First off, I have a 13 inch MacBook Pro and the resolution is set to the highest it can go, 1280 x 800. My Menu Bar is basically crammed with stuff. Starting from the top right I have Spotlight, the date/time, airport, the bluetooth icon, the volume icon, Time Machine and from there I have 3rd party applications. These include a battery monitor, CPU monitor, memory monitor, network monitor, fan speed and temperature monitor, disk activity monitor, Caffeine, and the Dropbox icon. When I'm in Finder, Safari and many other applications, the menu items for that application can fit fine. But when I'm in iTunes my last menu icon, Dropbox, disappears. When I'm in Amadeous Pro (audio editing) Dropbox, Caffeine, disk activity monitor, and fan speed and temperature monitor disappears.
I would like to import not only bookmarks but also extensions from another browser (better yet, if I can just access the same browser that another user is using on the same computer, without having to move things to the 'shared' folder under the 'users' , that would be the best)Also I would like to make all applications and everything from other users to be available for other users without having to put it into the shared folder. Is this possible?

I've mitigated my profile from my older iMini to my new iMini. Everything worked out fine but I've noticed that [on the new imini] I have to input my password twice. Once I log on and input my password, my profile comes up and ask me again to input the password. I also have a unsecured startup deice/item (display) message displayed once the system comes up. Can I create a new profile and basically move all my documents over to the new established profile.Â
I've realized that sometimes I "lose" my wireless signal. I am not using an AirPort router (I'm using Linksys, if that's at all helpful). I've noticed that suddenly all of the wireless signals disappear from the AirPort menu up on the menu bar, except the network that I am connected to (i.e., I only see my router's name there). It also becomes impossible for me to browse the internet, so what I've done to troubleshoot this is disable the AirPort, put the computer to sleep, and disconnect/reconnect my router. When I turn it on, it seems to work. I've also tried simply disabling and then re-enabling AirPort, but it doesn't work after that.
my "services" menu has disappeared as an option in finder. When I try to access it by right-clicking a finder item (folder or file), it's just plain missing. However if I look for it under the finder menu bar, the arrow beside service says 'building'. But I've been waiting for hours and it doesn't look like anything's happening.
Just today it began that when I try and open iChat from the Menu Bar icon, the whole right side of the menu bar reboots. Anyone else experienced this or have an idea of steps I can take to fix it?
I recently bought myself a Macbook Pro 13-inch model and I've been loving it so far. One thing that really bugs me is how bad the menu navigation is in OS X. I just read this on Macrumors and the only way to access menu from keyboard is by using ctrl+F2 key for which I have to press ctrl+fn+f2 key since F2 is a secondary function. Also, there is no way of going directly to the middle of the menu by keyboard shortcuts, right? If that is true, Mac OS X is still not polished enough for laptops. is there are a better way to control the menu items?
My safari menu bar is missing. The menu bar for desktop, HD, and apps appears, but when I click on Safari, it disappears, so I can no longer see my buttons for History, etc. I think my husband (pc user) clicked it away when borrowing my computer.Â
I run Windows-only programs on my Mac via Wine and I was wondering if there is a way to move the menu toolbar of the windows up to the menu bar to make it somewhat more Mac-looking.
After a day of installing and trying/deleting new apps as well as trying terminal tricks from UsingMac.com like these and these, i went up to my apple menu in the menu bar for the first time since i started fiddling around, and it looks like what you see below in the attachment. I have absolutely no idea what made it happen; I'm just wondering if there is a way to reset the menu alone. because instead of having just what it says in the "system services" section in the menu, it has all that other stuff as well (Calculator, FruitMenu, etc.).
P.S.: Fruitmenu isn't even installed. i uninstalled it after i found out it was only a demo.
So basically: 1) how do i restore the main menu in the menu bar back to its original settings? and 2) I need to do it in a way that wont screw up the rest of my computer or settings
I was trying to change the theme and I got magnifique and crystal clear not sure witch it is but I cant see the stuff like safari for example I cant see the file, edit, view, history, bookmarks, window, and help things but there there like I can click on theme and the thing will open
a quick thing, i am running Safari 4.0.1 and have the history setting set to keep all for a month. However, when i go back into the history folder library/caches/metadata/safari/history, it only goes back 6 days.Unfortunately, i really need to get stuff on that 7th day and i can't seem to find it. Does anyone know how i can get it?
i finally did it and bought a new MBP...now is there an easy way to transfer my itunes, photos and movies to the new computer? The guy at the store sold me a firewire cable with an adapter so my old Mac (the "pixar" iMac from about 7 to 8 years ago) with its 400 firewire speed could then be connected to the MBP...but I am scared... I would like to keep everything on the old machine for now and just copy them over...
I ran into a huge problem today, it seems, and I'm hoping someone here can offer some help. Just for starters, I have a 13" MBP with Snow Leopard. So I tried logging onto my account just now, but accidentally clicked the guest one. In order to somehow undo that, I stupidly hit esc and then command+z repeatedly a few times. It brought me back to the login page, where I logged into my account, but when I did ALL OF MY STUFF was gone--files, pictures, music, folders, documents, etc.--and it was back to all the default settings. I looked through all the folders and everything is GONE. I tried restarting with no luck. I logged into the guest account too and that's also default (as per usual though). Does anyone have any idea how I managed this? Is there a way to fix it and get my stuff back? I'm freaking out because everything I ever needed is (was?) on my mac.
I am still using Tiger. Down to about 15% (17 of 104GB) free space on hard drive and looking to unload unnecessary stuff. /Library/Printers (3GB): I assume I can safely get rid of everything related to printers I do not use.... /Library/Audio/Apple Loops (3GB): of stuff for GarageBand and iLife, which I never use... /Library/Application Support: another 3GB of stuff for GarageBand and iLife... (in fact, can I simply Spotlight for GarageBand and iLife and remove almost everything associated?) Any reasons I should not delete the above? Anything else I should consider deleting? (The big hog is Parallels, but I use that daily). I have pared Documents to the essentials.
Looking to replace the 5400rpm drive with a new 7200rpm drive, but what is the best way to move all my stuff over? Should I clone the drive or is it better to do a fresh install and go through the hassle of reinstalling all my stuff?
My 2007 MBP won't boot up, or at least the screen won't turn on. The genius diagnosed it as an issue with the logic board. I'm not quite two months out of warranty, so it's $310 to fix -- but I spilled water on it three years ago, and if damage is detected, my repair options start to get pretty pricey. I'm now the proud owner of the base-model 13" MBP, which is great, though it hasn't been 24 hours yet. I'm still planning to send the old MBP out to attempt the $310 repair, and we'll keep it as a backup if they'll fix it. However, I'd really like to get my data off the hard drive before I ship it out. I keep hoping it will magically boot up -- it's come back to life a couple of times since I started having this problem -- but I can't expect it to.
What is the easiest way to get my info off the hard drive so I can load everything onto my new MBP? I don't want to do anything more that would give Apple reason to say they can't do the repair. I know I should've backed up, but I didn't, and I can assure you I've learned my lesson ... the hard way.
all these languages and stuff that takes up so much room that is unneeded. How do you delete these things to free up some space. Is this a major ordeal or just a quick file delete kind of thing.
I've not yet decided on iWork or Office Mac... is iWork now fully compatible with Office? If it is I'm gonna download the trial version ASAP. But beyond that what else should I be looking for? My brain has gone dead after all the file transfers, so I've literally just installed MSN Messenger, Football Manager and VLC player + codecs. Do I need any antivirus software as well?
i have a macbook 2.0 unibody. i just bought 500Gb internal hard drive and i want to replace the stock 160Gb with it. how do i move all my stuff from my old drive to the new one? i don't have the cash to buy an external hard drive just so i can move my stuff back and forth, i will have no need for an external right now since i have a 500Gb internal. someone told me to get an HDD caddy and use the stock drive as an external. what i am wondering is, will i be able to transfer all my applications without having the install files (i deleted all my install files as soon as i installed them). is it going to be a simple "drag and drop" kind of deal and every file knows exactly where to go? i just don't know what complications might come about.
I recently purchased a new HD for my Macbook and installed it, along with a clean install of the OS. I put my old HD into an external enclosure and can connect it via USB. Is it possible to selectively migrate certain information from my old HD to the new? Let me be more specific here, I only want to migrate my Safari, Firefox, Mail, Stickies, iCal, iTunes, Adium, and MS Office settings, that's it, nothing else. Is this possible via Migration assistant? Do I have to use a 3rd party app? Is it possible at all?
If you could somehow manage to remove the drm from an itunes purchased movie, and then burned a copy, is there anything encrypted in the dvd that can tell what computer it came from?
I am planning on getting a Mac in a few weeks time as I am going to sell my old windows 7 PC and then install Windows 7 again on my mac via bootcamp. Obviously when i get my mac i can easily transfer all my files onto it but I would loose all my programs. My question is if I was to create an image file of the hard drive on my windows PC could i then use that and Restore it on my Mac, obviously in a separate partition? I have already found a program that i believe will be able to restore my Windows image file in that separate partition, which is winclone:

I just wanted to know if my theory would actually work. Should I have any problems? I will also be using Macrium Reflect to make the image file: [URL] Also I am planning to get a macbook pro 13"
my old g5 1.6ghz bit the dust and I was finally able to upgrade. The only stuff I really want to save is the itunes music I have on there. The question is, how do I get it over? The g5 is running 10.2.8. Feasibly couldn't I just transfer all the music onto a flash drive and put it on the imac that way? Oh one more things, I don't have a monitor for the g5 tower... could I use the imacs screen for my g5? And yeah how would I do that.
I already tried transferring all my files using the Internet, but my laptops can't find each other to be able to do the transfer. What am I doing wrong?
Last week I deleted my desktop.plist because my desktop stuff was gone - only the background image remained. Everything was fine until today when it happened again. I went to delete the desktop.plist file and there wasn't one - at least not in the same place with the same name.
I'm using a PowerBook G4 as my main Mac (email, iCal, contacts, etc). This week I'll be switching to a dual 2ghz G5 as my main computer (after Leopard install). How can I get all my email (using Mail program), iCal and other stuff over to the new Mac and have it registered/working/whatever?
