I currently operate in the dark ages with OS X Tiger. I would like to upgrade to lion and need advice on the most economical way to accomplish this. Is there a "box set" that allows skipping steps?

Recently I have connected my phone to try and synchronise it because I had some new music that I would like to put on it. Unfortunately, when I connected and tried to sync I immediately found something odd because my sync did not do the full 4 steps but only 2, being : starting sync and looking for tracks to sync.
I later discovered that for some odd reason iTunes said there was not enough space on my iPhone to sync my music with, even though there is over 10GB left of space. I read a similar problem where the iTunes wanted to re-sync the full library with the iPhone if it sensed that it was not the usual iPhone it did an initial sync with. However, that's not true. I am using the iPhone I've always used and this Mac's one and only hardware it's ever synced with is my iPhone. So I don't understand why iTunes would want to re-sync my full library.
Furthermore, I only want to add around 20 soungs to my iPhone, which definitely does not take 10GB and the main issue is that without any recent updates or changes or anything, my sync only does two steps anymore and says there isn't enough capacity on my phone to sync it with. I unchecked "sync Music" to try and lower the space, pressed Apply but now it won't even sync my Music back anymore.

I bought a sapphire radeon HD 4870 that was flashed with mac firmware. I've never installed a video card before. Do I just turn the machine off, put in the card, and boot up? Or do I need to install drivers before I put in the card? Also, which card slot do I put it in?

Can someone explain to me why resetting PRAM on a machine has any effect whatsoever for networking issues? ie; self assigned ip etc. I have noticed this is a common troubleshooting step that a lot of people are recommending for issues related to networking.

I have a new mac mini server that I need to properly setup. It has 2 identical 500GB hard drives which should be mirroring each other so that in case 1 fails I have a backup. From what I read seems I need to enable RAID 0. This system brings no optical drive so I have to network a iMac to this machine to install the necessary software I will have on the server. I can't open Mail. When i try the whole "Welcome to Mail - you'll be guided through the necessary steps to set up your mail account" message comes up. It's been working perfectly fine, so I just don't get it.
I've used disk utilities to repair permissions etc and have re-booted...I've even closed it down and un-plugged it and then booted up again, but to no avail. I'm running OS 10.4.11.
The only thing I can think of that would cause something like this is that the computer wouldn't wake from it's sleep mode when I tried to turn it on earlier, so I pressed the off switch at the back to shut it down and to open it again.
I followed the steps outlined in [URL]to move my Snow Leopard's MobileMe mail account to an iCloud account in the Mail app (deleted the old MobileMe account from the sidebar and followed the steps to create a new one for [URL]. Before doing that, I had gone online and changed my very old AppleID's password so that it conformed to the new requirements. I also set up the MobileMe in System Preferences to be using that new password. It seems to be happy with the new setup/password.
I can get my iCloud mail on my iPad and on my MBAir when I use Safari. But the Mail app continues to loop, asking me to enter my password -- and then informing me that "The MobileMe IMAP server "imap.mail.me.com" rejected the password for user [URL]I compared my Mail settings for the new iCloud account to what's given in the instructions and cannot spot anything amiss.

When I type something, there are times when my cursor will spontaneously skip to another location. As an example: if I am typing this, the cursor might jump to the subject title area.I have been very careful to not touch the trackpad and still have this trouble. I posted this problem some time ago, but had no help or information about this at all. It is getting quite frustrating and I am hoping that someone out there will have a clue about this and perhaps a solution.
My early `08 mac pro has been having problems with it's superdrive, will not burn DVD's, and it's skipping on burning CD's. Can anyone recommend a good replacement drive.

Every time I would click or do something while a video was streaming (on Hulu for example) I would get a slight stutter in the video.I have all updates installed. I know many of you use Mac Mini's to stream media to your televisions. I don't understand why I've experienced these problems with three different computers. I suppose it may be a Flash problem? Just looking for tips. I noticed it again today when I tried to stream something on CNN.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo my cousin wrote up a 10-page paper and he included some pictures and stuff.
He needs to add a title page and it has to have a header of '1', but for some reason I can't figure this out and neither can he. When he presses ENTER/RETURN to open up a free page at the top, it moves the texts down but not the pictures.
So what I'm trying to do now is make a blank document for the title page and put the page count there and just print that off, but NOW I need to know how to start the page count at 2, instead of 1, on the actual body of the essay.
(Btw, I have tried to do just about everything. When I copied the entire doc to paste it after the title page on a new document, it didn't even copy the pictures.)
i'm running VLC on both mac and on windows on my macbook. My VLC on mac skips around once every minute and a half. its barely noticeable but i notice it and it bothers the hell out of me. Mplayer does the same thing.

any song i listen to in itunes skips horribly! also, the audio from any movie file i play in either quicktime or VLC has the same problem.
i have updated all three programs to the current version.
i tried disabling my login items as recommended by some advice i found by googling, but this didn't work either.
i also made a new admin account to see if the problem would still occur on a fresh account and it did.
i don't know what else to do. what could be causing this problem?
might it be hardware related? i don't know how to check for that.
i try to play .ogm files on my mac but it keeps skipping.
