OS X :: Save Finder Window Position?
Mar 5, 2010No matter how many times I reposition the finder window, it always pops up on the bottom right corner. I always have to drag it back to the middle. Is there a way to save the position?

Applications :: Finder Window Resets Position To The Left When Dragging In A File?
Sep 12, 2010I am not sure how to 'title' my exact problem, so I'll explain it as best I can. I've also attached an Illustration of the problem which might explain it better.
I currently have the items in my folders displayed as 'columns'. When I open a new folder, the folders contents are displayed in the next column to the right. So after going a few folders in, the scroll bar on the bottom of the finder window is somewhat large. This is normal.
However the problem is, whenever I drag a document from my desktop into the most recently opened folder, finder resets the scrollbar to the position on the left side, forcing me to drag the window over again every time. This it a rather large annoyance, since the way I work I pull and replace lots of files from the same series of folders.
I just recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (finally), and ever since then I have noticed this strange issue with Finder. It did not happen in Tiger or Leopard.
Is this something that Snow Leopard now does by default now, or am I the only one experiencing this?
OS X :: ITunes Window Locked In Position?
Dec 10, 2008I've always had my iTunes window centered on my screen, until now that I realize that the iTunes window refuses to place itself anywhere on the screen except for in center! If I try to move it in any other position, it just pops back in place.

Mar 17, 2009Whenever I open the programs-section of the finder, the windows is always slightly positioned off-screen (about 1/3rd is out of the screen to the right). When I drag the window to a new (so I can see all) position, it always jumps back whenever I close and reopen the finder. Any fix for this?
Also, is there a way to get the icons to auto-arrange themselves like I can setup in Windows?
Applications :: Resetting ITunes Video Window Position
Mar 9, 2010Is there a way to reset the position of iTunes video windows? I usually use an external 23" monitor with my MBP and sometimes I move the video I'm watching on iTunes out of the MBP screen (on the external monitor). But, when I use the MBP without external monitor and I try to play iTunes video, the video is out of the screen, basically I can't see it and I can't find a way to move it into the screen (I can see it using expose').

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Open Finder Window And Finder Preferences Don't Stick
Apr 5, 2012Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

Nov 13, 2009I have pdf files I need to save, and the "save as" window drops down directly over the top of the page. Many times the pdf is scanned documents with titles, authors, and publication dates and journal names at the top of the first page. Therefore it is difficult (even though the drop down is opaque) to transcribe the article name into the save file as window, because that information is at the top of the page. I cannot scroll down in the document to have the information visible as it is typically page 1, and I cannot move the save as window over so I can see the file name I want to enter. I have to write the title down on a piece of paper then click save as then type the words in from the paper, even though the title I want to use is under the drop down.

Mar 17, 2007I was playing with the maximize button on a Finder window a few days ago and toggling it would yield a different size every time (guess I was amused by that). So it go into a state where the resize corner is out of reach always now. Clicking on the maximize button does not change the size at all and just remains there. Dec 29, 2010I opened the finder window (back when I could) and scrolled over on HD X infinity. I don't know why I did it. I guess just to see how many times it would fold over. Well I held down the arrow and it went hyperspeed.. made a loud buzzing noise then crashed. I shut off the computer and ever since then I cant open finder. Desktop or any folders that I search for through spotlight. What I would like to do would be to save all my files. Most importantly garageband files, pictures and video, itunes. I've tried to use a usb and external hardrive but I cant properly insert the files into the drive. And my cd drive doesn't work so I cant insert the install disk. I do have another ibook g4 and I've been hunting for ways to remedy the situation. My goal is to get everything back to normal and save my files.

Feb 27, 2009I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.6 (9G55) with Leopard. On a typical work day I'll open Finder to look for pdf files. I'll perform my search for pdf documents and, as expected, all pdf documents that exist on my Mac are listed in Finder. In the Finder dialog box there are headings at the top of the columns that include "Name", "Kind" and "Last Opened". When I single click on any one of the listed pdf documents, the path to that document's location is given at the bottom of the Finder window. Every month I save hundreds of different pdf documents in about 135 different customer file locations.
As a result, I need to be able to add a column heading that orients the results on a file location basis. On my former XP I could add many different headings, including one that simply stated "Filed In" (or something along those lines). By clicking on the heading "Filed In", all of the pdf documents would be grouped and listed by their file location. My question is: Can I add a "Filed In" heading to the search results window of Finder so that I can click on "Filed In" and group search results by the file locations?

Nov 2, 2009When I first got my macbook 2 months ago I could command+space and open the spotlight dialog box and type say "i" and it would start displaying ical, iweb, you know everything that starts with I. Like it should. Somewhere down the line things got funky. Now I command +space, open the box, type the letter of the application i want or whatever and nothing is displayed in the finder window. However when I move my cursor to the actual magnifying glass in the corner after I typed the search, and click it, it will show the results. Or if I type what I want to find and then command space again it will show it. So what did I do wrong? I want it back the way it way) Just having to command + space twice, once to open the search box and then one more time after i enter the search string, is getting annoying. Or having to click on the magnifying glass after entering the search.

I recall someone once saying open a window, press CTRL then close the window and the next window will appear in the same spot as the now closed window. That doesnt work, nor does pressing command or any other combination I have tried.
