OS X :: Resetting The SMC Actually Do Anything?
Dec 14, 2009I've worked on a lot of macbook and this proposed solution has never once helped me.
View 2 RepliesI've worked on a lot of macbook and this proposed solution has never once helped me.
View 2 Replies recently had a small USB issue, so I reset my PRAM which fixed it.Now every time I boot the PRAM will reset itself. This particularly annoying because:1) It takes longer to boot as it restarts again and again (sometimes 3-4 times).2) I have the boot volume set to 0 and when the PRAM is reset it will go back to default which isn't fun [and it loud].
3) I have verbose mode on and a PRAM reset removes that as well, so I need to do the 2-finger combo [which on the bluetooth keyboard doesn't work half the time].I can't seem to fix it. I've done all the usual things (ie: manual PRAM reset with 4-finger combo, SMC reset, reseating hardware, disconnection hardware) and I've also gone ahead and installed OS X on a new volume for testing. Nothing is working and this getting a little frustrating.I try not to restart my computer, but recently I've needed to it a couple times. Apple Support doesn't know what to do and they're reluctant to send a on-site tech because they're not sure what the issue is. They want me to take my computer to the Apple Store, but (1) I don't have a car, (2) it's windy and snowing like crazy outside so there is no way I'm walking a mile to the Apple Store carrying the Mac Pro by hand, and (3) even if it was sunny outside my computer weighs a lot.Anyone know what's going on here? The computer passes all hardware tests and disk scans reveal no bad sectors.
I just got a MacBook Pro 13 inch is three weeks ago and now it keeps resetting by itself I was wondering why? And how can I make it stop?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a MacBook for about a year now and a few weeks ago I started having problems with videos from online (ex. YouTube). They would start loading and stop, on and off. It would load about 2-3 seconds of video every few minutes. So I reset safari and everything, that didn't help. Anyway, I got a MacBook pro last week, and I transferred everything from my MacBook to the MacBook pro via ethernet cable. I am not experiencing this problem on the MacBook pro since the transfer. I reset safari again, no help. Have had friends use their computers on my wifi network, they all work fine. My speeds are over 10mbps. So my question, I don't want to erase all of my data, as I have no means to backup my iTunes library which is huge and all my documents and such. Is there a way to go back to factory settings though? Like should I reinstall the OS without erasing my data?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI set my fn key to display all windows (same as F3 default). I would like to remove this, but it doesn't show up on the system preferences shortcut list. Pressing "Restore Defaults" does nothing to alleviate the problem. Is there a way that I could reset all of my default shortcuts through terminal or something more powerful than system preferences?
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I restart my iMac, my desktop wallpaper reverts back to the default and my mouse configuration is reset so the buttons no longer do what I demand of them (Button4: Expose, I say!)
It seems to be just those two issues but it happens pretty much every time the system shuts down (although not every single time). Energy saving is fine. My dock is fine. Nothing else seems to be touched.
I've reset the PRAM. I've deleted the system preferences file from the library (com.apple.systempreferences...). I've repaired permissions.
I still have this problem.
Any ideas or solutions, aside from reinstalling OS X or not restarting my iMac ever?
I should mention that I'm running 10.5.5 on an Aluminum 2.0 Core 2 Duo Intel iMac. My system is all-natural. No fancy hacks or system modification programs installed here.
I set my iTunes library and iPhoto library to see them on my Time Capsule, i point Apple TV to iTunes, and there are no files. As its been reset to Macintosh HD, where nothing is stored.

The problem is we all have passwords for all the accounts, but none of us remember them. (it is at ease 2.0)
Does anyone know how to reset the password? Or any other ideas how I can get into the computer?
I purchased a used 1.42 GHz G4 Mac Mini, with OS X 10.4 installed. It came with the system disks. My problem seems to be with the password and user name when trying to download software.
Is there a way to reset the user name and password?
give very specific directions, as I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to Macs.
I was given a G3iMac OSX, but the only problem is that the person who put in the password has passed on. I was given a few to try, but no luck.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSadly I have a feeling I will be here asking for help for most of the week (if not month) as I run into problems.
Everytime I reboot my system, my volume is set to the max. I can lower it without issue, and if I log out and back in, the volume stays the same. It only happens when I reboot. Anyone know why this is happening and/or how I would go around fixing the issue?
Edit: I think the issues I am running into are caused by bad permissions on most of the com.apple.* files. Will the file be recreated with the correct permissions if I move/delete the files? If not, what should the permissions be so I can manually change them back.
Before I forget, yes I have been repairing permissions, but not all the files are being fixed.
My safari is full of pop ups and ads- if i reset my laptop to factory settings will this be removed?

I've read a bit about it online, some seem to think that deleting the Razer driver would work, but it hasn't for me. Any ideas on why the settings keep getting changed back to default?
