When i try to select an standard Apple screen saver in my preference panel it crashes. I can select screen savers that i imported myself.Anyone got some ideas what might causing this?i got this crash report.

I had done a full check up and there is no problem with the systems hardware ie.. Ram.Â

I'm using a MacBook Pro (Penryn) running Leopard. Every time I try and change my wallpaper in system preferences, it crashes and asks me if I'd like to report it to Apple. It eventually gave me the "would you like to reset settings and relaunch" dialogue. Still continuously crashes. I just want to change my damn wallpaper and this is annoying me to no end.

When I choose the Desktop/screensaver option in the system pane, it unexpectedly quits. I can see that my screensaver is set to "Never". It will not let me click on "Desktop". To help trouble shoot the issue, I made another login account with the default settings - and the system pane works. I am able to test the screen savers, ect.Is there a way to copy the files/setting from the new login in to the old?

Something has happened in my Network preferences and I believe it happened while doing a Spotlight search. When I open the Network preference window, I get an almost instant error dialogue stating "Your Network settings have been changed by another application". As soon as I hit "OK" to dismiss the dialogue box, it comes right back. If I'm really quick, I can get back to the main preferences screen before the warning reappears. I've tried logging out, rebooting, trashing the Library --> Preferences --> apple.networkConfig.plist file (followed by a log-out) and nothing has made a difference.

I have Keychain's status displayed on the menu bar with its lock icon. When I select Lock Screen it shuts off my display. I don't want that. I want it to go straight to the screen saver when I select Lock Screen.

The problem is that when I go to system and prefrences/ screensavers, I can't find them. I can find them in finder, and click "open with system and preferences", and system and preferences will open, but won't list my screensaver. They are .saver files and are for mac os x.

That way you could close the window without having to select it first. On a side note, they added the ability to close a finder window by right clicking on it when its minimized in the dock, but this appears to be a feature that is left up to the developer of the ap to include (all the other aps don't have a close menu)

I am having a problem with System Preferences freezing up when selecting Desktop & Screen Saver. Everything else on the system works fine. I loaded a picture on the Macintosh HD Device (all other pictures are under a specific user account) to access it as a desktop background. The correct picture appears as the desktop background, but I want to change the picture. As soon as I select Desktop & Screen Saver under System Preferences the window freezes. The only way to unfreeze is to select something else on the Dock (which doesn't magnify as it normally does), then close that and go to back to System Preference and then close it. Or select something else from the dock and then Force Quit the Systems Preferences.
I will get an error message and the problem details (which I know VERY little about) show an Exception Type:
EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) and
Exception Code: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS
If that helps.
I tried sending the picture to the trash and then reloading it, but that didn't help either.
I have a late 2009 Mac Mini with 8GB of OCZ 1333 RAM and an Intel X25-M 160GB SSD. Running 10.6 fully updated and installed from scratch.I have been getting out of the blue crashes while the system is most of the times idle. Can it be the RAM? It's reported fine as 8GB 1333 DDR under the system info. The Intel SSD runs latest firmware.

I tried using a couple third party screensavers. Followed the instructions by dragging the .saver file into the screensaver folder in my library, but cannot retrieve the screensaver itself in system preferences.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook, Mac OS X 10.5.8.I got it for long time, and I never use Expose because I dont really need to, but I was bored and I used it only for trying, so there was6 squares, 2 columns and 3 rows, I marked one for photoshop another for lightroom and another for system pref etc.but then I erased on column and a window pop up and said something and I did not read it, click ok and I closed (stupid) system preference window and so now gone, I can't make it appear for canceling Exposè¬ I tried what I looked up in internet using:Fn+f9 or fn+f10, the window is marked as if its open, If I minimze it, it appears in the dock, I tried moving down into the squares of expose and does not appear, I tried leaving the click button on the dock of system pref and wont appear and I tried to hide everything except system preference but still i can't see the window, i can not even change the time of any other thing from there.
