OS X Technologies :: Is Python & A Bunch Of Libraries Already On Mahine

Jun 5, 2012

I'm ready to upgrade from scraperwiki to running Python on my own machine, for purposes of webscraping for journalism. Which is exciting but difficult for the likes of me.Is Python & a bunch of libraries already on my mahine? usr/lib has a lot of promising-looking items listed, like python2.7 and about 50 files ending in .dylib.usr/lib/python2.7 has another 50 or so files ending in .pyc and .pyo So, if so, how do I call my_script.py? Where to save it, how to call it? Where to install Python modules(?)/libraries(?) like mechanize or beautifulsoup?

Software :: Upgrading Python In Mac OS X 10.4

Sep 14, 2009

I recently upgraded python on my mac from the version it was shipped with (python2.3) to python2.5. The installation was easy as I used the .dmg file. But now I want to use setuptools and I have to create a file in the /usr/lib/python2.5 which does not exist. How do I upgrade this as at the moment I have /usr/lib/python2.3. It is probably very trivial but I am having a nightmare understanding all these installation folders of python in mac. And the instructions in [URL] are assuming I have the right version there.

Software :: Run Script With Python Version 2.3?

Jan 26, 2009

Have a script on my server which was working fine before I upgraded to leopard, now there are some warnings:
RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module rand: This Python has API version 1013, module rand has version 1012. import rand, crypto, SSL, tsafe

Then an error about an 'int' object not having the attribute '__name__'

I can see that version 2.3 is installed as well as 2.5, wondering is there anyway that I can direct the script to run on the 2.3 framework?

Tried setting a link to 2.3 but that didn't seem to work.

Software :: Where To Find Leopard's Python For Reinstall?

Sep 25, 2008

I get the following error when running the xattr command under Leopard (10.5.5): Code: % xattr test.doc
zsh: /usr/bin/xattr: bad interpreter: /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/Resou: no such file or directory I presume that this is occurring because of an error in the installed version of python on my system, and I'm looking to reinstall it.

Does anyone know where I can go to find the official, Apple-supported package for Python under 10.5.5, so I can download and reinstall it? I've searched and I can't seem to find this.

OS X Mavericks :: After Upgrade From Snow Leopard - Python 3.3 Scripts Fail

Jul 1, 2014

After upgrade to Mavericks 10.9.3 from Snow Leopard my Python3.3 scripts, called through a shellscript, fail. They work fine when called from Python 3.3 in Terminal. The issue appears to be the path. Currently Python 3.3 is located in /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.3, whereas all the other installations are in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/..., and include v2.3, v2.5, v2.6 & v2.7, plus a "Current" folder alias. I read somewhere that simply adding the new path was not advisable. If that is true, what's the best way to include other version.

OS X :: Way To Rename A Bunch Of Files At Once?

Jan 3, 2010

I have a folder with a TON of photos. I have a bunch of photos I want to put into that folder but a bunch of the filenames are the same. Normally with a few photos I would just rename the file but there's way too many.

Is there any way to rename the files or do something so I can copy the new photos into my photo folder without any overwriting going on?

OS X :: Why Bunch Of Login Items Listed

Apr 23, 2009

I just noticed (I never really looked before) a bunch of login items listed that mostly I don't know their purpose. The logitech control center for my bluetooth mouse is there. That makes sense as to connect my mouse at startup. But I have something called 'Airport Base Station Agent' and iTunesHelper' and a couple of other do-dads for a couple of other small apps (Rogue Amoeba Schedule Help, for ex.) that I have no idea why they should be 'starting' when I log in, nor are they something I even notice when I login in. Are they some kind of background process goings on I don't know of? If I toss this stuff, would it hurt anything? For example, is that Airport agent thing an important background utility that's needed for my computer to connect to its wireless on startup or what?

MacBook :: Screen Goes All Fuzzy With A Bunch Of White Lines On It?

Aug 27, 2010

Since yesterday, my screen has been acting really wierd. Every few hours, the screen goes all fuzzy with a bunch of white lines on it, and it becomes completely unusable. It only happens for a few seconds each time (fortunately, it's fine right now), but it's kinda got me worried because I need to keep this computer for 2 more years before getting a new one, and I can't afford to fix it. I can't stop using it because I need it for school, so if it breaks, I'm completely screwed.

PowerPC :: IMac G5 (First Gen) Screen Fills With Bunch Of Lines

Mar 30, 2009

I'm looking for some information and possible repair tips for my cousins iMac G5 (First Gen) 1989. I don't know anything about mac's, I've always been a PC user. But, I recently fixed both my aunt's laptop and desktop (both pc), so my cousin asked if I would take a look at her mac, as well. Basically, when the iMac is turned on, the screen goes weird. It fills with a bunch of lines (both horizontal and vertical), some spanning the entire length of the screen, and some being only about half an inch long. The lines don't stay stable, they flicker and change positions every few seconds. Behind the lines, you can see the black screen with the apple on it.

It doesn't seem to get past this point though, it seems to freeze and never leave the apple screen, although the flickering lines continue to change. I tried jiggling and moving the power cord around, and whenever I moved it the lines on the screen seemed to change positions. I also tried taking hold of the sides of the monitor (machine? I have no idea what mac-speak for anything is) and very gently pressing and "twisting", and this changed the lines as well, at one point it turned to all vertical lines spanning the entire length of the screen. We opened it up to see if any wires were loose inside or anything, but there really weren't any exposed wires that I could see that I could even try to tighten/adjust. Right now it's not even usable.

Mac Pro :: Put A Sony Lightscribe Optical Drive & Encountered Bunch A

Apr 5, 2009

When I Put A 20X Sony Lightscribe Drive In The Secondary Optical Bay I Attached The Power And The IDE, I Checked To See If The Drives Were Initialized They Were Not Even Recognized.....The New Sony As Well As The Apple Stock Drive In The First Bay It Was Like I had Removed Both Of Them! I Then Took Out The Apple Stock Optical And Put The New Sony Lightscribe Drive In Its Place, Leaving Only The One New Sony Drive In The Pro, It Was Recognized By The System However Would Not Open Due To The Fact That The Opening On The Mac Was To Small For The Shelf Of The Drive To Open. It Was Blocked! WTF!

I Instantly Thought I Must Have Messed Up The Install, However I Thoroughly Checked It Over And There Is Really No Way For Me To Mess It Up. Due To Where The Screws Line Up. It's Not Possible To Screw Up! No Pun intended. So Whats Left Now? I Thought These Optical Drives Where Like Internal Hard Drives, USB's And Blank Disks...They Have Standard Dimensions For ALL CPU"S I Did not know that there are incompatible optical drives! Does Anyone Know A: What Drives Are Compatible With The Xeon Mac Pro?

MacBook Pro :: Screen Goes Blank Randomly - A Bunch Of Weird Lines Appear?

Sep 7, 2010

In the past month, my Macbook pro, which I have had since May 2009, has started to act very strange.

Sometimes when I watch videos online (collegehumor, youtube, etc.), or am just working on my laptop, the screen stops working. It goes mostly black, and a bunch of weird lines appear on the screen.

The system hasn't crashed or froze, since I can still see my mouse because one little line follows its movement, and the audio still works, and I can still Command + Q and exit out of programs.

I think the problem may have been that I slipped on the stairs one day holding my Macbook Pro and may have damaged the screen somehow, but I just want to know if this has happened to somebody else with their MBP, and what caused it?

OS X :: Spaces Options - Load Up A Forum Page With A Bunch Of Photos

Dec 20, 2010

I'm wondering if there is a setting to fix this.I have all sixteen spaces enabled. I tend to keep web browsers open on at least three or four of them. Let's say I load up a forum page with a bunch of photos, and pop off to another space to do something else. Well, as that forum page loads (slowly due to all the photos), Spaces will automatically take me back to that space every few seconds. I switch away, it switches right back. Very annoying.Likewise, if I had a news site open in a browser, and it does one of those auto-reloads every five or ten minutes or whatever, Spaces takes me back to that space. I don't WANT to go back; let the damn pages reload, but leave me alone to keep working. I'll go back when I'm ready.

Windows On Mac :: Unable To Login As Admin / Screen Goes Black And Gives Bunch Of Options

Jun 18, 2009

Alright, I FINALLY got windows on my mac and am very proud of myself. However, I am encountering what I hope is a final problem.

I want to log into Windows as an admin, so when it starts up I hit F8. The screen goes black and gives me a bunch of options, I choose "Safe Mode". Everything so far works like it should. But then the log screen appears with two options: Admin and my regular user. Obviously I want admin, but my keyboard and mouse are utterly nonresponsive , even the little caps light won't turn on. This means I'm stuck there, staring at what I want to click but unable to do so. The only button that works is the power button.

Anyone else run into this? More importantly, anyone know how to fix it?

PowerPC :: Display Has Bunch Of Parallel Vertical Lines Running Down / Wifi Card Pooped Out

Oct 8, 2008

So tomorrow I'm going to be getting a Powerbook G4 from a friend. He says there are two problems with it.

1. The Graphics. I haven't seen it personally, but he says every time the laptop starts up, the display has a bunch of parallel vertical lines running down it. Is this a hardware issue, and is it easy to replace? Or can an update fix it? I wonder because isn't the integrated graphics mounted on the logic board?

2. The WiFi Card. I remember the day he got it, we both say the WiFi worked like a charm. One day, it pooped out on us. Now, the only way for internet is by ethernet. Did something possibly unhook from it, or is it a bad card? Once again, a possible update for it?

I won't know for certain until I get this laptop tomorrow. I will post updates when I can physically check it out. Also, this laptop is an older one, so no warranty or AppleCare on it. It is also running Leopard, but I doubt it is updated to the latest.

OS X :: Mac With Three Different Libraries - Difference?

Jun 13, 2010

I have used mac for some years now, and know the OS well, but there is something that always has confused me: There are three different libraries in OS X. the first is: Macintosh HD>Library - the second: Macintosh HD>User>Library - and i recently noticed a third: Macintosh HD>System>Library. The reason this annoys me is because, as everyone know, there's often programs asking you to delete files from the library etc. I know i could just search for the right directory but still... kind of annoying, and a bit confusing at times. So why do Mac OS X have three different libraries and what are the difference between them?

ITunes Libraries All Don't Work

May 13, 2012

Upon opening iTunes this morning, it took upon itself the job of "importing" something from I have no clue, labeled my library as "damaged", created a new one that had most of my stuff missing with no playlists, and now I can't import an old library or open any sort of iTunes library from anywhere.iTunes is version 10.6.1 (7)Is it some sort of version of iTunes that I can't run on OS 10.5? I'm waiting for the fall rollout to get a new machine, there is no reason to update my OS, it does everything I need now.I have a Time Machine backup. Do I need to download a completely new copy of iTunes and then try to restore out of Time Machine? Has Apple updated iTunes into yet another version that has no added value to me, yet I have to cope with all the advertising trash loaded into it (read: Genius, Ping)? How do I get my library back along with a version of iTunes that works?
