OS X :: White Macbook Accepts 3GB Memory Upgrade But NOT 4GB?

Feb 25, 2009

I have just taken delivery of a new white Macbook and I upgraded HD to WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB HD and memory to Corsair VSA4GSKIT667C4 Mac Memory 4GB 2 X 2GB PC2-5300 667MHz200 -Pin SODIMM for apple laptops.

It would not work even after correctly reinstalling the new memory a number of times

I decided to put back the original memory but by mistake I installed one old dimm and one new dimm and the computer then installed Mac OS X on the new HD and works OK.

Info shows 3GB of Memory = 1 x 2 GB and 1 x 1 GB.

Why will it not accept 4 GB?

MacBook :: Upgrading NEW White - Memory & Harddrive

May 7, 2009

I am looking into upgrading my PBG4 1.33 to a NEW (updated) white macbook.

My question is regarding upgrading the memory & harddrive. iFixit makes the changeout of these items look incredibly easy. Is it? (i am by no means a fix-my-own-computer person, but I did recently replace memory and harddrive in my PBG4, and that was much more involved than what it looks like this process would be) I can get a 320G 7200 HD on ebay for under $60! Add in the RAM from ebay, and you are looking at upgrading the $999 macbook for under $100 - Apple charges nearly $300 for these upgrades, and it is a 5200 HD!

Am I missing something? Can I really put the 7200 HD in the new macbook? Is it really as easy to replace as it looks?

Hardware :: Apple Updates White MacBook With Faster Processor And Memory

May 27, 2009

Apple alongside its 2009 Back-to-School promotion on Wednesday also updated its entry-level white MacBook with a faster Intel processor, memory architecture and more hard disk space.

The update was announced quietly on the company's online store. For the same $999 Apple charged for the previous iteration of the white polycarbonate model, users get a 2.13GHz processor (up from 2.0GHz), a 160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm (up from 120GB), and 2GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM (up from 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM).The update is the second this year to the Cupertino-based company's entry-level notebook offering, the first of which arrived on January 21st when model was updated with NVIDIA's 9400M graphics architecture.

That update also saw the notebook gain the same 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 1,066MHz front-side bus employed by the mid-range aluminum unibody MacBook, as well as a doubling of its memory to 2GB. The new white MacBook is eligible for Apple's just-announced Back-to-School promo, which offers a $229 online rebate good for a free 8GB iPod touch to qualifying education individuals who purchase a qualifying Mac and the iPod on the same receipt before September 8th.

MacBook Pro :: SuperDrive Accepts Disk And Ejects Them Two Seconds Later?

Aug 12, 2010

I have never had any problems with this SuperDrive, until I installed Toast last week. I went to burn a disk, and it failed the burn; then after that any kind of disk I inserted into the drive would be ejected.

The drive doesn't even try to read it, nor does it try to spin up whatsoever... I put the disk in, it makes an 'accepting' noise, then less than two seconds later, it rejects it. I'm running 10.6.4, with HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N running AP12 firmware.

Like I said before, the disk drive never had trouble reading anything, but all of a sudden decided to reject every one under the sun.

Restarting in Windows doesn't effect it, nor does inserting a disk before the computer boots. Everything appears normal in diagnostics, but the drive is not even trying to read it.

MacBook Pro :: Upgrade Memory And Hard Drive Or Buy New?

Jul 6, 2010

I have an A1226 15" MacBook pro with 2GB of RAM and 120GB hard drive. I'm busting at the seams! It's running very slow, with 110GB of hard drive used up. I need more hard drive for photos, etc. and more memory for speed. I'd rather not spend the money for an iMac, so I'm considering upgrading this MacBook Pro with 500GB hard drive and 2GB more RAM (total 4GB). Can anyone tell me the pros and cons? Am I fooling myself to think this is going to come close in performance to a new iMac with 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive?

MacBook Pro :: Slow Performance After 8GB Memory Upgrade

Mar 6, 2012

I just installed 8 GB Crucial memory for my 13" MacBook Pro (Late-2011; 2.8 Ghz). I immediately noticed scrolling on safari was jumpy or skipping. It is like this in other applications as well. Even zooming in/out of pdf's and using iphoto. I only purchased this laptop in Feb, and this bothers me.I tested using the Geekbench app. Every benchmark was about equal or much higher except for Processor Integer Performance, more specifically "Image Decompress multi-threaded scalar." It went from 138.3 down to 134.3 Mpixels/sec. Do I have lemon memory?I would almost rather go back to the 4 GB if this laggy performance is a continual issue. One of the things I love about Mac's is now becoming irritating.

How Much Memory Can Upgrade With MacBook Pro Late 2011

Apr 8, 2012

I am wondering how much memory I can upgrade with my MacBook Pro Late 2011. I went on Apple.com and they only offer up to 8GB of Ram for my model when I looked around and saw that on OWC ( MacSales.com) which is a very excellent reliable source for all your Apple Products. But, I was able to find a 16GB of Ram for my MacBook Pro Late 2011 and it said it can be used for my MacBook Pro.Basically Apple says its only up to 8GB of Ram while I see other people have 16GB of Ram for the same year as mine but the only difference is the the size of the computer. Anybody could give me a answer with this question as I dont want to buy the 16GB of Ram and it not working for my computer.url...
