OS X :: IMac Network - IP Conflict Errors

Sep 24, 2009

Girlfriend just got a new iMac all in one a week or so ago. We had no problem setting this up on the exsisiting network but a couple days ago we began having issues. The 3 PCs, 2 iPods and one network printer seem to connect fine until the iMac connects (or tries to). We've gotten IP confilct errors on various machines (assigning already assigned IP address). I cannot even connect to the router when the iMac causes this problem. Take the Mac off, everything runs fine. I am new to the Mac world so maybe I'm missing something. Here's what my network consists of... Scientific Atlantic DPC2203C cable modem (Optimum) Netgear WGT624 v3 router 1 iMac all in one, 2 HP and one Gateway PC(all Vista), 2 iPod touch, 1 HP wireless printer all running DHCP and wireless.

OS X :: IP Address Conflict With Two Laptops On Same Network

Jul 27, 2007

I have two laptops on the same network. When one of them is on, the other cannot get on because of this IP conflict, and vice versa. How do I change one of the IP addresses so I can get both laptops on the network at the same time? I'm looking to transfer music between two laptops and because they both can't connect to the network at the same time (Mac and PC), I can't transfer the files.

IMac :: No Automatic Sleep Mode - Cannot Find Errors In Console

Aug 22, 2009

My 2009 iMac will not go to sleep by itself. It will go to sleep when it's induced but not automatically. I have been through several Apple support documents on this issue and searched here and on Google but nothing they suggest like resetting PRAM etc., works. I have been through console to see if I can find any errors and the only thing there is a couple of entries related to my Targus Bluetooth mouse. I have tried disabling and uninstalling this, updating the driver etc., and it doesn't make any difference.

OS X :: IP Address Conflict In AirPort Settings

I have a wireless router with 2 devices connected via ethernet (PC and XBOX 360) and 3 devices connected wirelessley (Imac, macbook, iphone and printer). This morning I was using my imac and all of a sudden I got a message saying another device is using my IP address.

I tried restarting the router, the computer airport but nothing worked. The only other device on at this point was the macbook which received the same message. I assigned a manual address to the imac via the advanced settings in airport but how do I fix this so that IP addresses are assigned automatically?

OS X :: Conflict Between Windows And Mac On The Same Dlink Router?

Nov 14, 2009

My son recently moved to Taiwan and is staying with friends. The apartment has a d-link router. My son has a MacBook Pro, his room-mate has a Windows computer, both connect to the d-link router using Ethernet.A conflict has erupted. I hope you can offer some advice and prevent bloodshed. My son gets up, turns on the router and connects to the internet. A while later, the room-mate gets up and can't connect. The room-mate insists that the Mac is causing him to not be able to connect. Tempers flare etc. and it's seems impossible to do any meaningful troubleshooting. The room-mate insists that the problem only started with my son's arrival. Also, the room-mate is concerned that viruses are getting into his computer because of the Mac being connected.

MacBook Pro :: Persistent IP Address Conflict On Airport?

Feb 21, 2012

I have about 60 users on my network with a router assigning DCHP leases to all machines. There is an airport extreme in bridge mode which is expanded with another airport extreme that are connecting the router to about 35 machines. There is a 50/50 mix of mac and pc.ONLY the macs are having a IP conflict issue.

Problem:IP Conflict errors only on the wireless connection throught Airport on Macbooks.I did have 1 iMac have this problem, but they are fine for the most part.It seems the MAC just will not let go of its previously issued address and is persistently re-asking the router for the address, kicking back the error.I try to have it clear the previous DCHP with no luck.

I have tried:

-Renew the DCHP lease

-Reboot Machine

-Repair Disk Permissions

-Update Software (Happens on both OSX10.6 & OSX10.7)

-Remove/Recreate Wireless Network Profile

If I just assign a manual address, it works.  I don;t want to do this to everything on the network and I would love for the DCHP to work as it should on the MBPs like it does on everything else. Rebooting the router is not an option since I have an entire office on it. And.. it is probably not a router problem since the problem is concentrated on one type of machine.

OS X :: Any Way To Fix The Type 1 Helvetica Neue/Snow Leopard Conflict?

Aug 25, 2010

I know this problem has probably been discussed and I've searched but have not been able to find good information. Main computer still running 10.4.11, MBPro running 10.5.8.

I'm a retired graphic designer, only now doing pro bono work, so not completely up to date.
Since leopard and snow leopard there are a number of font problems. Type 1 Helvetica Neue has been a standard of mine for 20 years. Likewise, Adobe Garamond Extra glyphs are in thousands of my files.

10.5.8 AGE characters do not show up. I installed 10.6 and they still don't show up. Any way to fix?
Also, any way to fix the Type 1 Helvetica Neue/ Snow Leopard conflict?

Hardware :: Time Capsule Port Conflict - How To Solve It

Mar 9, 2010

it seems that both Time Capsule and Leopard Server both use port 548 for file sharing. So if I have both the server and Time Capsule with File Sharing turned on, any attempt to login will go to the Time Capsule and not to the server.

If I turn File Sharing OFF in Time Capsule, I can than map port 548 to the IP of the server machine and users can properly login into the server again.

I am able to setup the File Sharing and I can see the hard disk drives that Ive allowed but on my old setup, I was able to view EVERYTHING on the networked Mac and I didn't even add them all to the File Sharing. I don't know how I did it but I can't seem to replicate it.

What is it that I'm not doing right?

OS X :: Imac 4 - Someone Accessing Network?

Oct 20, 2010

I recently noticed a "device" in Finder called "imac 4". If I click on details, it says PC Server. If I go to the Sidebar preferences, and uncheck Bon Jour, then it disappears, so that tells me it has something to do with this. I have read a little on what this is,and it has to do with file sharing on networks, or shared printers and such. I haven't done anything new that I can think of, so I'm wondering why it just started showing up. Could someone be accessing my network? It is a secured network with an AirPort base station.

Hardware :: Using Network Printing With IMac

Sep 13, 2008

I have an iMac 2.4 GHz with 2 GB RAM. My printer is a Canon PIXMA iP5200, which is connected via USB cable to a Maxtor Shared Storage Plus external hard drive. The hard drive is on my home wireless network.

This setup has been working fine for two years with my Windows computers; however whenever I try to print from the iMac I get an error message saying "Network host '192.168.1.66' is busy; will retry in 5 seconds. That's followed by another message saying 10 seconds, and so on up to 30 seconds. Needless to say I never do get a successful print.

The computer can see the printer and says it is "idle" and "ready." There are no other jobs waiting in the queue. The printer was setup with Internet Printing Protocol. The driver is correct and the firmware for the Maxtor drive is up to date.

IMac :: Can't Create Wireless Network

Jun 11, 2010

I have a friend that has an iMac (I have a Mac Pro so no Airport) and I couldn't get it to create a wireless network (he just got an iPad). When I turn Airpot on it see other wireless networks and will even join them so it's working. However when I try to create one it just says something like "Unable to create Wireless Network" and gives no reason or code as to why. I've tried with/without Password and auto/manual on different channels with the same (non) results. He has just passed phone support time and don't want to spend $49.95 for phone support (you can buy a wireless accesses point cheaper). Being a 24" it's a lot of trouble to lug to the Apple store also.

OS X :: Unable To Connect IMac To PC On Wireless Network

Dec 11, 2007

I am trying to connect my new iMac (Leopard OS) to a PC running Windows XP Home Edition using the wireless router. I have the PC connected to the internet via modem/router (supplied by Aliant, the SpeedStream 6520). I have been able to "get on" the internet with iMac using the wireless router. However, I can't get the PC and iMac to connect together over the wireless router inorder to share files etc. On the PC side:

1) I disabled the Windows firewall
2) have set up and named a sharing folder
3) have set up a "work group" name
4) believe I have the correct user name and password
5) not sure about the "network" name, (?SSID) information.
6) have a # with several periods in it that I don't know if this is the computer ID, IP address, or one of the above items, or if they are all one and the same.

On the iMac side:
1) have the IP address of the iMac
2) I have tried "connect to server" but am unable
3) I have never been able to see a "shared" section on the left side of the finder screen.

I have read the thread by "edesignuk". However I did not "put your mac in the same workgroup as your windows PC" as I couldn't find the correct screens on the iMac, and also in phone discussion with Apple help they said they had never done that and advised against it!

OS X :: Connecting IMac And MacBook To Same Wireless Network?

Feb 21, 2009

So a friend of mine just bought an iMac and is trying to use it on her wireless network. Before the iMac was bought she could use the wireless network I. Her house fine but since the iMac got hooked up the computers can't be online at the same time.

If the MacBook is on and the iMac is off the Internet works on the MacBook and vice versa. Is there anyway a firewall is preventing both computers from connecting to the same wireless network? If so, is there anything you can do to help me out to get them both working properly?A netgear router that was provided by time warner is being used and I'm not sure if y'all need anymore information than that.
