This is my first post to peripherals (I'm usually at the Apple TV Forums)--and I was wondering if anyone knows of a decent, dedicated photo scanner that's Mac compatible. Hammacher has one that is a good example of what I'm looking for [URL] but their specs say that it requires Windoze XP or Vista. Is there such a thing for the Mac? I'd like to avoid a flatbed scanner, not to mention creating a Windows partition just for my photo scanning project, if at all possible.

I have a neat scanner connected to my mac via USB. My wife and I both use the scanner and have separate accounts on the same machine. The issue is that the scanner gets "connected" to either one user or the other. Let's say the scanner is working fine for user A. User B can't use the scanner properly. It seems like first come first serve. When user B pushes the scan button on the device and user B is the active account on OSX. User A's account still gets the popup window responding to the scan request. I guess I am looking for a terminal command, or some procedure, so that user B can come in and gain access to the scanner without logging out user A.

Why is OS X's scanner support so terrible?
I borrowed an HP PSC 1410v all-in-one unit to scan a bunch of photos for a project, but I can't get it to scan! I downloaded all the HP drivers and utilities and rebooted, and it says it can't find the scanner.
I also tried the VueScan demo and couldn't get it to work there either.
The scanner works fine when connected to my friends PC... why won't OS X connect to it? Anyone else have better luck with the HP scanners?
she had this scanner that she didn't want anymore. It is a HP ScanJet 4300c. All I have for it is the power and USB cable. What do I have to do on my mac to be able to use it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been asked by a friend to suggest a slide scanner that they can use with their Mac. They have over 500 slides that they want to digitise, so they would like something that is easy to use and can approximate the quality of 12MP camera. They have considered going to a photo store to do this, but they feel that given they have time it would be just as well to do it themselves, and possibly cheaper.

I have a very reliable Agfa scanner(Snapscan 310) which is over 10 years old but has always given me excellent quality and I'm reluctant to replace it. Before my HP Photosmart C3100 worked fine with my Imac 27" i was able to print and scan without any issues. But lately after i haven't scanned for a while over the summer i tried scanning again and it always says NO SCANNER selected in the open scanner box from the print & fax panel from the system preferences. It prints fine but whenever i open scanner dialog box it says NO scanner selected? Why is it not recognizing the scanner part of the printer anymore?I tried uninstalling and installing the printer again didn't work
View 10 Replies View RelatedOk, i know the best protection for the Mac is just 'common sense', but what if you teacher wife downloads files from any random site she can find? Add to that it seems we have been the victim of credit card fraud (not sure how, not necessarily via the Mac either).

I just got a Samsung SCX04521F all-in-one and it came with drivers for OSX, but as far as I can tell no software!!! How can I see what I've scanned or import scans? View 15 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of a mail scanning app, like MailWasher on Windows? Something to view the contents of your mailbox and remove spams before downloading them into Mail.
Please don't just tell me to use the filtering built into Mail, because it seems to always download the messages before filtering them - so I still have to wait for these supposed "Windows security updates" to come in before I can bounce them.
I've browsed the site for awhile now, but this is the first time I've had to post.
I recently tossed my old printer due to the scanner going bad, and picked up a new one. It's an Epson NX400. I've gone through the install disk, done what needs to be done, but I've got a problem.
Whenever I go to add it in the printer utility window, all I can do is highlight it. To clarify, it's showing up just fine under the 'Printer Name' section, and the 'Name' and 'Location' both fill in with the appropriate information when highlighted, but the 'Add' button doesn't become selectable.
It forces me to look through the 'Print Using' window, where the desired printer is nowhere to be found. This also happened when I tried hooking up an HP printer.
I've been scratching my head going through every support site I could find, but I'm giving up. Anyone familiar with a fix?
I am looking for a slide and negative scanner. All of the ones that I have found in the under $1000 price range say they are compatible with some variety of Windows.
Which is great for them.
But what about Mac? I don't want to spend the money just to find that I can't use the thing.
Any recommendations?
