Applications :: Trying To Create A Resume In Pages '08, But The Header On The Resume?
Apr 24, 2009I am trying to create a resume in pages '08, but the header on the resume template is way too big for my purposes. I would like to shrink it so I can fit ~ 2 more lines of text onto the first page.
I have tried
1. exporting it to word
2. clicking everywhere in on the page
3. shrinking the line spacing between subheaders and sections, but it was not enough.
4. swearing
Is it possible to make the spacing of the header smaller, or am I just sol?

It used to have AppleWorks on it, but since I've reinstalled 10.3, it's no longer there. (I did a clean install.) Is there an option for it? NeoOffice has a 512mb Ram requirement that isn't going to be met by this machine. Also, the internet runs rather slow on it. They have a 1.5 megabit connection. Would it be better to run it under 10.2?

Feb 25, 2009I'm looking for a program that can let me plot data by hand for my experiments at school, similar to a graphing calculator but I don't need an eqn to do it, or a data file (but if it can do a regression for me then great). But i have a few basic questions and all since i am a new mac user coming from a pc. 1- I have a 500GB western digital elite harddrive that i used to back up all the data from my pc. Now some of these files are over 8GB large. I am confused as to how i can transfer over files. I have heard about different file formats but i am very confused by each. I would love if the hardrive could be used for both mac and pc tho. Does anyone have any insight to this. 2- Are there any free programs i should download. I already have coconut battery, adium, istat pro and iwork.

Jul 5, 2008I am trying to sync a folder on my desktop with a folder on a USB drive. Simple, right?
I have seen several programs that (may) do this, but all of the ones that I have seen are $30-$40. I have found several free programs that do something like what I want it to do, but miss the mark by "that much" (for example, Transmit will sync, but only with a network drive). The closest I found was an Automator action, but for some reason the synced items were three seconds apart from each other, so every time it would just re-sync the entire folder (which defeats the purpose).
Are there any free programs that will do a simple sync between two folders?
OS X Mavericks :: Print Icon Tends To Stay On Dock After Print Job Is Done And Disorder Print Queue
Jun 28, 2014I have recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and am now having problem with my hp 4500 office jet printer. The print icon tends to stay on the dock after the print job is done and then mess up the print queue. Even worse if I forget to cancel it manually then when I put the computer on 'sleep' the printer starts up again and the whole job is rerun unless I get to cancel it quickly on the printer!
It does not always do this (the print icon disappearing as it should do), but for 90% of the time it does.

Mar 25, 2010I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?

Mar 27, 2012I have two annoying issues and hopefully one of you can help. i have looked around and cannot find an answer to my question, especially my second one (which i think is connected to the first one). I am using Safari 5.1.3 and OS X 10.7.3. One of the accounts works perfectly, the other has two issues:
1 - Safari will always start with the same set of old windows, even closing some of them and then reopening safari will always get us to the same old set of windows. I understand the (new) standard behavior is that if i open windows A, B and C and then quit Safari, at reopening it will open the same windows A, B, and C. If i now proceed to close window (or tab) C and then quit Safari at the next opening i shouldbe presented with A and B only. This is not the case for me, i am presented still with A, B, and C. I can add to the windows but not subtract. Clearly something is wrong here. Thoughts?
2 - Trying to debug problem 1 i decided to close all the winodws in Safari, then in System Preferences-General uncheck the "Restore windows when ..." and so i hoped that closing Safari and reopening would get me to just the homepage, but this was not the case and i was presented with the same old set of windows. This is easily explained by the fact that under system prefs-general the box i had unchecked was still checked. It lets me uncheck it but does not retain it.... I obviously tried rebooting to no avail.

Nov 24, 2010I'm trying to print an Excel 2004 .xls spreadsheet file where I'm using to record attendance for the class I teach.I have my main Column A with Rows A-X and it shows up fine, I imagine because there is content in the boxes.
But I also have Columns B-L and rows A-X with nothing in their cells, but when I print it, they won't print.I need these blank because I'll check them off if the child in the first column attended the lesson. How do I make it so my many blank cells will print as well?

Dec 6, 2010I have had difficulty in attaching my HP Photosmart C5580 printer to my new MacBookPro (OSX 10.6) through my Netgear WGPS606 print server. After much searching I found previous posts here which advised me to add the Gutenprint driver 5.2.6 which I did. That finally DID successfully attach the printer through the server.
However, there is a lag of many seconds (sometimes minutes) between the SEND command and the starting of the printer. Is this the new normal that I need to expect or is there a fix?

Dec 27, 2010I'm new to Mac OS X, but have been working with Linux for almost 9 yrs now. I have set up a Linux box with CUPS 1.3.9. I can print from the server, and from other Linux stations to that remote server. However, I can't print from a client MacBook.
I set up CUPS on the client Mac via http://localhost:631 and created a printer associated with the remote queue / printer on Linux (the URL I use on OS X is http://mylinuxserver:631/printers/hpprinter and the driver is RAW).
I have no problems sending a test page from the CUPS web interface on Mac OS X to the Linux server -- the test page gets printed OK. However, I can't see the printer I just defined from other Mac OS X apps, and neither can I see it from the Add Printer Dialog on System Preferences (it's empty).
I tried creating the printer at the Add Printer dialog, but it would neither let me specify an HTTP URL (as far as I know, I had to use the IP icon on the toolbar) nor specify "RAW". So I tried creating a "dummy" printer in the Add Printer dialog, with a basic config, and then changing it from the CUPS web GUI. This didn't work either, since when I went back to the Add Printer dialog, the printer was gone.

Mar 1, 2010I'm using a MacBook, Mac OS 10.5.8. I've downloaded the driver for HP LaserJet m1319f MFP and the printer worked fine when I connect it directly to my MacBook (using USB connection).The problem is that printer is supposed to be connected to our office network users through a TP-Link Print Server (TL-PS110U). I've tried to use AppleTalk to connect to that print server but my MacBook only recognized that HP printer as a HP Fax machine and I can't print anything.

I know for a fact that resume used to work earlier. now, if the download is interrupted, it goes back to zero.

Mar 27, 2012It seems that since 10.7.3, the "Resume" "FEATURE" now does not obey the setting the General Control Panel (I have Resoter windows when quitting and re-openning apps un checked). I have an app that is causing the system to hang, but when I send shutdown -h now as root from the terminal and then restart the machine, ALL the applicatinos and their windows reopen, no matter what I do, including the one that is hanging.
