I want to edit some music track information in iTunes, but my iTunes music folder is 'read only'

Just noticed this by accident. By default one type opens with iTunes and the other with Quicktime. Can anyone explain what the difference is between file types and why this occurs in the first place?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am willing to save on my hard disk the content of a SD card that contains mts files that I can access via AVCHD, BDMV, STREAM.
When I copy the whole SD card to save on my hard disk, I get an error message saying that the copy cannot proceed because one of the file contains information that cannot be read.
I was told on this group, that changing the structure of the AVCHD folder should not be changed. Can I delete the file that contains a bug ? or will I screw up the AVCHD folder ?
My MacBook Pro will not read digital audio cds. It has in the past, but now it seems to have stopped reading them.
I have several purchased cds I would like to get on itunes, but I can't get it to recognize the discs. I can hear it spinning several times, like it is trying to access the disc, then it ejects it without mounting.
It does not appear in iTunes, or anywhere on the desktop. It will read and burn blank cds and dvds. I havde a 17" MacBook Pro, 2009, with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868 drive.

I have a concert I recorded and I would like to extract the audio from either the MPEG-2 file or the DIVX file. Is there any program that will extract either the AC3 or MP3 audio? If it is the AC3, what else do I need to use to convert it to MP3 or AAC or WAV?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using my MBA with an old Dell Inspiron laptop (running Vista) for the optical drive when necessary. I've installed software using remote disc with no problems (reinstall of OS, then Sibelius music notation software). I assumed I would also be able to read audio CDs or DVDs using remote disc, but every time I have tried this it doesn't work. The connection is fine, but the MBA is unable to find the data - one message I've had says it cannot find the original source (or something like that!). Does remote disc only work for software? Or might there be a way around this? I don't particularly want to use iTunes on the Dell as it's set up with my wife's account and even plugging my iPhone into it got it all confused.

When I came back to my Mac, I plugged the external drive into my Mac and moved those files to my hard drive. The second batch was copied using Connect to Server command right from my Mac.The funny thing is Final Cut Pro cannot recognize the first batch of videos. So I took a look at the file permissions using Terminal. All of the videos in the first batch have a file permission of -rwxr-xr-x@ but the others have -rwxr-xr-x. I tried to do a chmod 755 on every video file, but the @ sign still wouldn't go away.

I pressed "save as" and suddenly pages did not respond. I tried to force quit but it wouldn't do that so I restarted. I thought since I already had saved it it would be okay, buy when I try to open it now I get the message "Document cannot be read, invalid file."

It seems I have no application with which to open them on my fancy desktop.... Can you recommend a software program to open or translate the files so that they are readable, and perhaps compatible with iPhoto?

Everytime I've opened an Excel (Microsoft for Mac 2011) file today it opens as read-only, and the only way I can save changes is by changing the name of the file, which I don't want to do. I did not have this problem last week when working with the same file. I hit command-I -- I'm listed as read & write and then it said Staff (it's just me -- read-only) -- I just switched it to read & write& did the same for Everyone. Yet it still opened (from the Finder) as Read-Only. P

Within the last week, all of our computers have developed a 'bouncing E'! The entourage symbol jumps up and down and demands attention, there is a box saying 'Entourage could not read this .rge file', it never stops, it just comes back every half hour or so. I suspect it has something to do with sharing projects, but we have done nothing differently from normal so can't trace the reason. It's possibly linked to when one person sent an invite to all the others asking them to attend and event but I'm not sure.
It was also suggested it might be because there is a lot (ie up to 10 years in one case!) of email in the in box, but we have been doing some clearing out with no result. I don't know much about macs and am in the dark here, and everyone is blaming me as it was my idea to create a shared diary/contacts list in entourage. Some other forum said to find the corrupted file, but I've no idea where to look or even how to tell that it's corrupt.
I have a 1TB external HD being used for media. I have it connected to a Mac Mini which until recently was running Snow Leopard Client quite happily. This is my living room media centre. Last week I moved the Mini to SL Server for unrelated reasons. The external drive is now stuck as a "Read-only filesystem". I have tried every method known to Google and man to open the drive to no avail.
Some things you should know:
-The drive is called 'Monkey'
-*any* commands entered with sudo or as root that target Monkey are returned negatively as a result of 'read-only filesystem'. This includes chmod, chown, chflags, etc.
-diskutil cannot modify the volume: 'read-only filesystem'
-vsdbutil cannot modify the volume: something about the automount routine
-running 'ls -alO' produces the following (baffling) echo:
drwxrwxrwx 18 mediacentre staff - 680 27Nov 00:37 Monkey
This means that the volume apparently is fully read-write by all users and does belong to my admin user ("mediacentre") and should be accessible by other users of the machine and there are no flags? No Access? The drive has not been physically jumped to read-only (I even checked in case a housemate way playing a prank) and nothing has changed other than the computer which initially formatted the disk out of the box (i.e. the original owner was 'that' root) has been replaced. I've backed up the disk and am prepared to reformat the dang thing, but I can't even do that, since nothing can target my mystical read-only volume!

I have a shared folder on Lion Server. The permissions for the folder are set to everyone can read & write. When I add files from another computer to the shared folder the file permissions are not set to read & write for everyone. Is there a setting I am missing on the server to make all files added over the network to have the same permissions as the folder?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a Macbook pro that died. I need to get some files from the harddisk. The harddisk has been mounted on another Mac running leopard. Unfortunately the file-system is showing as read-only making the disk unusable for further writing on that mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery file created within the Shared folder is automatically a "read-only" for all other users. How can I make all users able to edit all files within the Shared folder? - The "Apply to enclosed items" does only apply settings to existing files. This means that for every new file you add, you have to press "Apply to enclosed items". - Surely there must be a way to apply the folders setting to all future content? All I want is for this folder to function as any external hard drive; accessible by all accounts without any restrictions!

I recently moved all my fcpx projects/events to a new Harddrive - I thought I did this correctly by copying/duplicating all projects/events from within FCPX.
When I last used FCPX all the projects/events were there - no issues. Also, when I look at package contents - everything is still there in terms of events and file sizes.
All the library files are on an external hard drive, on an encrypted disk image. Now a week later I have tried to open FCPX and I get the following error
"The document “MND_Z_FCPX” could not be opened. Read-only file system" and nothing will open.
Have checked permissions - these all seem in order. OSX is10.9.5

I have a problem with downloading files on my OSX partition. When using firefox/opera/safari to download a file, I often get an error "the source file could not be read, please try again later or contact system administrator" (Firefox) the other browsers just stop.
I tried repairing disk and permission repair, but no luck. Does anyone of you guys experienced similar problem or know how I can fix this? please let me know.
When I go to open my itunes software I get a pop-up window that says the following, "The itunes Music Library File cannot be read because it does not appear to be a vaild library file."
I deleted the itunes file (the file that had the logo) and downloaded another copy from Apple but the problem still persists.
I have a pdf that I must print to buy a home. It will not print as is. I shot screen shots, brought them into Photoshop, made them jpgs and adjusted the gamma to make them very black and white.
It helped but the pages cannot be read. There is plenty of ink in the printer.
I need to send this paperwork tomorrow with a check...

After having weeks of airport issues, the Genius Bar folks decided that reinstalling my operating system was the only opin to fix what they think is a software issue. After restoring all my data using my last backup and doing all software updates again, I am getting an error when trying to open itunes - 'the file itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. Would you like to download itunes now?. The two oprions I am given are 'quit' and 'download itunes'. If I chose to download itunes it tells my there are no updates! I have also plugged my ipod into my laptop and it doesn't recognize it. What should I do?? I am totally lost. When I ran the updates last night it showed itunes updating, so I am unclear as to why it isn't even opening.
