View 8 RepliesI have a few video files in the NSV file format which refuse to play on the Mac. I get sound, but no visual.
I've tried playing them in VLC player and MPlayer, but still no luck.
So i have some videos that's been downloading in portions (ie 15/50mbs slices). I clicked on it and nothing happens nor does any video app can be used to open it. I'm assuming that I have to compress it and make it into one file. I did, and when I clicked on it, it started to decompress back to how it was first downloaded! On a PC you would use winzip but I'm confuse as to how to play these files!
VLC would not play either file.
I have a folder that's full of TV ad files (MPEG, WMV).
I'm sick of watching each individually, and I also didn't like the size that cover flow shoes when going through them by it.
Quick look is good, but sometimes it crashes on my computer (I don't know why).
Is there a solution by Quick time, that can run several videos, one after another? or maybe a way to use automator for that?
My wife works for a local hospital and she has classes that she has to take online for continuing education. I have tried to get her videos to open and they won't. on the page that opens up it say we need Flip4mac, so downloaded it and nothing!
Info:iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I can watch movies from Netflix on our Mac book. But when I plug the computer into my TVs hdmi port I get sound but no picture. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. Before the upgrade, whenever I plugged the mac into the hdmi port the computer's desktop would appear on the TV; now I get nothing. What am I doing wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed that some system files are damaged. They are owned by strange groups/owners and the file size is zero. Here are some examples:
Code:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 133312 20 sep 09:37 launchctl
-r-xr-xr-x@ 44093 root 8629311 0 4 mei 2008 link

I repaired my HD and fixed some chain links, any idea to fix these files?
In all my years of using a modern computer (with hard drives) I've never once had a corrupt file. For most of that time I have used PCs.One thing that struck me when posting here, is how many people advises me on keeping an back up (as opposed to a raid mirror). I know back-ups make good sense anyway (and I do for my most important files) but it just made me wonder... how many of you have encountered a corrupt file whilst using a Mac/OS X?

When FTP files (Docs & Apps) from OS X 10.7.3 to OS 9.1 in both modes Binary & ASCII, the OS 9.1 receive them as a generic file and cannot be recognized! Some of the applications, like installers, do not have extension. But when burring them on CD through OS X 10.7.3, and insert the CD into OS 9.1 it does recognize them.

Might seem like a stupid question, but I have an SD card with hidden files filling it up to capacity. I want to delete these but I can't. I can see them, but when I hit delete it makes that noise that says you cant do this, and I cannot drag to the bin either.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 500GB Seagate Free Agent Go HD and was wanting to use it for my Time Machine back up. I cant modify any of the files when I have it connected to my MBP. But I can modify everything when its connected to my PC, so I know this is a format issue. My question is how can I reformat the HD so I can use it for my back up off of the Airport Extreme?I really don't have the money to go out and buy the Free Agent Go for Mac, and this drive was just used to transfer data from my PC to the MBP when I first got it.

I see that locate is installed on my Mac but invoking it does not always find what I am looking for I thought that maybe I need to update the database but $ sudo slocate -u gives me a command not found error. View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been backing up everything including system files with Time Machine for quite some time now. The question I have is that when you exclude the System folder, and when prompted choose to exclude all system files, does it just not back up any more system files from that point forward and leave the system files already backed up on the TM drive, or when removing all system files does it go back and remove all occurrences from your TM drive thus making more space available for your backups? So when choosing to remove all system files and if it does not remove existing backups of those files which files/folders would those be that you could manually remove?
View 3 Replies View RelatedTo make it short: On my iMac i have 2 partitions, 1 with Leopard installed, the other one with Snow Leopard on. Now, I'd want to use the Snow Leo partition as the system partition, and use the other as an archive... How can I remove all Mac OS X files from the partition without formating it? There is some app.. or something similar?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI wanted to delete from my desktop some useless for me files like some ipsw files downloaded earlier, pwnage tool, but when I wanted to trash those ones, CleanMyMac asked if I'd like to uninstall pwnagetool, I marked yes, because I thought that there may be some register files, than trashed the rest of files (cleared trash) and after rebooting my Mac seems to be formated, I mean whole settings, iLifes libraries disappeared, settings were zeroed but apps and data in Documents and Downloaded were the same. (I am almost sure that the problem was in deleting files with CleanMyMac), anyway at first I thought that was a glitch, recovered time machine backup and did the same, than restarted Mac - the same, now I am 100% sure about that, but I have to waiting another 6h with my very fast WD MyBook - because that time is required to wait with it if you want to recover 120GB, I wish I had TimeCapsule.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I look at the "About This Mac" -> "More Info..." -> "Storage" it shows my Time Machine and my system Hard Drive. On the system Hard Drive it is showing Backups at 60GB.  Where do I find those backup files to remove them? Or what type of files does that include? Is there a tool to delete these files? I have looked at other systems and have not seen any backups by default on the systems so I figure they should be readily accessible to delete. Â

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
Found some difficulties while migrating from hdd to hdd+ssd system.
Basically i want to copy system files only (using CarbonCopyCloner) to ssd and leave the rest of my data (music, films etc) on hdd.Â
I started with installing a blank system to my new ssd. Then Im about to copy all folders from my current HDD, excluding some big ones that I want to store on hdd.Â
So my question is: am I doing it right? Won't any hidden files be missing after this kind of migration?
Okay ... ;Â is there a way for e.g. Time Machine to back up system files / resources only .
... I mean I have a fully working core system software, that I want to backup, but ...Â
... I have also downloaded lots of other files / third party software,
which I'd like to exclude from the backup .Â
Is Time Machine capable of doing this ...
or is there some other software, that could to this ....Â

I want to copy a movie from my computer to USB and it does not work-I press copy item and then when i want to paste it, it does not even show paste the item, only eject, get info, view, arrange by, show view options. What could be the problem? I tried several USBs and in none of them i could copy the files.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was doing some cleanup on my macbook pro, deleting old log files and suddenly the system froze. I turned off and then on the laptop and to my surprise, the Mac partition doesn't show up on bootcamp menu, and I'm taken directly to Windows.I tried booting from the install disk and repairing the disk with Disk Utility, and although all my data seems to be all right (I can see all of it from Windows), and Disk Utility did not find any errors, when I reboot (while holding the option key) only Windows shows up.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've removed my old hard drive from my macbook (which I have sold) and am about to buy a new 13"mbp. Unfortunately I couldn't buy the new machine before selling the old, so I am presented with a problem. I could just install the disk in the new machine (its a 320gb 7200rpm, so in the long-term I'll be doing this in any case), but I'll want iLife 09 on there and its possible there are system files that are required for the new machine that wont be on my old system (10.5.7, from a 2007 macbook).
The main thing is that I want all my files, and applications and settings, plugins etc., on the new mbp, but because I don't have the old laptop I cant use migration assistant. The disk is in a usb enclosure currently. So, do I install the old disk and then try and update iLife, or will I run into problems? Or, can I transfer my applications and all their settings via some other means? I have a (full!) lacie firewire external which I could perhaps employ.
Looking for something I can setup to transfer files from my home iMac to my folks' MBP over the internet. We use iChat (via Google mail) often, and I "take over" their MBP to perform maintenance and just generally help them when they get stuck (they're not very computer literate) however, I would like to have a way to transfer files that are too big to email to their machine i.e. video clips etc.
Any recommendation for some sort of FTP application I've used FTP software on Windows machines before, just haven't used anything on macs yet.
