I went into Get Info and changed my own admin setting in Sharing and Permissions to Write Only. So now when I click on my hard drive, I am told I don't have access! How do I revert to the original settings? I want to see my hard drive.
View 1 RepliesWhen I first got my iBook I accidentally changed a setting. I made it so a pop up comes up after each hour I am connected to the Internet. It asks me if I want to stay connected... this is getting REALLY annoying! If it pops up while I am typing, I accidentally disconnect myself...FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I can't find where I changed this setting!!!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI change my Energy Saver settings (Mavericks), but the changes do not remain. Once the display goes to sleep, the settings change back to other values (which aren't the same as the default settings). This happens even though I have the settings locked. Could some other utility be changing the settings? My Macbook Pro was imaged through my work - might they have set something up that can revert settings?
I've already tried trashing the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file and restarting - that didn't solve the problem.

I recently took my iMac into a Mac store to get a new hard drive because the old one bit the dust. When I got back home, I realized that the apple "genius" spelt my name wrong as the admin. I know its' not a big deal but this bugs me to death. So, I made a new admin with my correctly spelled name and deleted the mispelled name. Is this ok or is this going to jack up my computer?

The mac website said that this can happen after an upgrade and to fix it run the "reset password" utility from the install disc. I am using a school computer so I don't know where a mac os disk is. I am using OSX 10.5.8. I also don't know the root password.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I upgraded to Snow Leopard, somehow my permissions have become affected and now when I log in as administrator, I am blocked from accessing folders that the administrator should be able to access. I think that my Administrator account details got deleted or changed to 'unknown' during the upgrade when I had to wipe my whole computer to load the new software. I now get the message: 'The folder “CrashReporter” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.' I can then go into 'Get Info' to change the permissions by adding my admin account (which is not there for some reason) and specifying 'read and write' and then it works fine. However, I have to do this individually for each and every folder and subfolder to make the files work properly. Is there a way of having the computer change all the access permissions to accept my admin name and password again? (So I don't have to change the permissions one at a time on each folder?)

I changed the admin on my Mac Pro and i used the iCloud password part except instead of using the right username i used the wrong one now I'm locked out of being an admin on my own computer.

The problem is, I never had Root enabled and I also do not have Netinfo manager on my computer. The login screen only shows my account... no Guest or anything else. I keep going in circles as everything comes down to having to type in an admin name and password, but there are no admin accounts on the computer. I've been working on this for hours now and I'm about to just set up a new HD and transfer my files, but I'd like to figure this out before surrendering to that.

I thought it was created by default using the user's login password and was unlocked when they logged in. I'm working (long distance) with a friend who's having Keychain problems and can't seem to work this one out. He's got an iMac running 10.4.11. He recently changed his admin password (I don't know why) and Keychain stopped working. Easy enough, run Keychain First Aid. He says that this reports no problems, but the only keychains he has are 'system', 'microsoft_intermediate_certificates', and 'x509 anchors'. This is where I get lost.

I changed my short name and rebooted, and when I logged back in, all of my preferences and settings were gone. I have found my old library, which I'm assuming has all of my settings (it has all of the files from my old user account), but don't know how to transfer that to the new account name.
Safari seems to have changed and I don't know how to get back to default preferences. Suddenly, it is wiping (visual) open, rather than opening the way every other application does with the last site visited, even though preferences are set to open with homepage. The top apple bar with the apple on the left and my name on the right hides when safari is open

I am on a Mac G4 and just installed 10.5.8. I the System Preferences I selected Display and changed the display from 60 hz to 24. Now I get no display. Is there a way to revert back, or access the terminal to change the monitor back so it displays? I know I could reload but that takes a couple of hours.

I am connected to the internet via a belkin N+ router..... this is in turn connected to an adsl modem...I am having no problems with the signal to the router but at least four times a day my internet disappears....
When I run Network Diagnostics hey presto, your internet is working fine....The only things I have changed recently was that as I am running osx 10.4.11 I was having that issue where you couldn't access Network in sys pref, it kept saying "your settings have been changed by another application", I found a solution on here whereby you delete the plist prefs and rebuild them... That worked a charm but now I'm wondering is this connected in some way....

I got software from the makers of the belkin N+ wireless usb dongle chip that came with my router (belkin don't provide osx support but said that I could get a utility from the chip makers) I installed this but it never worked so uninstalled it, and ran disk utility and safe boot and pram and fsck (everything I could think of)
I only have one location in network, and airport is the only active network port
any ideas...????

I'm getting a message every time I open Network in System Preferences saying "Your network settings have been changed by another application". I click OK, and the box goes away and immediately comes back. It means I cannot use the Network part of System Preferences at all, because this message is caught in some kind of loop, and won't go away.

Once i installed the latest safari update and the computer restarted, my date settings were changed to December 31, 2000. Also, random programs popped up, asking if i should allow or deny them. As well, i was disconnected from the internet. I'm not quite sure what has caused this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a pre-owned macbook off of ebay. This is my second mac, so I'm somewhat familiar with them. Here's my problem: When I first booted it up, it never took me through the whole "new owner registration" screen that you would see on a brand new macbook, it just went straight to the desktop. I went in and changed the Admin name and info etc manually, but when the computer is shut down and booted back up, it has my name listed on the login screen, but that little tiny title above it that says "(Owner)'s Mac" still says the old owners name! Furthermore, when i access mac programs such as Front row, it still says his name also.
So my question is, where do I go to change this? Do I need to go through the whole new owner registration screen manually, and if so, will I lose all of my work that's stored on my HD?
My girlfriend changed the user's name and the problems started (iMac wouldn't remeber system settings and denied access to some files and catalogs). When I wanted to fix the problem I probably made a mistake and changed the access settings of some files (finally even hard disk's settings). After this action my iMac doesn't start (the screen is white with the apple logo and nothing happens). Is there anybody who knows what to do now?

My neighbor has an IMac with OS 10.4.11 installed. When I open System Preferences and select the Network icon, the Network window comes up but it is overlayed with a message that states: "Your network settings have been changed by another application." When I click OK, this same overlaid window comes back.
The only way I can get out of System Preferences at this point is to do a Force Quit. In other words, because this overlaid window appears, I am unable to access the Network window to look at TCP/IP settings, make changes, etc.
Next I went into System/Library/Preference Panes/Network.prefPane(more info) to look at the application that appeared in the "Open with" field. It stated "System Preference." I replaced this with a new "System Preferences from the Applications Folder, but the same thing happened - even after I rebooted the computer.
Please let me know how to solve this problem so I can access the Network System Preferences properly.
