IMac :: How Can I Set The Resolution Of Each Display Individually

Mar 29, 2010

Question: How can I set the resolution of each display individually? Details below:I have the new iMac 21" and an LG W2252 display from my old PC. I'm a newly converted mac user. I connected it to the imac and it worked. But the resolution is horrible. I can change the resolution when the displays are mirrored. But then when I uncheck mirror the resolution for each display cannot be changed individually. The LG goes out of range and won't show anything until I bring the resolution down and mirror the imac. Is this problem with the LG or the mac?

Software :: How To Just Reinstall IPhoto Individually

Mar 2, 2009

I'm an apple newbie. I accidentally deleted iphoto and safari. I easily downloaded safari again, but how do I download iphoto again. I already deleted the trash, so it's not there anymore. I assume I will be required to use my Mac OS X installation discs in order to reinstall my iphoto. However, how do just reinstall iphoto individually and not all the other applications which are still there? Also, will I be able to recover any lost photos?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Making Application Windows Individually Selectable?

Apr 30, 2012

Is there any way to set up Lion so that application windows are individually selectable, and do not trigger the display of all windows for a given application? As a default, when I am working with two word documents open and I select a Firefox window, then return to my primary Word document, the secondary word document appears and covers the Firefox window that I'm working with. I'd like to have the secondary word document stay behind the Firefox window until I need it. I know I could minimize the secondary word doc, but I have a tendancy to forget that minimized windows are open.

I'm working on combining a lot of information from different sources to make a class outline, and I'd love to be able to individually select an application window without triggering the other windows that are open for that application. Is there a way to make this happen in Lion or with a third-party program?

My daughter is planning to update her Leopard system to Snow Leopard.  She will buy the disc and proceed with the install.  Will she need to install each of the updates from 10.6 to 10.6.8 individually using software update?   Or can she simply use the combo updater?  I installed each when it appeared, so am unsure as to what to tell her about doing it all at once.

May 31, 2012

I've been pretty slack since moving over to my mac book pro but now I find my inbox with roughly 500 emails in it and 80% would be junk from various sites I'm signed up for. I now have flagged all of these address that are spaming me as junk however the only email that moves to the junk folder are the ones I'm individually tagging as junk, the older emails, from the same address remain behind. Is there a way to delete my entire inbox of these junk mails without going through each mail individually?

Hardware :: 500GB WD External Hard Drive - Backup Files Individually?

Jun 3, 2009

I've got a WD 500 GB external hard drive that has worked perfectly for about a year. I don't use time machine or any other backup software. I prefer to organize it myself and backup files individually.

Suddenly, today, it's freaking out at me. I've got several folders in it that I copy things too. One of them being Music. I was copying a few gigs of new music into that folder, but when it finished copying I couldn't access any of the other files.

It's like I'm stuck in the sub menu where I can just see the music I have on the drive and nothing else. The rest of the files are there somewhere because I only have about 50gbs of music and it says that 300gbs of space are being used, but I can't see them and i've tried a bunch of different things to get them to show up.

OS X :: Time Machine Minimum Size - 2x - Workaround?

Mar 11, 2009

I'm in the process of setting up a new backup system at home, and I'm feeling rather annoyed right now. The setup I wanted was thus: 1TB drive connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station with three partitions: One for my desktop boot drive Time Machine backup, one for my laptop boot drive Time Machine backup, and one for a server data backup.

Now, since these backups don't need to be "deep"--it's basically catastrophic failure insurance more than "Uh oh, I deleted that last year" insurance--I figured maybe 10% more than the volume size of each would be plenty, since they're also nowhere near full.......................

OS X :: Time Machine Backup Always Same Size And Really Slow?

Oct 26, 2009

I've recently re-jigged my system and upgraded to Snow Leopard. I've manually restored everything I want from a Time Machine back-up and am now back in business on my main drive. However, I now want to re-enable Time Machine but I'm having some problems; every time I back-up the total size is the same! I've excluded all the things I don't want, such as system-files, applications folder, developer folder, virtual machines folder, and a folder I use for large downloads (so they're not backing up at different stages). Every time though the total back-up size is calculated as the total data on my drive, minus the things I've excluded, and it crawls along at only a few kilobytes to a megabyte or so per-second!

For a volume with just under a terabyte of data that's an awful long time. This doesn't seem right though, as it means that my back-up volume is just going to full up after a couple of back-ups are taken, which is unacceptable. Anyone know what can be done about this? Both the internal and external volume are Journaled HFS+, my only though really is that the back-up drive already has Time Machine files on it, indeed the biggest portion of my files (about 850gb) is already on the drive in the exact-same folder structure as I'm using now, so those files shouldn't even need to be backed up!

MacBook :: Time Machine Backup (Size Keeps Growing)

Nov 30, 2009

I haven't backed up my macbook in a couple days since I've been out of town and did not have access to my external hard drive. A little while ago I plugged in the hard drive and told time machine to do a backup. The backup started at around 24GB, which I thought was weird because I didn't change that much. An hour or so later it is still climbing and is at 77.1GB. By the time I finish typing this it will probably be even larger. The weird thing is it says 77.1 of 77.1 but then both numbers just keep simultaneously growing. I'm using a Seagate Desk and bucking up and aluminum unibody macbook running 10.58.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Underestimating Backup Size?

Apr 25, 2012

Lately it seems that Time Machine has been underestimating the size of each backup. What it originally says to be a 10 MB backup turns out to be several GB. As it's backing up, Time Machine will say "X out of 10MB backed up" or something along those lines, but when X reaches 10MB, X continues to grow and so does the original estimate of 10MB. It might then say "13MB of 13MB backed up" and it will continue on this way until it has backed up so much underestimated data that Time Machine tells me it can't finish the backup because it doesn't have enough space on the backup drive. (Time Machine should've deleted some backups beforehand to make space for the new backup, but it didn't know to because it had underestimated the amount of space necessary for the backup.)

I have already wiped the backup drive and deleted all the Time Machine preference files, only to still face the same problem. I'm backing up my internal 1TB drive (only 300 GB used) and my 500GB external drive (400GB used) to another 1TB external drive, so having enough space on the backup drive shouldn't be the problem, right? BTW, I'm running Snow Leopard.

Hardware :: Time Capsule - Reported Disk Size In AirPort Utility

Feb 22, 2010

I bought a new 2TB Time Capsule, and had problems completing the initial backup. I finally sourced the problem to files that were buried deep in a stack of folders, which seemed to make the file name/path too long. Anyway before I realized that I tried to reformat the Time Machine, and this seemed to work ok. However Airport Utility is now reporting the Time Capsule Disk Size as being 1.8TB, rather than 2TB.

I think before I reformatted the disk it showed as being 2TB in this menu, but I cannot be sure. I am worried that I have somehow formatted it wrong and lost some data space? If I go into Disk Utility, it does say there that the Data partition is 2TB, so it seems strange that Airport Utility shows it at 1.8TB. Can someone else who has the 2TB Time Capsule let me know whether in Airport Utility it shows as being 2TB or 1.8TB?

Applications :: Time Machine Taking Much Space / Minimize The Size Of Backups?

Jul 20, 2010

I have my Mac on a TM backup on a 500gb HDD and its been backing up for about a month now. The maximum space is just about 500gb but time machine has brought it to 338gb with each backup taking 10-20gb. Is this normal? On my other Mac (an aluminum imac C2D), the backups take roughly 80gb of space and on my MBP im already up to 159gb worth of backups. Is there a way to minimize the size of backups?

Hardware :: Time Capsule Backup Size Smaller Than Disk File?

I have been using time capsule for only a few weeks and I have noticed that the file it has created "Elliot Newman's MacBook Pro_001b63936847.sparsebundle" only reads a file size of 95GB, when the disk I am backing up has 148GB used. Does this mean the backup doesn't contain all my files? I have to say it concerns me a little that the backup shows only a single file, is there anyway to see the files that time capsule has backed up? I am updating my MacBook soon with a bigger internal drive and I want to make sure all my files are backed up before I do this.
