OS X :: Connection Between The Display And The Rest Of The Computer?
Jun 4, 2008
When I turned on my MacBook today, the screen was very dark. The computer is fully functional, but it is very difficult to see anything. It almost appears like the screen is set to a negative filter, with light colors looking dark. I have tried to adjust brightness, colors, display setting etc. I'm assuming the problem is with the connection between the display and the rest of the computer.

Two computers in the house MacBook and iMac, running on an Airport Extreme network, which includes an Airport Express plugged into the stereo.
A brief power outage the other night (perhaps unrelated), and in the morning, the network was wonky: the iMac was only getting two or three bars, streaming radio to the Express kept flickering on and off. When that happens, rebooting the Airport base station, the router, and the Express usually takes care of it.
Since the reboot, the iMac hasn't been able to keep a connection to the network, and often can't find it. It may start off, but then loses the connection and then times out trying to reconnect. Or the network doesn't even appear in the list. Read that launching Network and running Diagnostic will fix problems and it sometimes does, but never for long.
All this time except for one brief bit where it suffered the same problem the MacBook has had no problem connecting to the network and the Internet.
Have rebooted everything multiple times in various orders, run Disk Utility, and even gone ahead and upgraded the iMac to Snow Leopard (laptop was recently upgraded).

I have a mid-late 2008 MacBook connected to a Dell U2211H monitor using a Mini DisplayPort -> VGA connection.
When I use 1920x1080, I only get 60 Hz and the display is a fuzzy (text). Also, there are black bars. Why?
Will my issues be solved using a Mini DisplayPort -> DVI connection? Or should I exchange it for the 2209?

I have an 13" MBP that I ordered new in April, 2012. It is running Lion. I have an external monitor that is capable of 1440x900 resolution. I have an external keyboard and trackpad hooked up, and I like to close my MBP up and stick it in a BookArc. I want to be able to have the internal display disabled and to have the MBP only allow me to put windows on the external display, so long as the lid is closed. I also want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the resolutions available on my external monitor, which are higher than those supported by the internal display (specifically 1440x900).
This doesn't seem to work because I either have to allow the MBP to continue to draw my desktop across both screens (internal and external), OR use the "mirror displays" mode, which restricts my resolution of my external monitor. This means I either forgoe the additional resolution benefits of my external monitor, or I end up with windows that fall off-the-cliff, so to speak, because they are drawn in the portion of the desktop that would be shown on my internal display (which is closed).
I've read the community support pages on using the MBP with an external monitor, most relevantly, this page. It simply recommends using the "mirror displays" option. However, this option, as I mentioned above, doesn't allow me to make use of the additional resolution, and my external display looks bad. how to keep the 13" MBP in closed clamshell position, with the internal display disabled, and use my external monitor at resolutions higher than those allowed by the 13" MBP but which are available to my external monitor when not in "mirror displays" mode?

there is any way to get audio into the new display other than through the MDP connection. That would seem to leave us 2009 MBP owners out in the cold as far as audio is concerned.
Of course, it could be that the USB connection supports audio as well, but I'm leery because I haven't seen anything that indicates that.

I am wondering that is it essential to connect power adaptor all the time while operating in closed calmshell mode? When I unpluged the cable it didn't work. Is there some way?

My home network consists of three computers connected via a Linksys wired router. Is there any way to limit (or disable) the connection speed to a particular computer? I'd like to be able to selectively limit/disable the connection, without having to remove the ethernet connection on said computer. I can access the router status and enable/disable the connection for the entire network, but I can't seem to selectively limit/disable a particular connection.

I just downloaded Air Display to use my iPad as a 2nd monitor with my 21 inch iMac. I use Remote Desktop Connection to remote in to my work computer. I was hoping to be able to move my e-mail client to the iPad, and do most of my work on the iMac.

I know that it's possible to share a wired internet connection from one mac to another computer through wireless, but I was was wondering if it's possible to do the reverse: share a mac's wireless internet connection through the ethernet port.Ideally, the setup I want is to have my iMac connected to wifi and have my xbox 360 connected to the iMac with an ethernet cable.

Once in a while the trackball or the keyboard loses its connection to the computer. The situation is corrected by unplugging the USB connector (the trackball from the keyboard or the keyboard from the iMac) and reinserting it.Here is the System Log from the most recent loss of keyboard:Nov 16 16:32:35 His kernel[0]: Hub in Apple Extended USB Keyboard

My computer (OS X 10.9.3) and my iPad (iOS 7) are both connected to the internet via WiFi from the same modem. Fairly often the connection fails for the computer (sometimes once an hour or more) while it remains stable for the iPad. My internet provider finds no fault with the modem.

I am thinking about using my iMac as an external display for my Dell Laptop listed in my sig. Most of the time at home I can work on my iMac, but occasionally I use windows, and I have the dell for that. According to Apple:
"On the 27-inch iMac, the same port offers input, too. So you can connect any external source that has DisplayPort output including a MacBook or MacBook Pro and use your iMac as a display."

I have a macbook pro from fall of 2007. So far it has worked perfectly and I've used it with an LG full hd LCD for about 1,5 years. I use a regular DVI - HDMI cable.About a month back it suddenly stopped working. The TV just tells me "No signal".I didn't change any settings or anything. The computer still recognizes when something is plugged in as the screen flicks blue and the displays icon in the menu bar lists the TV with correct model and resolution. And if I have spaces turned on it changes from 4 to 8 "screens".
I have tried everything from rebooting the computer to resetting P-RAM.
I got a new cable, no difference. However when I tried the TV with my friends MBP, it worked. So the problem is definetly in my computer, not in the TV or cable. My OS X is Version 10.5.8 Leopard.

After using my MacBook Pro I close the laptop and it goes to sleep. Later when I return to it and open it, sometimes it can't find the network. The computer is able to see that I have an Apple Network available, but it won't connect.Sometimes when I try to connect, it gives me a timeout. How I fix it is to walk over to the router and unplug it and plug it back in. After I get the green light again, I go to the Apple Network and it works.

My Macbook has the infamous crack on the palm rest, I've made a reservation at a genius bar. Could anyone tell me what has happened with their macbook when going to get this sorted? Will they have to take it away and if so how will i get back? I've heard that sometimes people have got their macs back with blank drives, I'm guessing it would be best to make a back up. Its quite an inconvenience for me not to have my Macbook during the week, is there anyway they can do this in one day?

first post! I have been lurking around the forum for quite some time. I decided to pick up a macbook pro today because I was able to get a pretty good educational discount. I have the 15" MacBook Pro top end with the matte screen.
Everything seems perfect right now. However, even when the volume is at 50%, and I play something that has bass in it, the RIGHT palm rest shakes/vibrates a lot, and you can feel it. It is a tad bit annoying. I was wondering if this was normal.

Is the trackpad supposed to be completely leveled with the rest of the body? The reason I ask is because I have noticed that on some MBPs the trackpad is "pushed" down into the body a little. It is not much but it is definitely visible, there is an indentation. Is this normal or is it a manufacturing defect?
