Does one have to install a base Java before running this update, or is it a full installer?

What has been released to install as a security update? I seem to be clicking on one web link which takes me to another and nothing to actually install. Typical Apple. Really wish I hadn't bought this MacCrap Air - I do miss my PC.

I am running OS 10.5.8 on an iMac. There is no security update issued for this operating system - it only covers 10.6. Is my comuter vulnerable? Do I need to do anything?

I can't install Java update, not via 'software update', nor via download from Apple support site. Always get error message at 'writing scripts', even with the camera update. Same thing happens when trying to re-install Adobe flash-player, which I had uninstalled after virus threat. Seems I can't install anything anymore. I had previously uninstalled everything Java in Safari and run Mackeeper duplicate eraser.

When I attempt the update, I get the following error:"The Update "Java for OS X 2012-003" can't be installed. The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs." This is on a new Mac Mini (purchased in April 2012) that has been kept updated with all other software updates. I have tried to do this update several times over the last several days with the same error. The computer has been powered off/restarted several times, no effect.I have checked for the Flashback malware, not on my system.

I have problems since applying the latest security Update 2009-001 and Java 10.5 Update 3, I have 10.5.6 on the new unibody 2.4ghz and have completely lost the ability to connect to my wireless access point which is an apple airport extreme base station.
I can sometimes se the base station but cannot connect to it and sometimes cannot see it at all. I have three other apple computers at home all less then a year old running the same build of 10.5.6 but have not updated them and they all are fine.
This one was perfect untill I applied the update.
The machine I am having problems with is partitioned with windows 7 beta on it which has no problems connecting to the base station, which indicates that its not a hardware problem but more then likely the update which is causing the problem.
Is there a way to uninstall the last update or delete it? Any one with a similar problem or know how I can fix it, I have googled but cannot seem to find anyone with similar problems.

After updating, there's a java error when using my browsers. I've downloaded and installed as directed and it's still giving me the error.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried software update, I've tried downloading the update and installing it manually... no matter what I do, my machine is always running 1.5 when I need 1.6.
Code:
java -version
java version "1.5.0_20"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_20-b02-315)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_20-141, mixed mode, sharing)
How can I get my machine to find the 1.6 version and use it permanently?
I'm running an intel iMac Core 2 Duo from a few months back. I installed the most recent security update for Mac OS X Leopard and after the reboot the computer worked fine for 2 more boots.
(Note: during these boots I noticed that often my computer would get the spinning rainbow wheel for a long time before it went away. It happened at apparently no prompting.)
After those I installed the game City of Heroes on my macintosh and then attempted to install the new safari and Java update (I haven't updated in a while.)
I was told the Java update and safari update failed to install. I rebooted to try again and attempted to install again. Both failed.
I gave up and started playing CoH. About 2 hours after playing my game froze. I was running ventrillo at the same time and was able to talk on that.
After many failed tries to use command + option + escape I decided to hold down the power button to reboot my computer. The first attempt yielded a solid blue screen.
The second attempt the computer started fully. Stupidly I assumed the problem was fixed and didn't backup software and files.
I tried to run City of Heroes again and the app would not even show up in dock. It simply would not run. All other apps seemed to work fine.
I rebooted again and this time I got another blue screen. Again, but this time I got the grey screen with the apple symbol and the spinning wheel. I've never gotten past this screen again.
I have boot camp so I tried to boot into windows. Windows booting was successful. After that I rebooted and attempted to use the advice from this thread for help: [URl] I tried the single user mode fix first. I got the message:
/dev/rdisk0s2
Root file system
Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Incorrect block count for file temp3271201
(it should be 8 instead of 0)
Keys out of order
(4, 966)
Rebuilding Catalog B-Tree.
The volume Ben's Computer could not be repaired.
FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED
After that I tried to reset PRAM. Still the grey apple with the spinning wheel. I tried the single user start up again. Again failed.
After that I tried booting into safe mode. Using these steps: [URL] Unfortunately, NONE of these ways would let me boot into safe mode. Both left me at the same grey apple icon and spinning grey wheel.
I would appreciate help SO much. Even if the only fix is to get a new computer any advice would help me. If I need to somehow reformat or such then if anyone might know how I could backup my settings and applications with this impediment.
I can't upgrade iTunes. When I try to download I get a message" Can't find fileCoreFPI.pkg. My iphone won't sync. My Java update gives the message can't find JavaFor MacOSX.6 pkg.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I noticed they're is an update for java today and want the update. It ask me for my password and I type it in and it says invalid. User name is there already when it prompts me. I restarted my mini to see if the keyboard might have been acting weird, but still not working.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that when i try to update java to version 6 it never shows up on software update. when i go to the java website it says to do it via software update. Because of this i haven't been able to play runescape because it runs on java 6 but i only have java 5.0. So why doesn't java 6 show up when i search for new software on software update? Is it even possible for my mac to run java 6?

In order to be safe from the Java virus, can I use the update for 10.6 on 10.5.8? Or is there an update for 10.5 somewhere?

As above really! Its really frustrating. It bounces in the dock as though it is about to start. It then brings up a box that asks if I would like to report it to Apple, which naturally I do.Â
My friend suggested uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its no good!Â
Its ever since the update to Java. Anyone else had similar problems?Â

Java won't operate or update. Looked in preferenes and coudln't see that Java was disabled. Tried to use a program with Java required and it said it was either disabled or not updated.

As when he was updating it to the latest java due to this Trojan, the computer crashed, he shut it down, but it will not reastart.Â
