I've had this issue for ages now and not got to the bottom of it, having a boring sunday so going to try and get windows working to play a few games. Anyway the problem is when i try to install windows it gets stuck on the screen which says 'setup is starting windows'
when i restart my mac it doesn't restart it powers down etc but the hard drive just keeps spinning and it never reboots i have to force it.
I'm trying to update my Macbook Pro to the new 10.7.4 I have downloaded the update twice (no interruptions during download) and when i click to restart the computer to install the update, the update dosent install. I keep getting an error message saying the download is corrupted, when the update tries to unpack to install. Â

This is a problem I've noticed on two Macs I currently own. First I had my 20" iMac with Vista installed, and currently I have a 24" iMac with XP installed. In both cases, when I'm in Windows and need to restart (for whatever reason) and want to go back into Windows instead of OS X, the Option key does not function correctly to bring up the OS select screen, and instead will go straight to OS X, as that is the default OS I have set up to boot into.
So basically, if I restart from OS X, the Option key works fine and I can choose to go into Windows, but restart from Windows and I have no choice in the matter, it makes me go into OS X. Any idea why?
My first thought is that it has to do with the fact that I'm using Apple's bluetooth keyboard (and mouse), but once the computer has actually restarted, why would it matter? Does the computer remember the BIOS from Windows when it restarts, and therefore fails to recognize my bluetooth? For the record I have to turn my keyboard off then on again when entering windows to get it to be recognized and work, but not the mouse, which works fine.
When I boot up in Windows 7 I have always restarted from OS X and held the alt key during startup. But isn't it possible somewhere in OS X to select 'restart in bootcamp partition' or something?

It is honestly a pain to restart and hold down the Option key then choose windows. From the windows environment, there is a short to "restart into osx", is there something like that in the osx environment? I'd like to be able to choose a "restart into windows" and walk away.

This especially considering my osx startup is on an intel gen 2 ssd, and the win 7 startup is on a seperate gen 2 ssd... shouldn't it be 30 seconds or so?
The only way can restart my Intel iMac27" desktop is to reach around at the back bottom left of the computer and hold the button down for about 6 seconds, If I don[t I just get the spinning wheel. After I restart manyally I get the gray apple logo and the same spinning wheel - and then it startsup fine. Reinstalled software several times.Â

My iMac becomes totally unresponsive after sleeping for any length of time. It will not wake from sleep, even if I connect a wired keyboard; and it will not shut down or restart until I reset the SMC by unplugging the comptuer from power for 15-30 seconds. I can restart the computer after resetting the SMC, but the same thing happens every time the computer goes to sleep.Â
I have also set the computer sleep slider to "never" and reset the PRAM. Although people have been complaining about this issue for months, Apple's Lion updates have not addressed this issue.Â

I have bootcamp running windows XP on my mac pro.
Apple have made a simple button in Windows to 'restart in Mac OS X'. This is great and really fast to do. But for some reason, they forgot to do this in in OS X.
When I'm in OS X, if I want to restart into windows the , I have to do either of the following:
a.) Click the apple icon, click 'restart', click confirm 'restart', wait for the mac to shut down, wait around holding down the option key to bring up a startup disk menu, then when it appears, click the arrow below Windows.
b.) Click on 'system preferences' in the dock, then click on 'start up disk', then click on 'windows', then click on 'restart...', then confirm 'restart'.
I want a simple one-click 'restart in windows' button that I can click in OS X, just like the one-click 'restart in mac os x' button in windows.
No, I'm not interested in using VMware. I have it and use it in conjunction with everything else. Just a simple 'restart in Windows' button will do the trick.

Yes, I have tried using the automator to record an action, but apparently it insists on showing the mouse playing it all back... and all you can do is speed it up x 10, you can't turn the 'show mouse movements' option off, nor can you just make the automator workflow into a one-click button, since I can find no way to select 'automator runner' as the default application to run the workflow, and placing the workflow in the dock just opens it in the automator, so then you have to click 'play'. Just quite messy and unprofessional in front of clients. So, again, a simple one-click button in the dock will do the trick.
Hopely I have caught out most who will try to put this thread off course.
I'm amazed apple didn't think of this simple thing before- I suppose I shouldn't get surprised any more.
when I go to a YouTube video, it will just be a big black rectangle (see pics) with no slider or anything, and nothing happens when I mouse over it. This happens to all videos on websites (see the BestSkinsEver, there's supposed to be the Gizmodo iP4 leak where there's just a big white space). I was curious to see if this happens to flash games too, which it does. All the pages were fully loaded when I took a screenshot.

Anyway, i downloaded BootCamp, installed it, and then Windows XP. After this I was told to insert my OSX disc to get the drivers. Well nothing happened at all. I suppose because this install of Leopard didn't include BC, it was a seperate download.I then read that BC Assistant should give me the option to burn a drivers disc. I looked at the provided screenshots, and right where the button should have been, there was nothing.

If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Since this was my boot HD, I took out my Installation DVD, put it into the running system and started the installation file then selected that I wanted to reboot and start utilities. The system then rebooted, the "chime" came, and then, silence, gray screen with apple logo, nothing is happening. What do I need to do, to get further and repair my hard disk?

after some trouble with Windows 7, I decided to reinstall the hole thing.
- I installed Windows 7 RC 64bit on a empty WD harddrive with the selected AHCI drivers.
- After installing, I updated Windows 7. No trouble after restarting.
- After installing the Bootcamp 3.0 (selected Bootcamp64.exe) my system isn't working fine anymore. I got Bluescreen after 1-2 Minutes Windows running on my monitor with the installed 285 GTX, the installed GT120 in slot two seems to run fine and no blue screen on the other screen.
Basically, I installed Leopard on a Macbook Pro that I'd just given a new HD. What I didn't realize was that there was also an issue with the thermal grease (or excessive thermal grease as it turned out) so when I installed Leopard after replacing the HD, the thing got so hot that even though it successfully installed the OS, when I tried to restart it I couldn't. Since I was borrowing the DVD I gave it back and since I've replaced the thermal grease thereby fixing the overheating issue.
When I start up the Macbook Pro now, I get the Welcome screen movie with all the languages floating past in space, but then I get a blank black screen with a mouse pointer that ends up taking me nowhere. In Windows, you normally should keep the DVD in the drive after installing from DOS since the installation program still needs more information from it. Is this the case with Leopard? Should I ask for the DVD back again?

A friend of mine somehow ruined his iMac's operating system (tiger) and tried to fresh format his hardrive. He told me that every time he would attempt to install, it would say "install failed" and he would have to restart. I couldn't imagine what he was doing wrong, so I attempted to install tiger on his iMac. OSX failed to install with "erase and install" so I ran disk utility and attempted repair with "failure to unmount".
I also tried erase via disk utility using various formating (journaled etc.). How would I be able to install tiger without error? I am not exactly sure why the installer fails, I am assuming it is something on the hard drive that is preventing install. I don't think it's the disk because the installation disk check proceeded and gave no errors.

I have had problems with my macbook grey screening and having to shut down by holding down the power button (I get the screen with the instructions how to reboot in 5 different languages). When I start it up again I get the panic report from the shut down.In Utilities, Disk Utility I ran the Repair Disk and received the message that the disk was damaged and I had to do the reapir from the install disk.Â
So I put the install disk in (came with the laptop, 10.6) and I tried to repair the disk using the disk utility from the install disk. Two problems: when I insert the disk, restart while holding down the 'C' key, nothing happens (stays at the grey screen) until I let go of the 'C' key and then I get another Panic and have to reboot manually. So I tried inserting the install disk with the laptop already on and clicking on the disk to hopefully get to the disk utility or at least reinstall the OS, which leads to problem two: I receive the message 'Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer.'Â My laptop is currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

When I try to install bootcamp services it states "to install bootcamp services you need to running Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista"
I then downloaded bootcamp services 3.1 from here:

It clearly states Windows 7 support, and is for X64.
Yet when I run it, it gives the same error stating I need to using Windows Vista or XP SP2.

I have installed Far Cry on bootcamp (Windows 7), I run Far Cry, it works perfectly except the mouse doesn't work in game, only works when your on the menu.. Keyboard works fine though

I paired using Windows help assistant or whatever but still cant use it. Do you guys have any same problems? What do you guys do? Is there any Apple Software update for this problem? View 5 Replies View RelatedMy G5 OSX 10.4 on restart displayed the date&time error message (attached). And yes it was causing my applications to run erratically, such as not loading. After updating the time both manually or automatically, on restart time would revert to 1970 with the error message re-appearing. I erased my hard drive tried to install OSX 10.5.1 1st attempt it was unable to locate my hard drive for install location, it simply paused. 2nd attempt it located drive, but during install white page full of errors appeared. 3rd attempt it appeared to install fine. But again on restart the date time error message appeared, time set to 1970. Updating time didn't help. I upgraded OSX 10.5.1, during install it displayed an Update OSX error message (attached). After this error message I restarted but I can't get past the grey loading screen. If it helps here's what im running:

i can't seem to update my macbook with any of its updates. I try to install and restart the ones that need to restart, but it doesn't even move a inch when restarting. I've left it for like a day complete to see if the restart would move in the bar, but it just stays in the beginning.

I installed a new 500 GB HD on my 13-inch mid 2010 Macbook Pro (since the original crashed). I successfully connected to the Disk Utility via the internet connection and started recovery from a recent Time Machine backup....but, the computer will not restart. It's been stuck in the grey screen with the Apple logo and rotating status bar all night. I shut it down and restarted, but it won't go past the grey screen state. I can't find any answers on the Support Page. Should I have first installed the Lion OS X first and then restored from the Time Machine backup? Â
Also, wondering if all my programs (2011 ILife & IWork and Microsoft Office) will be reinstalled with the back up? (I can't find my installation disks for ILife and IWork :-()

I've used Boot Camp to create a 32GB partition and install Windows XP (SP2 home edition) on my alu iMac (2.66 Ghz, 4GB RAM).
I used the FAT format to allow transfer of files between the Mac partition and the Windows one.
After booting Windows, I put in my original Leopard install DVD as directed, and the Boot Camp installer automatically came up.
