On every account on my Mac, when I open System Preferences, then click Accounts, it stays on Loading Accounts and if I click it again, it says System Preferences quit unexpectedly. I have tried deleting cache, logging out and in, rebooting.

I'm running Mac OS 10.4.11 on an iBook and for some reason, when I select Accounts in the System Preferences, I get nothing but a blank screen. I can't manage the accounts since I can't see the accounts to manage or any of the settings. I threw away the cache and restarted System preferences to see if that would help. It says "Loading Accounts..." but it never loads the that system preference. If I click it again, it comes up blank again and the cache is regenerated. This machine was purchased used and I don't have the OS disks to relaod the system.

Recently, I switched jobs, and therefore the Exchange account was discontinued (i.e. my user was deleted from the server, emails bounce). BUT I cannot remove this obsolete account from my System Preferences > Internet Accounts. It drives me crazy. Whenever I hit the "-" minus button, the account disappears, but whenever I open Internet Accounts again, it's right back in its place. Apple Mail keeps complaining that it "cannot connect to the server", but won't let me delete the account.Â

I'm having a strange problem with my MacBook. I'm dual monitoring, and yesterday the screen on my actual MacBook went to the blue apple background instead of the BMW M Coupe I had as the background. Strange, but I didn't really care. Then today, I decide to change the background on the 21". I try and change it once and System Preferences crashes and I relaunch it. Now when I click on a new background it doesn't work and it spikes my CPU a bit. These wallpapers were downloaded off of a forum (downloaded each of them individually) and originally resided on my desktop (icons) but then I moved them to my HD. Thats when the problem started. Is my CPU supposed to spike when my HD is being used (searching for something in finder)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else found that their screensaver system preferences pane crashes to the desktop when you try to access it? Ever since I upgraded to 10.5.6 I have had this problem. My screensaver is now just a black screen and I can't change it because the preference pane crashes everytime. Spaces, expose and dashboard seem to now only work when they want and its not very often. I have reinstalled 10.5.6 using the combo update to see if that fixes things but it doesnt. I have been send all the crash reports to Apple. This is REALLY getting me mad now! Im on a PMG5 dual 1.8. Never had any problems with it until 10.5.6 came along. I have an ATI X800XT could the update of the ATI stuff in 10.5.6 be causing all this crap? I am reluctant to do a clean install because it will take me days to get all my apps back and how I have them set up now plus I don't think it will make the slightest bit of difference as the combo update hasn't.

I have recently noticed that all of my accounts have become Standard accounts. I no longer have Administrator privileges for my computer (MacBook). I tried going through Root to change my normal account back to Administrator but according to my accounts preference pane even my Root account is listed as standard. I can check the allow user to be an administrator on this computer but it does not save this preference and will un-check once another user is selected or the window is closed.
I have also tried creating a new account through single user mode but again to no avail.How would I go about fixing this problem? I would like to install some new software and some software is no longer working the way it once did since this change.
I have a late 2009 Mac Mini with 8GB of OCZ 1333 RAM and an Intel X25-M 160GB SSD. Running 10.6 fully updated and installed from scratch.I have been getting out of the blue crashes while the system is most of the times idle. Can it be the RAM? It's reported fine as 8GB 1333 DDR under the system info. The Intel SSD runs latest firmware.

I'm having real trouble with a macbook pro once its been bound to Open Directory.
The problem is that when the user logs on, when they set all their display preferences, mouse setting etc once they log off and back on again the settings are back to normal.
Can anyone shed any light on what I need to do to make the prefs stick for each user
I keep getting asked to insert my password for the three accounts I access via mail. I can't get the preferences to save the passwords and can't get the passwords working with the keychain. It seems that keychain isn't accepting passwords since I changed my system from mobile me to icloud. I still have Mac OS X. version 10.6.8. I wish that mobile me was still an option.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was just doing a superduper backup which failed halfway through because i didnt realise my wd passport drive that was plugged in was auto backing stuff up and there must have been a conflict. Now, I dont know what to do. Email accounts.gone. Any registered apps, still there but reg details gone, any and all system preferences (like trackpad setup just came to mind) gone. Dock and all the items in it and crap I made to ,make it look fancy. gone. Stuff that loads at the stuff...gone.
I know this must have to do with my user directory but wtf? I know my timemachine backup is fine as i did one before all the problems, but is my superduperbackup screwed? I cant stress how screwed I am, I got reports due right before xmas and im like at square 1 now.
I have an extensive collection of fonts (60,0000+). Several hundred of them will crash my system when I open one of them in Finder (double-click the suitcase). I picked one at random for some serious examination. I looked at my sample with many font tools. My latest tool was FontDoctor (v5 and v7). FontDoctor reported "no problems found" with my font. Yet the crash persists. Any tool that can do a thorough job of investigating and repairing my corrupt fonts.

could not be sure whether the Admin user - password reset with the CD would be the solution to my question as suggested in previous threads I searched - and have no idea where my start up install CD is
So my question-
I was trying to put parental control to ask for password when my computer starts up. I did something I guess and messed up the info.
I can log in with my own account when I restart my apple - which says now it is a standard account (must have messed that up)- but can not make any changes on system preferences or anything else that requires login and password. It requires Admin info. My own login that I use now used to be my admin so do not have any other info set.
now on system pref - accounts - an account titled "test" seems to be admin but can not even access that and reverse myself to be the admin since I can not unlock system pref. Or cant click on "Login Options" for the same reason.
There are no other users on this computer than me.
What do I need to do to make myself admin again?

I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!
I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?
I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

I'm having an issue with my iMac running 10.5.4. Whenever I try to select a screen saver System Preferences starts to beach ball, and then will crash. Sometimes I can get it to select the screen saver that I want, but then if I try to preview it, System Preferences beach balls, and then crashes. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I signed up for a mobile me trial and I enable mobile me syncing on my iMac, iPhone, my girlfriends macbook and iphone. Now the problem is my imac has her bookmarks and her macbook has mine. We also have each others mail accounts on our computers. How can we change this back the way it was so we don't have each others mail accounts and we each have our own bookmarks on our own computers?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to change the keyboard system preferences or the bluetooth system preferences, the 'application' locks up (Doesn't bring up any details, force quit gets out of it). I've tried leaving it for ages to see if it eventually opens but it doesn't.
This means I can't use any bluetooth devices or change the keyboard shortcuts.
It only happens on one of my otherwise identical Mac Pros; the other is fine.
Any clues as to how to repair it? I tried reinstalling Snow Leopard but that didn't help. I didn't do a clean install though as I'd rather put up with it than make a clean install work with all the apps etc.
In System preferences > Security> Firewall> Advance, I see two iStatLocalDaemon. How come there are two? Is this normal and if not, what is the problem?

View 12 Replies View RelatedEvery time I restart my iMac, my desktop wallpaper reverts back to the default and my mouse configuration is reset so the buttons no longer do what I demand of them (Button4: Expose, I say!)
It seems to be just those two issues but it happens pretty much every time the system shuts down (although not every single time). Energy saving is fine. My dock is fine. Nothing else seems to be touched.
I've reset the PRAM. I've deleted the system preferences file from the library (com.apple.systempreferences...). I've repaired permissions.
I still have this problem.
Any ideas or solutions, aside from reinstalling OS X or not restarting my iMac ever?
I should mention that I'm running 10.5.5 on an Aluminum 2.0 Core 2 Duo Intel iMac. My system is all-natural. No fancy hacks or system modification programs installed here.
I just installed iLife '09 on a fresh install of OS X 10.5.6 and my system preferences icon is gone the spot is there i can still click on it but the icon is gone.
