OS X :: Safari 4.0 Hangs On Familiar Sites
Mar 6, 2009Gave it a try but it seems to hang occasionally on familiar sites. Any hope that the production version will do better?

Applications :: Safari Hangs On Secure Sites?
Jun 8, 2010When I start up Safari and load my home page (google.com/ig) it takes way to long (>30 seconds). After doing some testing I found out that Safari seems to be hanging when I make secure requests. I found that out by removing the Gmail and Google Calendar gadgets from my home page and it loaded right away. But then when I go to gmail.com and log in I have to wait again. Also at that time I can't use any other tabs, they all just sit there and spin like they are loading.
Has anyone else had this issue? I know its a Safari issue because Chrome it just fine. Any ideas?

Jul 13, 2010While navigating around Facebook, Safari continually hangs on Facebook websites beyond the home screen. I'll click a link and it'll go to a white screen and nothing with load. Then, if I try to go back to Facebook.com, it just remains on a white screen. If I load another website, though, it will work fine. I can't seem to get Facebook.com to load again unless I close Safari and reopen. I can use Google Chrome just fine without it hanging on any of the Facebook sites. Any ideas here?

Feb 25, 2009I accidentally clicked the X on the top sites page and the site isn't repopulating on my top sites. Does anyone know how to reset the safari 4 top sites, i have deleted the preference files, reinstalled the software, and trashed my history, but still it wont reset.

Apr 9, 2012I have tried everything that I have read on how to add a site to Top Sites. With two windows open, I try to drag and drop a URL, and the "plus" sign disappears and the URL does not get added to Top Sites. I have tried the top of the page, the sides, the bottom, and the middle where the previews are. It just won't drop. Yes, I've clicked Edit. I've even tried holding the Control, Option, or Command key while dropping.
I have tried adding a site using the Bookmarks, Add Bookmark and choosing Top Sites. When I do this, it does get added to the Top Sites, but when I close and reopen Safari, it is gone - not in Top Sites anymore. I have tried totally re-setting Safari. It does not make any difference. I've tried it on my Mac mini and my MacBook. I can't get it to work with either one. Is there some trick I am missing?

Sep 2, 2009I want to be able to open new tabs automatically when I click in a top site link. At present it only opens the clicked website in the same window/tab. I've tried defaults write com.apple.safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true. This does nothing. It has worked before i updated to Snow Leopard. I must be missing something.

I have sites that are updated multiple times daily, and their thumbnail on the Top Sites page still show what they looked like days ago. I clicked EDIT, then I dragged URLs into the order that I wanted. Then I clicked the BLUE PUSH PIN to save, and clicked DONE. And then it was different the next time I did Command-T.

Safari :: It Just Won't Save My Top Sites
Jul 6, 2012I just reinstalled Lion on my MacBook Pro and everything is great except for one small problem that I can't seem to solve. I'm using Safari 5.1.7 and it just won't save my Top Sites. I deleted the TopSites.plist, rearraganged and repinned the Top Sites as was instructed here and here. The Top Sites do stick for a while but then they change again. I repeated this process several times and they still keep changing.

OS X :: Safari Won't Suggest Bookmarked Sites In The Url Bar?
Aug 28, 2010On my other mac, when I start typing in safari's url bar, it will auto-suggest pages based on the title name of my bookmarked sites (rather than just on the [URL] address url). I just got a brand new MBP and when I start typing in letters into safari's url field, it won't auto-suggest any of the names of the bookmarked pages, it only suggests based on the actual www address. How do I get it to suggest the bookmark's names?
EDIT: On my other machine I have GLIMS installed. Is this a GLIMS' feature? I was under the impression that safari did this itself.
MacBook Pro :: Safari Top Sites Looks Scrambled
Dec 4, 2010I just got the new 15" mbp and noticed that safari top sites would scramble itself at times. I've looked around the net and seems like a normal occurrence for people with the new MBP's. My question is, what is causing it? And how do you get rid of it? Is it just a matter of turning off "automatic graphic switching" so it's running on the discrete nvidia card? Is it a software issue with flash or safari?

Sep 9, 2009Has anybody been having problems with Safari's new Top Sites feature? I've had Safari 4 since the day it came out on public beta, and this feature hasn't seemed to get any better. I seriously dread having to open a new tab, because it automatically opens the awful top sites list. I close my eyes and cross my fingers and pray that I don't get the beachball of death for anywhere from 10-20 seconds. Sometimes it works quickly, especially if I keep testing it over and over. It pretty much just displays a visual of the bookmarks that I already have displayed going across the top of my screen, and I usually just click on the bookmark instead of having to hunt down the page and click on it.

Nov 15, 2009I love safari. Its fast, looks great, and does everything I want it to. Outside of poor flash support (I hear macs in general are just bad for flash) everything works. What I don't like in safari is the top sites feature. I don't mind that it keeps track of which websites i visit most often, but I hate how it takes a little snapshot of every website and saves it in the website preview folder in the cache.
I didn't know you had to manually delete it and when I did it was taking up over 1.5 gb of space (/user/library/caches/com.apple.safari/website previews). I don't understand why apple couldn't have just made top sites show your most commonly visited website (like chrome or opera) and instead had to take on the website previews. Is there a way to disable top sites or at least prevent it from saving previews of websites everytime I use it?

Mar 21, 2012I am using Safari 5.1.4 on my mac OS X 10.7.3.Recently, I had to reset Safari and Empty cache, and since then I am unable to log into some websites (e.g. url... When I enter username and password it fails log in.However, when I enter the same username and password using Chrome, Opera on the same computer and another computer the log in works fine.Other websites are all working fine: such as access to bank, my company's vpn, other user forums, etc.I have done all of the following but none has helped:
1. re-reset Safari and re-emptied cache, restarted computer and restarted Safari
2. deleted com.apple.Safari.plist files, restarted Safari
3.removed photography-on-the-net website login info from KeyChain ans restarted Safari
4.removed all Website data including cookies, and restarted Safari

IMac PPC :: Safari Crashes At Certain Sites?
Apr 28, 2012When newly launched Safari 1.3.2 it launch fine but refuses to access any sites accept apples. It simply crashes with a dialog box asking to contact Apple ( to date no response ) The unit is an Imac 600MHZ with 1G of ram. The issue is a new one. Have had no trouble in prior weeks accessing similar sites.Â

OS X Yosemite :: Time Machine Is Always Missing Its Familiar Green Icon
Dec 9, 2014Ever since upgrading my 2012 Mac Pro to Yosemite, I cannot get the green Time Machine icon to stick. After the first Time Machine backup, which took many hours, the icon suddenly appeared all by itself. Then after a reboot, the icon reverted back to a generic internal hard drive icon (my Time Machine disk is an internal drive).  I went into settings and re-selected the Time Machine disk, then the icon came back by itself. On the next reboot, it was gone again.Â
I've run Disk Utility and everything appears fine. No, I've verified there is no custom icon set via the Get Info window, nor do I care to use a custom icon as a band-aide to this problem.  I'd like to find/fix the root problem. (I'll only apply a temporary custom icon if this a verified bug in the OS.)Â
Originally, this machine came from Apple as refurbished with Mountain Lion installed. The Time Machine icon was always proper. Just a few days ago, I upgraded from ML to Yosemite when this problem started. Otherwise, AFAIK, Time Machine backups are working fine.

Nov 19, 2004Firefox is open, I was wondering what differences anyone has seen between it, and Safari. I have been using Safari with but a few problems for some time. Is there an opinion as to which is better, it at all? I am using it with OS 10.3.6 on two G4's, a Titanium laptop, and a 1.25 dual processor, both with plenty of RAM. There is, however, one specific question. Some sites I can access fully with the laptop, but not with the desktop, even though they are virtually the same hardware & software.

I've been using the new beta for the last week or so and it seems like the websites that appear in the top sites section are almost entirely random ones selected from my history. Some pages that i've visited once for only minutes appear right at the front of the list. I am failing to see any pattern based on popularity.
