OS X :: Unable To Print From Dell Laptop
Nov 14, 2009I have an HP Photosmart printer connected, via USB, to a PowerPC Mac. The Mac has Bonjour on it and it acts as a print server to a Mac laptop and a Dell laptop. Until recently, everything was working fine. Now, however, when I try to print from the Dell laptop, I get a pstopdffilter error message. I can still print from the Mac laptop.

Aug 5, 2009I just moved into a new place and my next door neighbor has told us that we can use his wireless connection. I have no problem connecting via my macbook but my fiance has an older Dell laptop that will not connect for some reason. It is recognizing the network but it will not connect. My question is, is there a way for me to connect her computer to the internet through my macbook wirelessly or does if have to be connected through an ethernet or usb cable? Her wireless card does work because before we moved it worked fine throught the router that we had in our house but now.

May 2, 2012I received a 27 LED apple/mac monitor --not the 2011/12 version though.I want to use with my work computer--a dell laptop. I can't seem to find the right adaptor to connect the two.I need a dvi port converter that also connects to my vga on my laptop (so need the male end of hte vga since my laptop has the female end).I only found 1 adaptor but it ends with a dvi on a vga. I don't have hdmi on my laptop either--tried that adaptor as well when I couldn't see on the pic when I ordered that it was hdmi not usb). Please help. I have read so many blogs that say it can be done.

Nov 2, 2009I'm looking for a new monitor to go with my MBP, and I'm stuck trying to choose between the ones listed above.
The 2407WFP is a couple of years old now I guess, but it's the rev A04 version, which supposedly fixed the (few) problems with what was otherwise meant to be a great screen. It's an sPVA screen.
I've heard good reviews of the G2410, with its LED backlighting. It's still a TN panel and I hear so much bad stuff about them.
The 2209WA is an eIPS panel which I like the sound of, but it's smaller and lower resolution.
The F2380 is a cPVA panel, the image quality looks better but I've heard bad things about blacks on this panel.

Oct 28, 2007I have a new Imac and will soon install Leopard
I have in my office 2 Dell PCs that came with Win XP Home which were installed and activated, but are no longer used at all since I had to replace XP home with Win XP Pro due to office networking needs.
So, can I use the Dell Win XP Home Disc (which I really, no longer use) to do the install on the Imac and will Microsoft let me activate it? (I suspect I will have to call them.) I can get the Product Key Number off the side of the Dell tower. That would be a nice savings.
One more question, if I can't use my existing disc and have to buy a fresh Windows OS, would I be better off buying XP Home or Vista Basic. My real need to install Win is just to run MS Money and Word Perfect (I have Word on the Imac but all my previous docs are in WP).

Oct 20, 2009I'm an IMac newbie, so please excuse me if this is "old" information. However, I've done a lot of searching and can't find a "simple" solution. Maybe there isn't one. Again, please excuse me if this is dumb...Just got a new 27" IMac. I have a Dell AIO 966. I know now there is no OEM driver. But, I thought there was a Lexmark driver model (that might show up in the OX 10 install process I could substitute, or a Generic driver. So far, no luck. And frankly, some of the things I am reading when I search are either old, old posts or too complex for me.
Is the simple answer, "get a new printer?" Or, is there a usable driver loaded into OS X? Is there a thread or post that I am missing?

OS X Mavericks :: IMessages Won't Work On New Laptop
Sep 8, 2014I just bought a brand new mac book pro laptop (10.9.4) and have been trying for weeks to get my iMessages to work on it. Things I've tried:
old mac:
1. I've completely removed my icloud account on my old laptop. with a reboot.
New mac:
1. Completely removed iMessages on my new laptop with a reboot (a few times, and tried to reset everything in sync with my iPhone)
2. Signed in and out of the iCloud. removed my iCloud account and reset it up again.
3. signed in/out of my iMessages account (whilst rebooting and also tried doing that while my phone was off)
Iphone:
1. Signed off, signed on my iPhone.
2. logged out in airplane mode, then logged back on and re-added my iMessage account on my iPhone.

I recently acquired the laptop back from my 19 year old son who broke the DVD drive and deleted several necessary programs I'd like to use. The laptop is using 10.4.7 and I would like to upgrade to Leopard, which is the same OS on my iMac. My real question is can I link the two together with a firewire cable or something and load the new OS onto my laptop from the iMac? If this won't work what would you suggest I do to load the Leopard OS from the disk to the laptop?

Jun 19, 2014I am trying to get FCP6 to work on a couple of old laptops..One had no firewire port and the other was just old.I need to edit on a boat and was going to do so on the older laptops but it was just to time consuming. So I bought a 2012 mackbook pro. It was that or a 2010. I wanted to get something just a bit newer to last a few more years so I got the 2010 (Serial # CO2HMDYSDV33). It solves my firewire problem, and also has thunderbolt. I want to install FCP6.0.6 The Mackbook Pro has a fresh install of Mavericks. I have read that I cannot install Snow Leopard on this machine, so I am assuming that my only choice is Lion. I actually naively installed a Snow Leopard Disc.
So my research has told me that I can run FCP6 on lion after performing a few tricks. I just need to learn those tricks.
1. How do I install Lion on the Laptop. I have learned it is a download. Do I reformat the hard drive and then install it from another drive, or maybe another computer. It used to be so easy.

Sep 8, 2014I have a 2011 macbook that has a motherboard that is broken, and that macbook has a terabyte Hard drive that was put in about a year ago after a broken hard drive was removed. Now I have bought a brand new macbook same model and I was advised by the apple store to take the old TB hard drive and swap it with the one in the new computer. I just want to know if by doing this I'm going to loose all of my files and programs by just swapping them. I have no back up anywhere just the files on the hard drive in the broken computer. So am I going to loose all of the files on the hard drive when I swap it? or will I have to get it backed up some how? They are both running Mavericks

I checked and it said that there is something wrong with the hard drive (don't remember exactly what, but I can find out if you need me to). I bought Disc Warrior, but when I put it in, it looked like it starts running, then the computer just shuts down. What should I do?
