since i formatted my MBP and have it fresh now, i used to have a lock key on the menu bar which would lock my MBP. I am currently using the HotCorner to activate my screensaver and then it lock my MBP. anyway i can get that lock sign on the menu bar back?

I recently lost my keys and now I cannot remove the security lock on my macbook. I have been using it for about three years now and am having trouble finding a replacement key. Is there any other way I could possibly get this lock off, besides a locksmith?

I have a belgian azerty keyboard and OS X in english on my white macbook. Is it possible to change the caps lock key's function to shift lock so that it affects the whole keyboard rather than just the letters? I'd like to be able to type numbers without holding shift.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a replacement keyboard on ebay for my MBP and just installed it. It's been about a week, and just today, I noticed the capslock key doesn't work.. I'm not sure if it has been this way, or if it recently just stopped. The light doesn't come on at all.
I was curious if this was a common problem? If not, is their anything I can do as a substitute for caps lock? Another key perhaps? Or, a button on the task bar or something?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've realized that sometimes I "lose" my wireless signal. I am not using an AirPort router (I'm using Linksys, if that's at all helpful). I've noticed that suddenly all of the wireless signals disappear from the AirPort menu up on the menu bar, except the network that I am connected to (i.e., I only see my router's name there). It also becomes impossible for me to browse the internet, so what I've done to troubleshoot this is disable the AirPort, put the computer to sleep, and disconnect/reconnect my router. When I turn it on, it seems to work. I've also tried simply disabling and then re-enabling AirPort, but it doesn't work after that.

However if I look for it under the finder menu bar, the arrow beside service says 'building'. But I've been waiting for hours and it doesn't look like anything's happening.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought myself a Macbook Pro 13-inch model and I've been loving it so far. One thing that really bugs me is how bad the menu navigation is in OS X. I just read this on Macrumors and the only way to access menu from keyboard is by using ctrl+F2 key for which I have to press ctrl+fn+f2 key since F2 is a secondary function. Also, there is no way of going directly to the middle of the menu by keyboard shortcuts, right? If that is true, Mac OS X is still not polished enough for laptops. is there are a better way to control the menu items?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy safari menu bar is missing. The menu bar for desktop, HD, and apps appears, but when I click on Safari, it disappears, so I can no longer see my buttons for History, etc. I think my husband (pc user) clicked it away when borrowing my computer.

After a day of installing and trying/deleting new apps as well as trying terminal tricks from UsingMac.com like these and these, i went up to my apple menu in the menu bar for the first time since i started fiddling around, and it looks like what you see below in the attachment. I have absolutely no idea what made it happen; I'm just wondering if there is a way to reset the menu alone. because instead of having just what it says in the "system services" section in the menu, it has all that other stuff as well (Calculator, FruitMenu, etc.).
P.S.: Fruitmenu isn't even installed. i uninstalled it after i found out it was only a demo.
So basically:
1) how do i restore the main menu in the menu bar back to its original settings?
and 2) I need to do it in a way that wont screw up the rest of my computer or settings
Is There a way to lock your desktop? Something easy done off the keyboard maybe.

I realize that with cold boot attacks, nothing is ever truly secure, but I do want my data more safely protect than with just an EFI and user password. I don't have any particular files on my computer that is pressingly sensitive, so I found truecrypt to be not very useful. I want my computer to generally well protected.

We put a network folder in the sidebar for students to submit their work and kids keep removing it.
It is "unlocked". Every time I click it, it just stays unlocked and won't actually lock. For example, I can't lock it on the "Energy Saver" prefpane, but I can lock/unlock on the Accounts prefpane...

My desktop is kept fairly simple (icons for the various HDs and folders for homework). View 24 Replies View RelatedI just bought my first mac. IMac 20" 4gb ram "aso". I am trying to install Combined Mac os X - update. 10.5.6. (Thats atleast the name for it Directly transformed from norwegian to english) and when i try to run the update it ask me to reboot. I press reboot and it closes all of my programs and the update starts installing , but the progress bar stops when its like 20% finished, I've been waiting for 12 hours and still no progress.
