View 7 Replies View RelatedA baby managed to get its hands on one of my very important grey iLife restore discs. It appears to be severely scratched, though I do not have access to my mac at the moment to make check on whether it is working or not. Nonetheless, in an effort to salvage it, is there any way to make an identical copy for backup purposes? As in, rip the contents of the original DVD and then burn them to a blank DVD?
I am not financially prepared to pay some ludicrous price to get a replacement from apple, and would like to try everything I can before I resort to... other means of obtaining iLife.
I don't know what to do. I installed Leopard over 10.4.10 as an upgrade on my iMac C2D and after the system rebooted into Leopard for the first time, I can't login to the admin account. I just doesn't accept the password anymore! My second non-admin account works, but I'm completely locked out of the admin account! Even worse, I can't reset the password using the utility on the Leopard Boot Disk. The password reset utility doesn't seem to work! I really don't know what to do. I didn't backup before the install (I bought a second drive and was planning on backing up with Time Machine after Leopard was installed). I'm locked out of my own computer.

I get the rainbow icon often now whereas before it was quite rare.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am building a 10.7 Lion NetInstall image. What I want to setup at some point during the imaging process be it before the install or post configuration it prompts me to set a hostname for a system and then it auto binds the system to our AD domain using that hostname. Is this possible to setup on a Custom NetInstall image on System Image Utility? If so how would I go about setting that up.
I saw how you can create a predefined list of hostnames or have it auto set a hostname using a prefix and the mac address. However I want to be able to define a completely custom hostname during the image process.

This is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.
It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".
I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:
1)normal install - fail
2)repair permission - fail
3)install in safe mode - fail
4) install using another admin acc - fail
5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail
6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai
7)updated my system and install - fail
8) reinstall the mac - fail
i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?

Consider this my first ill informed, new to Mac OS question. Just received my new iMac today and while poking around it seems I do not already have iLife '11 installed, but a previous version of the suite. How do I go about updating? Should it be included? Do I have to actually wait to get a physical disc?
View 2 Replies View RelatedPlease take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently tried to run Onyx which has identified a problem which requires me to run disc utilities from the start up disc. The Snow leopard disc I have only appears to offer Install option.

Well, my question is very simple: I have a MBA and this other laptop from work, a crappy HP which is old as hell. I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got my update disc, but when I put it in, it just sits there cranking for a minute or so and then ejects the DVD. I made sure my software was updated first, and did a shut-down ... but it still just ejects it.
I zapped the PRAM ... and then it did hold on to the disc a lot longer, but it just cranks and cranks and then ejects. I did put in a music CD just to make sure it wasn't the CD driver, but the CD opened and played just fine. Any ideas on why iLife '11 won't install?
I recently purchased the Mac Box Set for my Mac Book. However, when I try to install it the disc spins and nothing shows up...I have rebouted the computer and updated the software. What should I do? Any advice? Let me know.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had to re-install Mac OS X version 10.5.8 with the erase and install clean option. My 2007 Mac Mini is currently running 10.5.7 and iLife 08, and I would like to perform an archive and install using the Macbook discs on my Mac Mini, in the hope that I would be upgraded to iLife 09. Would this work or would I need to perform and complete erase and install to get iLife 09? I do not want to lose any data (although I have backed up).
My current MBP I bought new earlier in the year so has both software disks etc. Now, I bought an IMac second hand this week and I find the install disks are missing. I have bought a new copy of snow leopard but I am wondering if theres a way of installing just the iLife apps from the MBP disks onto my IMac?

Any advice for me before I install ilife 11 (with iPhoto 11 in it)?
So far i have backed up all her pics (not her library) to an external NTFS HD (i had to use some software to make that happen BTW but thats another headache)
How would i go about backing up her 09 iPhoto library which i assume includes albums she has made, printed photo book projects she made, edited pictures etc.... ?
and onto the real question - is iPhoto 11 (iLife 11) not worth the purchase price? can i put the 50 bucks to better APPLE use?
What's the deal w/ that?
My mother bought a MacBook with Leopard and iLife '09 recently. Can I install Leopard and iLife '09 from the discs that came with that on my iMac?
I had assumed not, but the guy at the store said I can.
16Gb ST Lab SSD drive - I was wondering if anyone knew if it was a benefit to install the OS / ilife 09 / iWork in here, would I see an improvement in terms of performance in comparison to my 320Gb 5400 (which I will soon be upgrading to a scorpioblack 500Gb)
Install a memorycard reader in here as at the moment I am transferring my digital pictures either via usb from camera or via an adaptor.
Ideally I would like to go with option one, but only if that actually improves the performance of my system.
I've just reformatted my macbook pro. After installing the install disk, I was not able to install the application disk.
This in turn course me to be unable to have ilife in my notebook There's an unindentified error and no other reasons are given.

The USB "Software Reinstall Drive" that came with my MacBook Air, has iLife on it. The "Software Reinstall Drive" is recognised by my iMac and I can open it. However, when I try to run the iLife installer it says that it cannot install on this computer. Does anyone have any ideas or do you think that it is irrevocably fixed to the MacBook Air?

He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? Do I have to buy a new Leopard install disc? If so where and how much?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis machine has been running fine. I installed ilife8 - had eyeTV running. It was slow, hanging, unhappy so I rebooted. It took a long time but eventually restarted - got the chime and after a few seconds the white screen/grey apple. No spinning wheel - no nothing. After a few minutes the CPU fans slowly go to full scream. Have to hold power switch to shut down. Won't go into single user mode, won't boot CD (can't even get the CD out of the machine, but the dvd never spins up). I've pulled all the memory except the original apple mem. I've tried my Kinston mem. There is nothing else in the machine that isn't pure apple.
