i have a macbook pro , the harddisk is 250g ,i install two operating system, windows xp and leopard, the xp partition is 150g, leopard partition is 100g, i want to resize the partition , change leopard partition to 200g, xp partition 50g, how to do it? recommend a free software.
View 3 RepliesI changed my partition size firstly from (full disk size) about 160GB to 80GBs in order to create a new one which was another 80GBs after that I decided to just leave this 160GB and one partition, so I did what I decided, but now there is a problem. I did everything under Installation CD and than it shows in Disk Tool that the partition is 160GB on diagrams but under it it shows: total size 80GB... and the same is when I launching Snow Leopard. I'm clicking Macintosh HD and informations than it shows total size: 80GB, I tried to change again partition sizes but it does nothing, I cannot do anything under Mac OS and bootable installation disc. I'm completely stuck it shows, always and always that "Spliting in to partitions finished due an error - could not modficate partition's map".

I put an mp3 or wav file at the login items on the system preferences accounts, but wont work, cuz everytime i started my mac, yes i heard the sound but it also open itunes, and i dont want that, i just want a simple fast sound.

I have been trying to send som JPEG files to a client. These files are no more than 450 kb. They were made in Adobe Illustrator CS5. The file sizes on my Mac are below 450 kb, yet when I attach them to an e-mail the size plummets to 31.3 kb, making them totally unusable for my client. I do not see any setting in Mail that would affect the file size of an attachment. I've attached files before with no problem. I do not know if this is because it's a JPEG. Unfortunately JPEG is the file format that they need. So to get arounfd this I've uploaded them to my server... but it would be so much easier to just be able to attach them to an e-mail.Â

I only plan on installing a antivirus software and thats about it, maybe 1 program.
I am already aware that Snow Leopard reports hard drive sizes in base 10 and not base 2.
I'm not here to argue about proper use of SI unit prefixes, the HD manufacturer marketing cabal that reports base 10 and not base 2 sizes on the box or the merits of gibibytes vs gigabytes or GiB vs GB.
I'm just asking for a way to change the size reporting back to base 2.
I haven't yet found a way to change it back here in the forums or on Google and only a few others have asked in other threads.
I figured that making a new thread would be helpful for people who just want a solution instead of arguing about base 10 vs base 2 and having to dig through other threads full of that.
I have just recently deleted my Bootcamp partition in Disk Utilities, and now im trying to increase the partition size of my Macintosh HD drive. When i go to the partition map and try to increase the size. The same error always appears. "Could not modify partition map because filesystem verification failed" I have attached an Image of what my partition map looks like right now.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Snow Leopard, the volume icon for my Windows XP Bootcamp partition has changed back to the default Hard Disk icon. As it is formatted NTFS, I am unable to change the icon within OS X. I used to change it by applying the desired icon to a memory stick, then within Windows, copy the hidden icon files from the memory stick on the base directory of the 'C:' Drive.
When in Leopard, it would recognise the icon that I had applied to it - but ever since I installed Snow Leopard, this trick no longer works and I cannot find a way to change it (other than to change my Bootcamp partition to FAT32, so I can apply an Icon within OS X - but this means reformatting and is slightly OTT for just an icon ) This occurs both after doing a Upgrade install on my MacBook Pro, and a clean install on my iMac, both with already existing Bootcamp partitions. I might try by making a new Bootcamp partition now Snow Leopard is installed, but I don't see how that would be any different to the ones I currently have.
i'm trying to get the file size displayed in the finder.i can right click on an individual file to 'get info' and find the size, but can the size be displayed routinely in the finder? i tried to 'view options' but 'size' and 'calculate size' are greyed out and cannot be checked.

I heard from multiple Youtube videos and walkthroughs that said that Windows took 4gb, so I made a 24gb partition. After installation, I go to "Computer" (c: drive), and it says 9gbs free of 24gbs.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi have made a recovery FireWire hard drive. i have 3 partitions, two 30gbs both to boot leopard and tiger, and one 15gb that i was going to use for time machine but i decided that i want to make that leopard and tiger installs. anyways disk utility keeps telling me that the hard drive must be formatted in HFS+ with journaling enabled to support resizing. the entire drive is formatted that way! i would really love not to have to repartition the entire drive, as i have both leopard and tiger already installed.

View 21 Replies View RelatedI'm prepping to install Vista over XP (my friend says I'm downgrading, which I probably am). As I noted in an earlier post, I need to give more space to my Windows partition. Does this sequence look OK to you guys?
1. Boot from Mac OS X Install DVD. Check "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME" for errors; fix if needed.
2. Defragment "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME".
3. Use GParted or iPartition (on LiveCDs) to see how much space is left between the two partitions.
4. Boot in to Mac OS X on "Macintosh HD". Use diskutil to shrink "Macintosh HD".
5. Boot from GParted LiveCD. Use GParted to move and expand "NO NAME", remembering the buffer between partitions as determined in step 3.
6. Boot from Mac OS X Install DVD. Check "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME" for errors; fix if needed.
7. Install Vista and pray I don't run out of space...
I recently used boot camp to install windows on my intel iMac. It all worked great, but now I'd like to give it more hard drive space on it's partition. Is there any way to change the partition size without having to erase the partition and start over?

I do not want to sacrifice half of the disk space for windows, how am I going to deal with this problem as it only allows me to choose between 32Gb and divide equally? I am preparing to install Windows 7 so I can utilize a few of my old Windows program. The Windows programs will, most probably, be limited to Micorsoft Office Outlook, ActiveSync, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premier Elements. What would be a recommended, or optimal, Windows partition size to accommodate the mentioned programs and still give me some "spare" space if I decide to add a couple of more Windows programs to the list.

While looking at what to move onto the new smaller SSD I noted that VM Ware had my virtual machine partitioned to 20 G. The settings in VM Ware however wouldn't let me shrink it to a smaller size. It said that 20 G was a minimum. I'm only actually using about 10G and would like to free up some more space on the smaller SSD. Does anyone know how I might do this if it is even possible?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac mini with a 55 G internal hard drive with a 750 G One Touch Maxtor drive (actually just 698 G) attached via firewire. Later this month I'll be upgrading from Tiger to Leopard, and I'm assuming a clean install makes most sense. I'd like to partition the Maxtor drive to provide general storage as well as Time Machine backups. Although it's not vitally important, I could envision having a partition to handle Windows. Should I create three partitions: one for approx 55 G to handle the current contents of my internal drive for the upgrade; one for approx ?? G to handle potential Windows; and the remaining space to handle Time Machine.
- How large should a Windows partition be? There are some apps that would be useful to have, but highly unlikely it will be an important part of my routine. Should I be stingy? Can I get a Windows install in about 10 G? 20 G?
- Can I partition the Maxtor while it has data? Currently there is about 25 G of files. Many are expendable.
- Disk Utility seems to default to PPC settings, though the mini has an Intel processor. I'll want a GUID Partition Table for at least one partition, correct?
- Does it make sense to install Leopard on an external partition in case the internal drive ever fails? Or is that a waste of space for now? (One assumes I'd be able to rescue the machine via the install disks.)
- I suppose everyone's experience with Time Machine is different based on how they use their computers, but is there a rough guideline on how much space to devote to Time Machine?
