have a BlackBook... just noticed today that when i touch the track pad in the middle and then lift my fingers off, it makes an annoying click noise. (it almost sound like a bug zapper) This does not happen if i touch the track pad on either side... just in the center...

My MacBook Pro 15inch makes a hollow sounding click/ping noise when I move along the track pad. It's NOT the motion sensor, that noise is more defined and pinpointed. This noise is random, sometimes occurs non-stop for an hour or two at a time every time I move the mouse, but usually occurs at random. Sometimes it also occurs when i have my computer on my lap or tilted and move it from side to side. But again, it is not the normal motion sensor noise.
I'm on my third MacBook Pro in less than 30 days. My first one corrupted all my files and my second one pinged like this one. I just need confirmation that this is actually OK and I will get a good MacBook and the money will be well spent. I think most of my issues stem from the fact that I'm new to Mac and just don't know what is normal.
My Macbook had a wierd nosie coming from the fan. Its sounded like a ticking noise and got more frequent as the fan speed increased.
Its only a week old, but never notice it before, properly because I use it infront of the TV.
However, I have use a can of compressed air and blasted the rear ven, which seems to solved the problem. I have loaded the machine upto 4500 rpm and still no ticking noise.
I've recently been getting a clicking noise from my hard drive, and when it happens 90% of the time my mac crashes for about 10 seconds. First thing I did was verify my disk in disk utility and I got a response I'm not entirely clear of the meaning so I've attached a screenshot of what my response is. I'm going to try some other 3rd party app to see whats up with my hard drive such as techtool pro...I'm on a 2.33 ghz 15" macbook pro with leopard.

I may have found a solution for all the people out there who upgraded their hd's to a 7200rpm and have the clicking noise. Apple released a firmware update for the 7200rpm drives that shipped with the uMBP. You can get the file from here.I don't know if this will fix only the hd's shipped with the MBP or any 7200rpm drive but its worth a try.PS: Also i ask that anyone who tries this please report back on your results.

The MBP is 3 years old I have an appointment at apple store for tomorrow, im pretty sure they'll just say that the right fan needs to be replaced (applecare warranty ended a month ago of course)
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter returning 4 21.5" imacs with yellow screens and hard drive noise, I decided to try a 27" and finally a beautiful screen with no problems, no hard drive noise. I was very happy...untill I started hearing a humming noise that sounds like it is coming from the power supply. The noise stops when I put it in sleep mode. I tried a bunch of things to determine if it was the fans or hard drive and that was not it. I am pretty sure it is the PSU humming all the time. This is the first imac with a perfect screen and now it is humming. I am so frustrated.
What should I do? Have the power supply replaced or return it for another one and take the chance of getting one with a yellow screen? I am still within my 14 days of original purchase date.
not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same problems but every 20-30 seconds or so I can hear the hard drive clicking and going away, is this normal ? Its not the mentioned "loud screeches" or other kind of annoying sound, its just like a little click, this is after the 10.5.3 update, just wanting to know if some of you experience the same thing ?

ONLY when the display sleeps, the upper left hand side of my 24" imac makes light ticking noises once every few seconds (its very light ticks, theyre hard to hear unless you put your ear to the computer). It doesnt occur when the screen is on and when everything is on, and it doesnt occur when the computer sleeps, it only happens when I put the display to sleep, which seems weird. I don't think its the HDD, I've checked the SMART status and all is fine, I've also checked the console. Why is this ticking noise occurring when the display sleeps and no time else and what is making it?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have a macbook pro 13 inch 5,5. 2010 model about 2 days ago i started noticing some odd behaviour on my mbp trrackpad. the tap works fine but the click doesn't.would also like to state that my laptops battery had a health of over 90% suddenly dropped to 78 and then to 67. charging cycles=280. what can i do to bring it back up. are these two related (trackpad and battery one over the other) is there a fix?

I'm coming from the MS Windows laptop. I noticed that I have to actually press the track pad (I'm not sure if that's what it's called) and simulate clicking. In the MS Windows side, I can lightly tap the track pad area and it would be a click. Is there a setting on the Mac OS X Lion or Macbook Air that would allow me to do this instead of hard pressing the trackpad for a click?

I replaced the hard drive, but that didn't help. The sound appears to be coming from the rear of the computer, near the top. (where the power cord plugs in).
View 3 Replies View RelatedNot sure from where in my macbook it's coming, but it started recently. The only thing that changed recently is that i relocated it to a different city, but i don't see why that would cause this. Clicking isn't really the right word to describe the noise...it's like a sweeping click. "Shtock." And it gets louder if i increase the volume on my computer, but it's definitely not coming from any application. And it usually goes off every minute, but sometimes there are breaks of two minutes or so.

This was mostly a clicking that the HDD made for about 5 minutes on startup. I ended up backing up my iMac and the shop where I bought it exchanged it for a new one without question, so it's no longer an issue for me. But I've read that a clicking HDD is not uncommon on the Mac and I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it's really that serious an issue? The store employees where I bought it all said that it was an impending HDD failure, although I've heard that isn't always the case. Any thoughts on this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I turned on my Macbook Pro today and this clicking noise is coming from the rightmost fan hole. I am really nervous that it is a serious issue as I use my Macbook for probably 15 hours a day for all sorts of artistic ventures.
After exploring, I've discovered with I use it on certain angles, the clicking stops, or increases/decreases in noisiness
Anybody have experience with this? Is there a way to clean it of the issue?

I have just noticed a weird clicking noise coming from the left hand side of my macbook. It only clicks when the macbook is being moved about or a sudden movement occurs. I thought it might be the HDD motion sensor but since its coming from the left hand side it's concerning me slightly.

When I hit the power button, I hear a weird clicking noise for a few seconds, then it sounds like the HD is powering down and then powering back up and the clicking noise again. If this goes on for ~30 seconds, a flashing folder with a ? shows up where the Apple logo should be. If that happens, I've powered it down and tried turning it on again. Seems to work, but this has me freaked out.
Does this sound like the HD is dying? Also recently, my Superdrive is spitting back every blank DVD I put in there.

Yesterday my MBP was accidentally dropped on the ground. It landed on the front left side, making a small dent (right beside the power light button). As far as I can tell, the computer seems to be functioning properly, except now there are 2 main issues:
1) The shell is slightly bent so that the computer doesn't sit straight (and wobbles).
2) There is a small, randomly occurring metal clicking sound coming from the computer; it's very irritating. I can't be sure, but it seems to be coming from the right side.
what is causing the clicking sound, and if it can be fixed? This computer is only 2 months old and is still under warranty; do you think the warranty would cover this sort of damage given the accidental nature of it?
I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro about 2 weeks ago. I'd say about a week ago I notice a clicking noise when I pick up the macbook or move it at all coming from the hard drive.
I finally took to the internet to find out what was going on, and got mixed results. Some said that it was normal for a Macbook Pro and that it was securing the hard drive so it didn't break while I moved it, and a vast majority said that the hard drive's failure was imminent. So what is it?
Yeah, so this morning I woke up and awoke my iMac from sleep only to have it make a horrible clicking noise multiple times and stay frozen on the desktop screen. I restarted it and made it spit out my Lord of the Rings DVD, held down the option key and brought it to the boot menu. Started it up from there and it is running fine, no clicking.
Should I be concerned about that horrible click?
So I just got my Mac Pro a few days ago... and actually didn't get it setup until tonight (long story), but anyways I've noticed something rather odd.
If I have my external HDD connected to my Mac Pro it makes a clicking noise when it goes into Sleep Mode or even when I shut it down. It's kind of like "click, click" pause "click, click" and this repeats until I wake it from sleep. The HDD is connected by FireWire 400 and everything is fine when the computer is awake, and when I disconnect the HDD and put the computer to sleep everything is fine.
Anyone have any idea what's going on here? The sound seems to be coming from the top portion of the machine.
I've had my unibody MacBook 2.4ghz for a few days, and I've been hearing a strange clicking noise coming from the superdrive. At first I thought it was the hard drive, it almost sounds like a seeking head, but upon closer inspection, the sound is definitely coming from the optical drive.
This is happening without a disc in the drive, and seems to make the noise every 15-20 seconds. It's not that loud, but loud enough to drive me crazy in a quiet environment.
I have Win XP installed on bootcamp, so I logged into windows to see if the clicking was present in a different OS (to rule out a driver issue in OSX). The issue is exactly the same in windows.
The drive does work, but I'm worried there might be something wrong with it that will cause a premature death.
- When I clean the screen with the included cloth or any cleaning cloth, the screen makes a clicking noise. As if it's like not flushed against the bezel. This only happens on the left part of the screen from, top to bottom. If I wipe in the center, no problem at all. I was wondering if anyone of you is experiencing the same problem? Btw, I also have the lines, but its very faint and I don't notice it as much as the my 3rd replacement Air, which I exchanged for this one. The Apple Store said that if I had any more line problems with this one, they won't replace it anymore and they would just try and replace the screen. I don't know if my problem is a common one and worth it to send my computer out to get its screen replaced, and who knows, maybe the replacement screen might have the lines and that's why I'm worried about getting the screen replaced, in addition to being out of my laptop for a couple of days.

Once iv done this i go into my sound in system preferences and it shows on the volume bar that its maxing out and once i go into garage band to try and record something all i hear is a "click click"!
