MacBook Pro :: What Memory Type And Brand Is Suitable For A RAM Upgrade
May 3, 2012
I have MBP that has 2x 2G DDR3 1067MHz memory installed on it, I would like to upgrade them to 2x 4G, but I'm not sure what to buy. are memories for Macs, Mac specific? or I can use any standard laptop RAM?

I've just come across this product at belkin. A 16 GB solid state drive, that flush fits in the express-port of the MBP.
Does this mean, that you can use this as a typical SSD if it is left in the port at all does? Running apps and stuff directly from this? Or is it just a fast type of memory-stick?

I have a Mid 2010 13" Macbook Pro and I'm going to upgrade my RAM. I know I can upgrade up to 8GB of RAM, but I was wondering what is the best "brand" and what website I should buy it from. For example, eBay, NewEgg, Amazon / PNY, Crucial, etc?Â

Or does it really matter will any brand do or would you recommend a specific brand for an iMac?

I have a 2008 macbook pro with brand new 500GB hard drive and 6GB new RAM.   My old hard drive is backed up on external drive, via time machine. When the shop put in the new hard drive (there was nothing wrong with old one, it was just stuffed to the brim), they loaded snow leopard from a disk, but I haven't put anything from the old drive back on yet....I haven't even configured my mail and am just reading mail from ipad and phone these days.Â
Should I install Lion before I restore all the old backed-up stuff, or is it important to have anything, ( like maybe preferences) already on the computer when I download Lion. I want to be selective when restoring from time machine, because my old hard drive had a lot of ancient software and junk on it that had migrated from every computer we've ever owned, and that is many, many. So, I'm just stuck on the best way to proceed. Also, should I install the latest update for 10.6.8 before I download Lion? I see today that some new updates have become available; java, security, safari, and apple software installer.Â

just came home from Apple Store today with new computer and superdrive, which is not showing up when plugged in. When I put a CD in it reads it for a few seconds then spits it out. I am on the road so getting to an Apple Store will not be easy for the next week.

Can all versions of the iBook G4 12" use PC2700 RAM? Even the 800GHz and 1.0 GHz models? I know you're supposed to use PC2100 in them, but the PC2700 is so much less expensive than the PC2100 right now.

I've seen some people say yes, others say no...Also- can I upgrade to a SSD hard drive? If so...which one?Any other upgrades I can make to get a few more years out of it? (I don't use it often enough to justify buying a new MacBook... I use my iPhone 4S and new iPad for most day to day tasks.

I have just taken delivery of a new white Macbook and I upgraded HD to WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB HD and memory to Corsair VSA4GSKIT667C4 Mac Memory 4GB 2 X 2GB PC2-5300 667MHz200 -Pin SODIMM for apple laptops.
It would not work even after correctly reinstalling the new memory a number of times
I decided to put back the original memory but by mistake I installed one old dimm and one new dimm and the computer then installed Mac OS X on the new HD and works OK.
Info shows 3GB of Memory = 1 x 2 GB and 1 x 1 GB.
Why will it not accept 4 GB?

I have an A1226 15" MacBook pro with 2GB of RAM and 120GB hard drive. I'm busting at the seams! It's running very slow, with 110GB of hard drive used up. I need more hard drive for photos, etc. and more memory for speed. I'd rather not spend the money for an iMac, so I'm considering upgrading this MacBook Pro with 500GB hard drive and 2GB more RAM (total 4GB). Can anyone tell me the pros and cons? Am I fooling myself to think this is going to come close in performance to a new iMac with 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive?

I just installed 8 GB Crucial memory for my 13" MacBook Pro (Late-2011; 2.8 Ghz). I immediately noticed scrolling on safari was jumpy or skipping. It is like this in other applications as well. Even zooming in/out of pdf's and using iphoto. I only purchased this laptop in Feb, and this bothers me. I tested using the Geekbench app. Every benchmark was about equal or much higher except for Processor Integer Performance, more specifically "Image Decompress multi-threaded scalar." It went from 138.3 down to 134.3 Mpixels/sec. Do I have lemon memory? I would almost rather go back to the 4 GB if this laggy performance is a continual issue. One of the things I love about Mac's is now becoming irritating.

I am wondering how much memory I can upgrade with my MacBook Pro Late 2011. I went on Apple.com and they only offer up to 8GB of Ram for my model when I looked around and saw that on OWC ( MacSales.com) which is a very excellent reliable source for all your Apple Products. But, I was able to find a 16GB of Ram for my MacBook Pro Late 2011 and it said it can be used for my MacBook Pro.Basically Apple says its only up to 8GB of Ram while I see other people have 16GB of Ram for the same year as mine but the only difference is the the size of the computer. Anybody could give me a answer with this question as I dont want to buy the 16GB of Ram and it not working for my computer. url...

I just bought 2 - 4 gb memory to ugrade my 2 - 2 gb memory on my macbook pro 13" early 2011. Installed them and rebooted. The About Mac still shows 4 mb memory and looking farther it shows it has 2 - 2 mb memory. Also, now when I close the lid on the computer and it shuts down completely and not just go to sleep. i do not know if the two are related.
