I'm using a Mac OS X Server ver 10.4.3 and I've installed the Veritas MacOS X agent for remote backup called "be_agnt.tar".
We have been able to run succesful backups for some time now (Using Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers installed on a win2k server) but a few days ago I applied a service pack to the backup exec software (SP4) and now I can't connect to the remote agent from my backup exec server.
This is only true for backups and restores since I still can make selections of what data to backup thru the agent.
The Backup Exec software is able to backup all files on the Windows servers (Both remote and local) but not the XServe. During setup of the backup job I am able to browse all files on the XServe and select which ones I would like to backup. However, when i run the backup job it fales stating that the agent is either not running or not the correct version.
I then went in to test the credentials for the account used to backup the XServe and it passes for the root share and does not attempt to check the credentials on the actual files. When I called Symantec the told me that I had the correct version of the MAC Agent installed and that it will automatically run after installation of the MAC Agent.
I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard and then directly to Lion. How do I restore from a Free Agent external drive back up I made without overwriting the new Lion OS?
i recently got into the habit of watching activity monitor. i have noticed that there is constantly a process called ajax server, and it always says it's not responding. i quit is to see what happens and it came back and was normal for about 30 seconds and then went back to not responding.
i was just wondering what this process was and if it is a cause for concern

It was used very day until it stopped yesterday but I can access the site on my PC network no problem. Its only on my Mac network that it cannot be seen even though all other sites are accessed OK.
Back to My Mac worked in Snow Leopard, now when I check back to My Mac in Icloud settings I get the errort message "server not responding" and it tells me to switch it off and wait 15 seconds before turning it on again.
Apple support pages have no more suggestion than this. The rest of Icloud works fine, just Back to My Mac that is gone
I just used an OSX Server v 10.5.0 DVD to upgrade a computer (1.6 ghz G5 tower, 1.5GB RAM) from osx 10.3.9 server. When I get to the 'Serial number' panel, none of the fields will accept any keyboard input. The keyboards worked prior to the upgrade. They work fine on another mac. The eject, volume, and caps lock keys all work. Just the fields themselves in the Serial Number (and the registered to, and organization) fields are ignoring input.Â

I recent updated to OS X 10.7.3. Since the update I haven't been able to run automatic updates, it tries to run and then comes back: "The Software Update Server (r344.local) is not responding. Check to make sure your network connection is operating normally. If there are no issues with your connection, contact your network administrator for assistance." So I go ahead and click it - It runs a connection test and I am 100% connected to the net. I really need to fix this as since I have updated OS X half my programs wont open without updates.

On my MBP, I get the error "iCloud server not responding" in the iCloud section of System Preferences under Back to My Mac. My Mac Mini doesn't have this issue. Both are running Mavericks and on the same network. I can screen share over wifi but not over the Internet because of the above issue with the MBP.Â
I've spent way to much time with Apple's techs on this. Using another iCloud account doesn't work. Safe mode doesn't work. Using another OS account doesn't work. I do have iCloud setup on my Time Capsule router.Â
Apple Software Update produces following error when checking for new software: software update server (172.22.4.3) is not responding! Is there a way to select a different server?
Internet working OK. Software Update produces the regular display with a dropdown panel containing "The Software Update Server (su.ccukdev.net) is not responding." and two choices "Network Diagnostics" and "Quit". The Network checks out OK.

I have several files that show up as grey squares with a green 'exec' in the upper left hand corner. When I get Info on these files they are indicated to be Microsoft Word files. When I open them in MS Word, they display pages of gibberish random symbols.
1. Lion's (10.7.3) user interface becomes nonresponsive/'freezes': trackpad cursor moves, keyboard can be used for typing, BUT gestures stop working and "Dock" is not responding (it is hidden automatically).Â
2. Tere are frequent "nfs server localhost:/5pBJvp-jULTJrbfF3Hpvc5: not responding nfs server localhost:/5pBJvp-jULTJrbfF3Hpvc5: is alive again" error messages in Terminal while I am running 'find' command.
These error messages seem to be correlated witth the user interface 'freezes'.Â
I have downloaded flxlab2.5alpha for Mac. I need the software for my psychology project. Nothing is happening, when I am trying to open the program (an icon called: flxlab.mac-wrapper (I think that is the correct one). Does anyone have a clue about was is wrong or what I am doing wrong? All of a sudden, when looking at my photos on my external hard drive in a specific folder, all of the folder icons in Finder appear as the black squre with Exec in each square.Â
My G4 died a horrible death, recovered the HD, plugged it in to an imac running OSX, tried to access a folder I really need and it turns out that the thing turned into a .LNK (unix executable file) and I can't open it!
I have saved some of my Mom's writing typed on an iMac G3 and then saved on a G4 iMac. It was then transferred to my new iMac. When I try to open it on my iMac 10.6.8 I get the message-Â

how to backup files to web server? I have my server mounted in Finder/Desktop, and I'm wondering if theres an easy way to make it backup a certain folder similar to Time Machine.
I am doing tech support for a family member, He is running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 on a late-2009 27" iMac, and Time Machine is/was set up on a 2TB LaCie d2 Quadra V3 connected through FW800. He had noticed that Time Machine had not run in a while, so I opened it, and his former Time Machine drive could not be found. It wasn't showing up on the Desktop or in Finder, so I opened Disk Utility to see that it is unmounted. When I tried to mount it, it did nothing. I verified the LaCie drive and it returned no errors. I verified the disk, and it failed and returned "Underlying error: 8: POSIX reports: Exec format error". I tried to repair the disk and it returned the same thing. I am not sure if it has been working since he upgraded to Mavericks. It seems to me that the drive is dead, pre-reformat, but let me know if not. (I am not sure why it would have failed. He doesn't seem to turn off his computer, and I doubt he has unplugged the drive at any point. It may have been running for several years straight, though.) If it's dead, is the data likely recoverable?
is it possible to back up my iMac to my windows pc (which I use as a home file server)? The iMac is running latest version OSX and the PC Windows 7. I've got hard-wired gigabit lan connection trough a few Mac's and my WinPcServer via a gigabit swicht.
I back up my laptop on a backup disk at work (with their permission). I connect to the network, click on my work Mac mini (1.66 Core Duo, 2 GB RAM, OS 10.6.8), and then click on the MiniStack backup drive to mount it on my desktop.But recently I upgraded to Lion and now that's not working. I can see the mini in the Finder sidebar, but when I try to connect to it just says, "Connection failed" and doesn't give a reason.
