 2012
I was typing quickly, entered some unknown sequence, and activated the Item Chooser, which I didn't know existed. It's annoying and I don't want to have it activated. how to deactivate it?
I updated with snow leopard my old computer and now i want to use it on another computer instead. how do i deactivate it from an old computer to use it with another one? since you cant use it on multiple computers i need to get this done.
i have a mac pro with boot camp. when i hold option i get the normal screen that allows to chose between my mac disk and my windows disk. so when i choose windows i then go to another screen since i have both xp and vista on one hard drive.its a black screen with white fonts, 30 secs to choose to boot into vista or an earlier version of windows etc you can use the up and down arrow to select the os
I've uninstalled appdelete as I now use cleanapp. Anyway, I have uninstalled it but the contextual menu is still present. I have tried looking at the services and libraries but cannot locate the specific item needed to be deleted to remove the appdelete contextual menu item.
I have a few files, folders, and the Macintosh HD icons on my desktop. I want is to display the info for Macintosh HD only. Can this be done or is it all or nothing? I am using Snow Leopard currently.
I'm using Mac OS X 10.6. After copying some folders from external hard drive to PC these folders are now locked on Mac. There is no pencil in the Finder's lower left corner and there are no messages appear. I just simply can't open these folders.
I found that he installed an access in Keychain to my Time Capsule showing its password when he replaced my HD. When I try to delete it I am denied on my password. When I try to create a new Keychain my password is denied, so I cannot create a new Keychain and delete the old one— if that would work in this situation. I have some other issues with this dealer, an old one predating the Apple Stores. I don't like to go back to him to find out how I can get him out of my computer.
First, I need to say that, regarding my problem, I wasn't sure if I should post in this section or in the 'MacOSX' one, but like I'm facing this problem on my Mac Pro 4,1. So, I have a 8-core Mac Pro 4,1 with an Apple HD4870 to which are connected 2 screens: The main one is a Dell U2410 (1920x1200, via mDP to DP adapter) that I use under OSX for photography retouching with DxO. The other one is a 27'' (1920x1080, DVI) I only use for gaming under bootcamp.
When under bootcamp, I only need to turn off the Dell and the desktop is resized for only 1 display. My problem is that, under OsX, even when the 27'' is turned off, the desktop is extended to this display, I can't find a way to deactivate the 27''. I can't even set the displays as 'mirrors', as they have different heigts in pixels (1200 vs 1080), and then I get a Dell resized to 1080. The only solution I have right now is to disconnect the DVI cable of the 27'' when using the computer under OsX.
I have two annoying issues and hopefully one of you can help. i have looked around and cannot find an answer to my question, especially my second one (which i think is connected to the first one). I am using Safari 5.1.3 and OS X 10.7.3. One of the accounts works perfectly, the other has two issues:
1 - Safari will always start with the same set of old windows, even closing some of them and then reopening safari will always get us to the same old set of windows. I understand the (new) standard behavior is that if i open windows A, B and C and then quit Safari, at reopening it will open the same windows A, B, and C. If i now proceed to close window (or tab) C and then quit Safari at the next opening i shouldbe presented with A and B only. This is not the case for me, i am presented still with A, B, and C. I can add to the windows but not subtract. Clearly something is wrong here. Thoughts?
2 - Trying to debug problem 1 i decided to close all the winodws in Safari, then in System Preferences-General uncheck the "Restore windows when ..." and so i hoped that closing Safari and reopening would get me to just the homepage, but this was not the case and i was presented with the same old set of windows. This is easily explained by the fact that under system prefs-general the box i had unchecked was still checked. It lets me uncheck it but does not retain it.... I obviously tried rebooting to no avail.
How to deactivate Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac? I want to uninstall PSE 6 but the uninstaller tells me to deactivate PSE 6 first. However, there seems to be no option for deactivation in the applications installed with PSE 6 (i.e. PSE 6 for Mac itself, Bridge CS3, Stock Photos CS3, Adobe Help Viewer 1.1). I have tried to search the web and Adobe's knowledge base... with no luck. Search in PSE 6's internal Help returns one result for 'deactivate' - but it's something about editing pictures. There's no 'Deactivate...' under Help menu.
I am going to make a copy of my drive to an external disk, format my drive and then copy the copy back over (so I can install Windows on a partition), do I need to deactivate my adobe software in order to use it again once everything is done?
I've decided to remove Windows 7 from my iMac - the version installed is the 32 bit version, and I want to install the 64 bit instead as I've just upgrade to 8GB of ram (it's the 27 inch model). Do I just remove the partition via Boot Camp, or do I need to deactivate the serial number somewhere first?
I definitely need to get rid of "Faces" in iPhoto. I don't need it and it is making me crazy. It shows up when I am looking at my photos at places (like on the ground, sky, etc.) where there is simply no face. AND if there is a face I don't want to see any names or pop ups from "Faces" on my photos.
It seems Apple again know better what their customers want and decided for them to have this stupid feature! It makes me really sick!
In case there should be no solution to get rid or "faces" I will just use another software and forget iPhoto.

I have two macs in our home. My wireless mouse continues to sync with my other mac in a different room. how do I make it so that it only syncs with the one in front of the computer I'm using?
My Mac Pro doesn't boot when I have 16Gb of RAM memory installed. I want to know if is possible to deactivate slots memory in Mac OS X (Lion 10.7.4) because I will use only two slots with two 4Gb modules.
I think this post would fit in the Hardware/Notebook-section as well but since I am looking for a OSX workaround, I will post it here:
I have a problem with the sudden motion function in my PowerBook. When switched on, the SMS causes to switch off the internal hard-drive at random, even if the Laptop stands on a perfectly still and flat surface. This results in interruptions that make it impossible to work with the computer.
I already had this problem when I was running Panther (10.3.9), and deactivated the SMS with the "pmset"-command using the Terminal at the time. As long as I was running Panther, this workaround worked perfectly for me, I had no more hard-drive-interruptions.
Later, however, I made the Upgrade to Leopard (I skipped Tiger), making a clean install after formatting the PowerBooks hard-drive. Now the SMS was active again (and displayed "active" in the System Profiler) and the HD-interruptions were back.
So I tried to deactivate the SMS with the "pmset"-command - this time without result. I can set the value of "sms" to 0 and back to 1 all right - the Terminal shows the corresponding value when prompting "pmset -g".
Unfortunately this has no effect to either the hardware (the interruptions are still there) or the System Profiler (is displays "active" for the sms, regardless of the value that is shown when using "pmset -g"). I am aware that the variable was altered from "ams" to "sms" from Panther to Tiger (and subsequently Leopard), but neither "pmset -a ams 0" nor "pmset -a sms 0" would work.
To exclude the possibility of a real hard-drive-malfunction, I bootet the Powerbook from an external Firewire-Drive an with my an Panther-backup. After making some testing with accessing the internal HD (it worked fine), I looked into Panther's System Profiler and saw that the SMS was deactivated as expected.
I then experienced something strange - when rebooting Leopard, the sms-Status in the Profiler still was "inactive" and the PowerBook worked perfectly again. I was quite happy and made some updates. However, somehow the status was set to "active" again after some reboots, along with the malfunctions experienced before.
I wanted to find out, whether this "reactivation" had something to do with one of the updates (I brought the system up to 10.5.5 at the time) and booted the old Panther again. The sms was inactive again, again remainded inactive after reboot with Leopard.
I tried to reboot with and without power plug, I even made a PMU reset - the SMS remained inactive (which was good and made me hopeful again). However, after I switched of the Notebook and bootet again a few hours later, the sms-Setting in the Profiler was "active" and the Notebook was again not working properly.
Is there any possibility to access the sms-setting apart from "pmset" in the Terminal? Where does the system profiler derive the status from?
I want to deactivate the sms for good and at the moment this apparently works only in Panther (and I really don't want to downgrade to 10.3 again). I don't want to have it repaired since I think this would mean to replace the Logic Board which is a much too expensive investment for a 4.5-year-old Notebook.
If I close a session while mail was still open with a window of it open. When I open a session again it automatically open up with a window of mail. Is there anyway to deactivate that.
A few weeks ago I purchased a Seagate Momentus ST9500420ASG. How can I deactivate the integrated G-Force Sensor? I am using a MacBook Pro 15", Mid 2009 with Mac OS X 10.6
I really don't like the feature of gmail where it saves your sent messages into the inbox. Instead, I would like them restricted to the "Sent Mail" folder so I don't have to sift through my own messages I sent. Does anyone know how I can do this?
This is the only information I get... but opening any Office software I just can't read anyone of them. It looks like I've written with the sympathic Ink... maybe I should try to light my mac to see the writings? I can see pictures but not read the files.
As I wrote in another thread my Macbook has both the whining and the mooing, and it's really getting to me. I'm turning it back in, and hope to get a new, flawless one.
However, I've discovered another problem with my Macbook...one that I haven't read about anyone else having: my battery doesn't work.
There's an x over the battery indicator in the top right corner, and when I click on it it says "no batteries available". If I disconnect the charger it shuts down after a second or two.
I've tried to start it without the battery, and then turn it off and put the battery in it again. No change.
Considering that I'm turning it in it doesn't really matter, but I thought I'd throw this out there to let you know that the noise issues aren't the only problems with the Macbooks.
If anyone has any ideas about what I can do to fix it I'll be happy to try, seeing how I won't have time to take it back until saturday.
My bluetooth mouse ran out of battery and I was trying to do some keyboard only navigation. Somehow I turned on an option that places a totally annoying black box or rectangle around whatever item is active and has focus. This could be an icon in the finder or text in a warning box.
I tried to take a screenshot for clarity, but the act of taking the screenshot seems to move the box before the shot is taken.
Any idea how I can undo this?!? I'm thinking it's a Universal Access item, but I can't find any setting that changes it. I'm running Tiger with latest updates.
I put a lot of things in the trash which I didn't mean to. I have not emptied the trash. How can I restore them to exactly the folders they all came from? On Windows, there is an option "Restore" which does this.
I have one file deleted but when I try to empty, it says:
"The operation can't be completed because the item is in use."I have set all permissions of that file to Read & Write but still can't empty.I also tried to rename file, move to another folder etc, but without success.
