View 3 RepliesI have a .zip/.pages file that I cannot for the life of me seem to unzip, open, or convert into a Word document (.doc/.docx).

I have Microsoft office 08 and can make .docx files with Word, but when I download an attachment off the internet, it makes a .zip file with lots of random folders.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got my new iMac 20" last week and iWork '08 with it. I just wanted to know how to set Pages as the default for opening all .docx (MS Word 2007) and .doc (MS Word 2003) files. At the moment TextEdit is the default and whilst I can change the default for individual files, I haven't figured out how to set it for every file.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen docx files started floating around, I couldn't figure out how to open them in MS Word for Mac 2004. Then I found out you could download the xml converter from the MS site, and that solved the problem. However, now that I have installed Leopard and reinstalled MS Word 2004 and the requisite xml converter, for some reason, when I double click on a docx file, it does not automatically ask to convert it as it once did.
Instead, it seems to bypass/ignore the double clicked docx file and goes straight to that open document screen where you choose what type of document you want. Anyone know how to get it to automatically open the docx files up in ms word 2004 and convert with the xml converter in leopard?
I've recently made the move from a PC to a Mac, and so far, everything gone very smoothly. I got iWork with my Mac, and there is one problem that's bugging me; every time I open a word (docx) document in pages, it asks me if I want to keep the changes or discard them, and that is for when I am just reading them. When I edit them, and I go to save it, it keeps bringing up the save as box instead of overwriting the present docx file.
I've already installed any missing fonts I have in my documents. So, to summarize, my two main problems are: If I read a docx file, Pages acts like I made changes to it, despite the fact that I did not. If I edit a docx file, Pages keeps bringing up the save as dialog box when I try to save, instead of overwriting the original docx file. The same thing happens with Numbers and Keynote. I just need a temporary fix 'til I can get a hold of Office 2011.
I've been scouring Google for an Automator action that will allow me to drop .doc or .docx files into a directory and convert them to .odt, but so far I've had no luck. Can this easily be done or does it require a lot of programming knowledge to pull off? I really hope someone can help as this is a repetitive task that would save me a great deal of time.

I've got a movie that plays fine with the subtitles when I use VLC but when I burn it to a DVD to play in my DivX DVD player, it won't show the subtitles. Like, it recognizes there is a subtitle file there and I choose it, but they don't show up. I can't find any apps that let you convert from .sub to .srt (a more common format).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am hoping to convert WMA files to MP3 formate on a mac. I tried out the program named switch but I was unable to make that work (I was only using the trial version anyway. I did see the thread that was started in Nov 06 but it seems to be a little too old for discussion sakes. I was also hopping for new information/evolution of programs and freeware. I will try what it says about switch but I doubt it will work.
If you have any other programs, I would love to hear about them. (just as a side note, the WMA files could be protected. I don't know if they are and I dont know how to know if they are or are not. I read on the switch application page that it supports the decoded version of WMA thus that might be the reason it doesn't work).

Being a relatively new Mac user, I'm not sure what the best freeware would be for what I want to do, and I don't want to download twenty different programs before I find the right one. So, I'm looking for recommendations.
1) I want to find a program that lets me easily convert .wma files to .mp3's.
2) I also want to find a free, simple program that allows me to unzip .rar files. (This is another case with mp3's, except I have twenty songs zipped into one, and can only play them with VLC RAR-Loader.)
Is their a freeware program that will allow me to convert flv files to avi files in Leopard?
