OS X Technologies :: Mail Is Not Working With AOL - Error "connection To Port 993 As Timed Out"?
Apr 2, 2012
My Mail is no longer working with AOL. I keep getting a message saying that my "connection to port 993 as timed out". I cannot find a way to reactivate this connection. PLEASE HELP someone! I am going mad with this problem.
today i found that Mail has stopped working for no obvious reason. It wont send or receive emails, but when i check by signing into .mac itself, the messages have arrived and everything appears normal.Mail won't quit either... then every so often a box with the following text appears:'Some actions taken while the account 'enter.mac address here' was offline could not be completed online.Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox "on my mac" in "on my mac" so that you can complete the actions while online.Additional information: The connection to the server "mail.mac.com" on port 143 timed out.
I have two gmail accounts set up with Mail, but as of yesterday, neither will work. I get a connection failed error (port 993 timed out). I've triple checked all my settings and everything is fine. nothing changed, so i don't understand why it won't work. also, mail has been acting strange overall. if i want to quit it, i have had to force quit it with finder because it won't close on its on.
Why am I suddenly getting an error message : The server returned the error: The connection to the server “p02-imap.mail.me.com” on port 993 timed out.? I add/edit SMTP servers. Am receiving emails, but can't send from imap acct.
my e-mail tries to connect but keps spinning. then error message says connection to server could be in timed out. the internet is working fine. e-mail was working fine until it just stopped.
My email is not receiving new messages and keeps asking me for my key password and says The connection to the server - mail.mac.com - on port 993 timed out.
I have my Gmail account set up for IMAP, and use it in Mail. However, as of this morning, Mail can't connect to either the IMAP server or the SMTP server. Whenever I try to connect to the IMAP server, it gives me the following error:
"The server '[URL]' refused to allow a connection on port 993."
I've checked repeatedly and all of my settings are as the Gmail website says they should be. Does anybody have any idea how to fix this?
So I recently moved into a new apartment with my 2 roommates, one of which has a macbook, while the other has a desktop that is plugged directly into the router. My macbook roomie has no issues with the WiFi. I, however, have been having numerous issues. It mostly seems to be with posting things, sending emails, logging into websites, and playing videos. 9/10 times I can't post topics onto message boards or update my facebook status. My Gmail almost always works well, while my college email can't send a thing. On twitter I often cannot load the next set of tweets. I was trying to order a textbook online today, I added to cart, and when I went to complete the checkout, the connection timed out. I can do all of these things, however, on the WiFi network on campus at school. Basically what I'm asking is, is this a problem on my end that I can fix? I doubt that the problem lies with our internet providers, because I can have my laptop side by side with my roommates, and he has no issues.
in Mail when trying to send a message: The server returned the error: The connection to the server “mail.comcast.net” on port 995 failed (error 1: Operation not permitted)
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), upgraded to Lion 10.7.4
Every time I put the code in for my iTunes gift card, I get the following message:Your session has timed out. Try again. In delving into my accounts, I'm so confused by all the different ID's, email addresses, I've reset (unintentionally) my password more times than I care to remember. My iTunes is a mess; is it possible to delete accounts? I'm ready to delete all and start fresh, but I have such a nice collection of songs that I've purchased.
I am having issues with my Dual Band 1TB time capsule for some reason the damn ports won't forward I have enabled the correct settings with the ip address and the ports, but when I use a program to test if the ports are open they are always closed, regardless on pc or mac. Does anyone have a solution to this? I even reset my Time capsule to see if it would work, but no luck.
I'd like to know if it is possible to detect if something is attached to the serial port.
I have two USB uart which are connected to my mac mini. They are recognized by the serial port as "usbmodem" and then a number. I'd like to restart my computer is the Mac doesn't see them both.
In my office,we have three Wi-Fi connection A,B,C.I had connected them in store the password in keychain. For now,i want to create a applescript to auto connect them by one click.Like i click application A,then it will help me to connect to A Wi-Fi and so on.

I used the MacRumors Buyer's Guide for several months to find the best time to buy a MacBook. I'd never had a Mac before and found it to be so valuable. I hope someone in the forum can be as helpful as the site has been.
Yesterday I bought a new MacBook Pro 13" and as a store option the RAM was doubled to 4GB. Everything has worked well so far, in both OS X and Windows XP through Boot Camp, except for either OS accessing the LAN cable on my home ADSL. Both my portable modem (EMobile network in Japan) and the wireless seem to work with no issue, and both OS will recognize the ethernet port. I'm concerned that perhaps the ethernet adapter was modified when the store installed the memory.
I can remove the ethernet cable from one computer (where it works without any settings changes on my Windows notebook) and plug the same cable into the MacBook and it will not be recognized. The Mac OS error is that no cable is inserted.
However, as it's my first Mac, I didn't know if perhaps some new settings are required to make things work smoothly. Is there any DNS settings etc. that must be set for it to connect? Also is there some kind of connection diagnostic that will specify the location of the error in the machine? I'd like to exhaust any option before shipping this back to the store to be repaired or replaced.

I'm using the mdimport command in my shell script to force spotlight to index a folder.
Here is the code statement in my script that uses the mdimport command:
thefolder=`pwd`# Force Spotlight to index the foldermdimport "$thefolder" Whenever I run my shell script, I get this error : (Error) ImportPluginLoading: Couldn't load plugin 'Spotlight/Google%20Earth.mdimporter/ -- file://localhost/Users/test/Library/Internet%20Plug-Ins/Google%20Earth%20Web%20P lug-in.plugin/Contents/MacOS/Google%20Earth%20for%20Plugin.app/Contents/Library/ 'What is this error? Why is the Google Earth plugin getting loaded when I didn't ask for it?
I used to use the following script to set album ratings of albums in my iTunes library. It used to work fine, but now it's not working. When I try to debug it I am getting the following error:
[code]...
Info:Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 8GB RAM
I'm updating an Automator workflow for OS X Lion that I initally developed and used, without issue, in OS X Tiger. The workflow asks for a name, creates a folder for the name, takes a digital image with a Nikon D50 connected to the computer, and saves the image to the new folder. This aspect of the workflow works fine.
I then have a prompt asking if we should take another. If the user says "yes," the script should take another image and save it to the folder. This is where I run into an issue. When I attempt to add another "Take a Picture Action" into the workflow, I get the cryptic (at least to me) error message in the attached screenshot.
Here's the text:
"Cannot update for observer <AMWorkflow 0x400458ac0> for the key path "parameters.name" from <TakePicture 0x403e3b0a0>, most likely because the value for the key "parameters" has changed without an appropriate KVO notification being sent. Check the KVO-compliance of the TakePicture class."
The language of this error would seem to indicate a bug.
I have the following script that worked just fine last year, but since upgrading the OS it no longer works as it should. First it only scales and save the first image file of a batch to the 'Photos' folder and does not scale and save any to the 'Thumbs' folder.
The following Applescript segment works in Snow Leopard and fails in Lion with "AppleEvent handler failed. number -10000" tell application "Mail"set new mail sound to "Glass"end tell In addition, the Apple-supplied, Mail Applescript for gathering Mail information "Display All Accounts and Preferences.scpt" fails (again with "AppleEvent handler failed. number -10000") on the line set displayString to displayString & my formatFields("New mail sound", new mail sound) & return
The Console Log reports the following error.
Mail: [<MailApp 0x7fd6a9e009a0> setValue:forUndefinedKey:]: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key newMailSound. The Mail Applescript property "new mail sound" appears not to be recognized correctly. I do not have any Mail plugins. Several additional sounds have been added to the system sound set. Mail reports no problems using them.
Under Snow Leopard, I used the same Applescripts (fired off by iCal) which turned on/off Mail's New Mail Sound depending on the time of day, i.e. I set the new mail sound to be "Silent Alert" in the evening and restored it to my default new mail alert in the morning. Any guidance as to what might be wrong and how to solve this problem would be very welcome.
I'm getting this error message today: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “iCloud” or try again. The server returned the error: The server “imap.mail.me.com” cannot be contacted on port 993. should the port or server address be changed?
