OS X :: Updated BootCamp Now Mac Start Into Windows By Default
Sep 9, 2009
Did some software updates to the Windows side of the Mac via Bootcamp the other day and now whenever my backup drive is plugged in to my computer (always is) the Mac will boot into Windows by default. I checked the startup disk and reset them back to Mac, but it doesn't matter. If the drive is connected it will now always boot in to windows by default. If I unplug the drive and start up the machine it goes in to Mac just fine. Not exactly sure wtf happened.

Did they update the video driver for the 27" iMac so it did not have the "gradient problem"? I am wanting to get a 27" again but only if they have fixed this problem.

I am wondering if there is a way to have my iMac boot up in OS/X by default and if I want to use windows then use the hold down option method. So when I also come out of windows that it will go to OS/X without having to hold down the option key while I boot. Is this possible? If so how do I configure it?

I installed on my mac using bootcamp (I use parallels), so, After a few attempts as my s/n was entered incorrectly... I finally got xp working. However when running the mac, XP loads up automatically. I can not seem to get the mac to start up. I done everything by the book, why is this happening? how do I fix? I can now access the MAC, I have removed the windows section... however it still tries to start up windows...

I just installed bootcamp and the drivers from the apple cd, it went smoothly. It was installed on a new 20GB partition. I use Windows XP,and OS X 10.5.7. Now,after the windows was installed, I restarted my mac, hold option and chose the OS X partition, there was the apple logo then a blue screen, and it stayed that way. Blue screen was changed by a bluish-gray screen every 25 seconds or so,but that was short and it got back to the normal blue screen. That went on for sometime and I had to hold the off button for 5 seconds to turn it off. I tried starting os x from safe mode, it took longer to start, but it still wouldn't work. I used the "Bootable Utilities" disk, and opened Disk Utility, and Disk Warrior, checked the disk, they didn't find any errors.

I have a Mac Mini and I am running Snow Leopard and BootCamp 3.0. I am trying to install Windows XP. I'm using BootCamp to partition the disk. I've tried with different sizes, the outcome was the same. After partitioning I can see the Bootcamp volume in Finder and on the desktop. Bootcamp then tells that I can start the installation. The Windows XP CD is in the drive. Restart follows. And then nothing but the gray screen. No installation starts. I have to shut down the computer and start it again.
This time I hold the option key and there is only the Mac OS volume! There is no sign from the BootCamp volume. After starting the computer again it doesn't boot from the Mac OS volume, there is the gray screen only, which means that the startup disk have been changed and that usually happens when you install windows with bootcamp - it changes the startup volume from Mac OS to the BootCamp volume, but still the BootCamp volume is not there. I've installed Windows XP with BootCamp several times. I know how it works. Installation starts automatically after the restart.

My imac is around 4 years old and has been running both windows bootcamp and os x snow leopard for at least 3 years without any problems. My default operating system is mac and when I tried to turn it on this morning it gets stuck on the white screen with the grey apple icon and the loading icon spinning. Also a bar appears below this that I have never seen before. I have tried opening the mac in recovery mode but it does not respond and goes to the same logo screen.
I have tried holding the 'D' key down while the mac comes on and doing the apple hardware test but once the window pops up it does not complete the probing and appears to freeze just before its completion. I have also tried booting in safemode but the script stops at these commands:
-launch tl: Please convert the following to launchd: etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisory.plist
-launch_msg(): socket is not connected
However, the windows bootcamp is working fine and I can access my mac files from there. Also worth mentioning is that it is not a grey screen that appears on start up it is just the normal apple icon screen.

Stuck on screen with apple logo. No curser, nothing.
Last try got stuck on a blue screen that alternated tones of blue every few seconds. Was able to start up in safe mode ( held shift). Finder loaded after a loooong wait. Once there I used Disc Diet to empty caches- this usually help to get rid of the rolling beach ball. Wasn't able to do much at all- all with rolling beach ball. Restarted without shift key- stuck on apple.
Should I uninstall Safari?

I was about to install the new ATI video drivers from AMDs website for the 4800 series together with the Catalyst Control Center, however the sites FAQ and the installer itself "reminded" me to completely remove any old video drivers before attempting to install the new drivers. Well, the problem is that I can't find anything related to video card drivers in the software management / uninstall menu...
Is it safe to just install the fresh drivers and the CCC without removing the old ones ?
Running Vista SP1 64Bit, Mac specs see sig.

Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

Ever since updating to Safari 5 (33h and 19m ago on an Aluminium 20" iMac with 2.0GHz and Mac OS X 10.6.3), SHIFT+TAB closes application windows for me, instead of going in reverse (like with buttons and text fields in Safari).I've checked System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts and couldn't find anything. it seems, to only close windows instead of quitting applications

I will mostly use it for PSD, Final Cut, Logic, Entourage and iTunes.
However, I am also planning to use Fusion/Parallels to run, exclusively, Microsoft Excel, PP, Word and Acrobat. I will NOT use the Internet or play games while in Windows mode. Does the following setup reasonably protect my mac from viruses?
1. Bootcamp
2. Fusion/Parallels
3. Install anti-virus software on Microsoft side
3. Do not operate Outlook or Internet on PC side
4. Receive all e-mails on Mac (Entourage or G-mail)

I recently upgraded to Lion (desktop not server) and now my HDD sharing with Windows 7 is not working like it used to. If I boot back in to Snow Leopard (diferent HDD) it's all working fine. My windows 7 PCs can access my shared Mac Pro RAID no problem. If I boot in to Lion they can 'sometimes' connect but mostly not. To get them to connect I seem to have to use the IP address instead of the system name (\MACPROLIONRaid) like I used to with SL.Nothing changed on the Windows 7 system at all, other than now I get the infuriating dialog tellmy my password is incorrect. Some unknown sequence of rebooting one or both machines, sometimes multiple times, will let me access the mac, but I have no idea what's going on here.

First off, let me explain the position I am in. I have the newest 13in MacBook with a 2.4Ghz hard drive. I installed Windows Vista on it recently after I got it. Many times while using Vista, all audio would stop and be replaced with crackling sounds. This would continue until I restarted. I tried going to Dell, downloading drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n WiFi Adapters and installing those, but that caused a worse problem. Windows can no longer find any networks, and when I select the Broadcom WiFi Adapters in Device Manager, it says "This device cannot start." and says it's Code 10 or something.

I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.
I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."
So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?

You can get updated Nvidia Drivers for you Macbook here:
For XP:[URL]
For Vista:[URL]
It has updated 'forceware' and installs without problems. I noticed better performance in games than i was getting with the stock apple drivers. These are for the new late 2008 aluminum Macbooks with the geforce 9400m chipset.

Maybe I'm just over thinking this, but Apple never posted a KB article about how to upgrade an existing bootcamp partition with the new snow leopard bootcamp 3.0 drivers. I'm assuming if you already have bootcamp 2.1 you boot up in boot camp and then insert the snow leopard disc in order to upgrade the drivers to 3.0 correct? Or do I have to erase my stupid bootcamp partition and reinstall it all over again using the new leopard boot camp assistant in order to get to 3.0?

i have the metal macbook (bought november 2008) and i wanted to install windows xp on it. I read my manual i got with my mac and used the boot camp installation thing. I managed to do the hardrive partition thing and it got to the stage after that where it said it was installing windows, so i followed the instructions and then once it restarted after that it kept going back to the 'install xp' screen. I restarted my macbook and took the disk out and when i started it up again it kept coming up with a message which 'no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key' . So figuring it was part the way through installing xp i inserted that disk again but when i pressed any key it didnt do anything so i restarted it again with the disk in and this time it came back up with the blue windows setup screen. I followed the installation instructions again making sure i picked all the options that the bootcamp instructions told me. Once it got to the restarting stage again it kept loading up with the windows setup screen again. I figured i would be going round in circles if i chose to install it again so i restarted my mac and took out the xp disk and put in my mac installation disk instead. Got all the way through the installation part until you have to 'select a destination' and its got nothing to select? just wondering what to do from here if possible id love to be able to save the files that were on my other bit of the partition (not the windows xp bit) but really i just need my macbook working!

I have installed bootcamp in my MBP, with win7 and OSX dual OS.Now, i cannot start OSX in bootcamp. When i choose restart in OSX in bootcamp, it will still restart in win 7..And when i restart MBP with pressing OPTION, there only remain 2 options, the bootcamp windows, and the recoveryHD.I think the cause of this trouble was i used some kind of partition software.

Yesterday I erase the windows partition on my macbook pro through bootcamp.
Then I restart my mac and it tell me "no bootable device ...". If I press alt button during the starting, I can see my mac partition, but when I choose it, it's impossible to access.
Unfortunately my Leopard install disk doesn't work anymore (really really strange, it's perfect without any scratch) and I can only use a old tiger disk. So I can see that it's no more present any startup disk!!! Bootcamp deleted my mac startup disck.
Through the terminal I can see that alls my data are presents!
Suggestions? I guess the only way to restore my mac it's to buy snow leopard and re-install the system saving the data.

I've read around saying most cases you need to update Video Drivers. Since I'm on a Mac with Windows 7 in bootcamp it's not that simple, I think? Should I just put in Mac cd to install drivers again or any method to fix a disappearing Windows 7 start bar in bootcamp? It happens every time I boot into Windows now.
