In mac we have option to delete items securely from trash, while deleting it warns that: once deleted items will not be recovered. I want to know that is there any way by which items deleted "normally, (not securely)" from "Trash" can be recovered?
View 6 RepliesOn a fresh boot of my G5 Power Mac (latest version late 2005, 2GHz), there are usually several fonts in the trash in a folder named Recovered Items. All of the fonts are fonts I have disabled using Font Book, some are normal fonts and some are system fonts that throw up a message to the effect of "Are you sure you want to disable this font?...." when disabling them with Font Book. In this case they are always fonts I will never use, Korean, Chinese or Arabic etc. Is this something to be concerned about? I have noticed no problems running the system or in any software, so I just empty the trash and get on with my work.

I just woke up and noticed that I have a Recovered File in my trash can. It has a "Temp File AAA", ProJlib, Imllib, something else, and another folder containing some quicktime stuff and a bunch of other things. I am not sure what it is as it wasn't there when I went to sleep a few hours ago. I clicked get info and all the stuff says it says last activity was on oct 28 at 5:27 pm. Is this from the daily scripts the mac runs around 3 in the am? I secure emptied the trash already too. Also, Onyx says my weekly and daily scripts were run at 7:15 and 7:30 am....today. Is that normal for them to run just as I turn on my cpu from sleep?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a very important file witch I had a password on. A .dmg file with password made in disk utility. Then i did manage to delete it from my Mac. I used Data Rescue 2 and got the .dmg file back.. But it had changed the name to D-00005.dmg istead of Private.dmg ( can not remember exactly what the file was named first )
The number one reason I know this must be the file is that it was 100mb. I only made one file with dmg file with 100mb. I remember the password, but it never ask for it when i try to open it. I`ll just get a message that it cant be open. If someone has a answere for me that can help me get what is in that .dmg file back I will transfer 50 usd on your fulltilt poker account.
I thought if you hold down option and control or option and command, and go to empty trash these stubborn items that say they are still in use, when they are not, will go away. Shutting down and restarting MBP won't make them go away either.

I have a MacPro (Intel), and I had my Music folder on a second (non-boot) internal drive. That drive was getting full, so I bought yet another internal drive to put in one of the other bays, thinking to copy the folders to the new, larger-capacity drive. So I bought a 2 Tb drive and transferred all my MOVIES to the new drive, but then went back and deleted my MUSIC folder and emptied the trash. I knew immediately that I'd made a mistake.
I haven't written anything to that drive whatsoever from that moment on, so absolutely nothing should have been over-written. I have plenty of room on the new drive to which I can recover the deleted files. Unfortunately the folder/directory was very large, with over 20,000 files, mostly of podcasts/spoken word stuff, much of which is no longer available or would represent thousands of hours of download time, plus all my digitized folk music from long out-of-print LP records.
You'd think I'd be more responsible with >600 Gb of data! However, fortunately the drive is in good working order, it just requires a good recovery strategy. I know that services that do recovery charge a fortune, and because I haven't written anything to that drive and it still mounts without problems, I'm hoping I can do this myself with a good data recovery software package. Because I am talking about literally thousands of files, it is just too painful to think about editing all the metadata about each file (name, artist, album, etc.), and ideally I would like to recover the files and the file structure so podcasts are recovered as such, etc.
Is this at all possible?
If so, what are the relative merits of File Salvage vs. Data Rescue vs. Kernel for Macintosh (Nucleus Data Recovery) vs. VirtualLab Data Recovery vs. Stellar Phoenix? Is there something better than these--these are the only ones I found on a Web search. Are there any head-to-head reviews of which someone is aware?
Sometimes items it put in the trash don't appear in the trash, although they are there. This often happens when I manually delete podcasts from iTunes, or drag an item such as a PDF from my downloads folder to the trash. The dock icon remains in it's "empty" state and bring up the trash finder window also shows that it is empty. If I restart my MacBook however, the items appear in the trash and are able to be deleted.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just discovered that I had deleted a bunch of "To Do" items by accident. I cannot find where they go. I cannot believe that there is no "Trash" type place for them and they are gone forever.
If that his how the "To Do" list works, I will have to find a replacement. Hard to believe that a single keystroke is so irreversible. I found myself somehow on the wrong row and deleted several items this way. Cannot find them anywhere.
I've been organizing some files on my external hard drive and after I had all the files where I wanted, I had to delete all the individual folders that they were in. They are all aliases which is really weird and I have no idea what happened. When I try to empty trash nothing happens, no pop up or anything tell me what's wrong. For the last couple of days, I haven't been able to drag any files over from my Stacks to the Trash; nothing happens. I'm forced to open the folder and drag it over from there or Apple+Delete it. I *might* have accidentally deleted a file (I don't remember which) causing this to suddenly happen and haven't been able to figure out how to fix it. It's more of an annoyance than anything else.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had some folders on an external HDD that I moved to the trash and then I moved around the folders on my external HDD and renamed some. Now the items that I moved to the Trash won't delete! They no longer have their normals icons and instead have the plain white piece of paper icon.
It seems the Trash can't delete them because it can't find the file's original file path. The items only reappear in my Trash when I connect the HDD but it's still really annoying.
Started with 10.6 update. Many items, not all, refused to go in the trash-mostly apps. Those that wouldn't, couldn't be deleted by any means I could come up with. They kept 'popping back' out of trash to the desktop. (or folder it was in). Found similar problems on Apple's forum, and the consensus was to delete ".trash" by using "sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash" in Terminal. That worked, but now anything trashed immediately pops up a warning that it will be deleted immediately in I agree--and it is. Nothing stays in the trash as before. How can I return to pre-Snow Leopard trash behavior?
