OS X :: Mail.app - Can I Delete The Trash And Junk Items Without Being Asked Again
Oct 19, 2009
I empty my trash bin and junk mail bin sometimes several times a day.I usually review the junk mail folder and after that just empty the junk and than the trash bin.Is there a way, to disable the the pop up menu, asking me again, whether I am fine to erase the messages?
I have much of the junk emails that come to me auto set to go to the Trash folder through Junk Filter settings. However, when I do a Command>A, to choose all the email in the Trash folder, and then click on Delete, the junk emails I never opened don't delete until I do it again or click on each one and then click Delete. All the other emails I moved there manually will disappear using the Command>A and Delete, just not those that went there by filter rules I set up.

How do you delete individual items from Trash without emptying entire Trash? If I highlight one item in Trash, the only option is the Empty button. I'm afraid it will empty the whole thing. I don't want to do that.
I've been organizing some files on my external hard drive and after I had all the files where I wanted, I had to delete all the individual folders that they were in. They are all aliases which is really weird and I have no idea what happened. When I try to empty trash nothing happens, no pop up or anything tell me what's wrong. When I tried to secure empty trash I get this
We've noticed that we no longer have Junk or Trash mailboxes located in the sidebar. How do we get these to show up in Mail - and will the messages still be there?Â
I need some guidance getting the items I have on my computer permanently deleted from the trash. When I go to delete them I get the following message below and I can't delete anything. What do I need to do?

I am having real difficulty deleting files on my macbook pro. Although there definitely aren't over 8000 files in my trash everytime I try to delete it seems to think there is... Any idea of how to rectify this?
I downloaded font files and tried to delete them. I tried to empty trash but the items still appear. I tried holding down the optioin key while emptying the trash and the items are still there. How can I empty the trash bin?
Used MacKeeper to identify duplicates which I have passed to Trash only to find that in many instances ALL of those files have passed to trash. I need to retrieve the originals. SO I want to know if I can select the items I want to permanently delete from Trash without losing the ones I want to keep.
I cannot delete email the "normal" way. When I set up my POP account, it created a second trash folder with the same name as my mail account. There are thus two folders in my Trash can - "On My Mac" and the one named after my email account. When I try to delete any mail it says that I cannot move anything to the Trash folder for my Mail account. I have to DRAG all email I wish to delete to the "On My Mac" Trash folder? I just want to be able to click delete and have email go away! Why is this not working?
Am having several glitches with mail. I move emails from either inbox or sent to the trash and they return back where I moved them from. Trash does not always empty and I have to restart the computer to get the trash to empty.

I have an item in my junk mail which I cannot delete. I just get a spinning colored circle and must resort to force quit my mail to continue. How do I delete this problematic junk email
I have a Mac OS X 10.6.1 I have been having trouble with my MAC Junk mailbox. For a while it worked very well and I was able to review junk mail. All of a sudden, I am receiving no junk entries in my junk mail box. Preferences: Enable junk mail filtering, When junk arrives, move it to the junk mailbox, sender of message is in my my address book, sender of message is in my previous recipients, filter junk mail before applying my rules. What must I do to SEE received junk mail back in my junk mailbox?
junk mail has been showing up in my mail box and not going to junk mail folder. Also some mail from known senders has been appearing in Junk Mail folder.I think that I have Preferences set up properly.
I want mail to filter junk (including previous emails) and automatically place it in the junk folder. Currently, all it is doing is marking mail as junk within the inbox, and no junk emails are showing up in the junk folder. I tried unchecking and rechecking filtering for junk, resetting (in preferences), and re-downloading all emails. I have the box marked for move it to junk box, but the emails only show up as spam w/i the inbox.
when i try to delete items from my trash bin i get the following message even when i hold down the option key (upon which the eye symbol turns into a play button) and try to empty the trash like it instructs me to do it gives me the same error message.
I've tried everything to empty my mail trash to no avail. Mac OS X 10.9.4..When I delete my emails they won't appear in the trash, and they re-appear in my in box...The couple of emails already in the trash since this problem started will not delete using "Erase Deleted Items"
I have several email accounts that come to my mac.  When junk appears I hit the junk button.  Does it take awhile to train the junk or is there a way to set up mail so that it automatically goes to junk and does not appear at all in my inbox?Â
On new MBP, i keep getting asked for password to delete files, but not to empty the trash. Checked permission and all looks okay. Permission on .Trash is mine not anyone else.Â
I'm in Mail and my trash has about 80 deleted messages. I cannot figure out how to do a mass delete. Please don't tell me this has to be done one delete at a time. I've tried a few key strokes and mouse/key combinations, but obviously not the right ones. Now, this is not in MAILBOXES, where a right click and Erase Deleted Items does the job. This is under my 'GMAIL' box, which is linked to MAIL. I can right click--erase deleted items there until I am blue in the face to no avail.
I have a MacBook with Yosemite. No matter what I set in mail preferences, my trash is only saved for seven days. I can set it to a month or never but it always deletes after seven days. Is there a conflict with the settings for my Mail when I use iCloud on the web?I've got that set for a month. For some reason it doesn't have the same choices as Mac mail.

I don't know which folder to use clearing out old messages, spam, junk and other detrious I might want to recover in the future and which folder for highly sensitive or personal in formation I want to keep confidential.
Today, I am not able to delete messages, I get this; The message "message name here" could not be moved to the mailbox "Trash On My Mac" The operation couldn't be completed. File exists.
