This comes up a lot, usually while installing software. The latest one was while installing an update for Adobe Flash, OSX prompts for my username and password saying that the software needs to make changes. Is there a way to audit what changes have been made after a prompt like this occurs?

I have a mac osx 10.4 with only 1 (admin) user account. When I try to drag any folder to the desktop, it will prompt me for the administrator password. I have checked the security settings in system preferences, and FileVault is turned off. how I can disable this function? None of the other macs on the network have this "feature" enabled.

But every time I save a new version of the project (and even rename it, store it on another drive, etc.), the changes I make to the new version are also made to the original.I'm also not getting the popup "duplicate project" window (which should give me a choice of where and how to save the project) I'm supposed to get when I click on "Duplicate Project." How can I simply save a fixed version of my project?

Since installing snow leopard I can no longer watch any videos on Hulu or any network.com sites. I have installed Peruin, update QT for snow leopard and updated to the latest flash player.....any suggestions. I "got info" on safari and told the application to open with rosetta. there were a number of other programs that I needed to do that for so I thought that would work...but nothing does!

As far as I can tell there is no way to do this in font book. The reason I want to do this is that I am trying to compare different versions of the same font with different character support (e.g. Latin 1 vs WGL). At the moment I keep having to delete and then reinstall the font, which isn't great.

I was in the middle of installing OS X onto my external HD so I could boot from that and try to retrieve some of my files off my internal hard drive. I don't know if it was my girlfriend, my cat, or time but when I woke up, the screen has prompted to insert "Mac OS X Install Disc 2" disc to continue installation but I believe install disc 1 was pressed back into the cd slot. I can't figure out how to get it to eject so I can insert cd 2. Eject key isn't working, f12 isn't working

I did a fresh install - and usually it prompts me for the Applications cd towards the end of the installation. For some reason it didn't. I didn't change any of the default options and normally with other OS installs in the past it's prompted me.

For the last week or so I've been having an increasingly regular problem with Mail. Upon launching, the app opens a dialog window saying, "Mail can't connect to the Google account 'Gmail'. Enter the password for user (username)." Then when I enter the password, the app crashes. Sometimes clicking the "Cancel" botton allows the app to open, but sometimes that results in a crash as well. Also, when I can launch Mail successfully, sometimes when I try to send mail, the outgoing mail will sit in the Outbox unsent.
I've been getting these warnings with both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts. Until a few days ago I was using Yahoo as my primary account, but the inability to send mail caused me to switch to Gmail as my primary. After a couple days of smooth sailing, I'm now getting the same errors with my Gmail.

After working just fine I am having 2 problems.
1. I keep getting prompted to date and install Adobe flash player - my Mac says already installed.

Just got a new MacBook Pro, wanted to transfer my data from the old (2010) MBP. I've done this dozens of times before, but always manually, via Finder copies from external hard disks, etc. This time I decided to try the Official Method, using Migration Assistant. After numerous tries, I couldn't get Migration Assistant to work between the two MacBook Pros (both running 10.9.3), even with Apple's assistance. So I decided to try it with a MacBook running 10.6.8. It worked (though poorly; Migration Assistance needs some serious repair), which was useful (now I know that Migration Assistant works, and it's not a problem with the cabling I was using, but something in the old MBP). But now I have two user accounts on my new MacBook Pro, which I don't want, plus the added account has now been made the primary account, with (some) data from the previously primary account moved to it.
So I want to delete the new, added, now primary user and return the MBP to its former, pristine state. So I have to go through all the data (fortunately there isn't much; both the new MBP and the MacBook were only recently set up) that's been moved from the original account to the added account, move it back to the original account, then delete the added account (if I can). This was somewhat complicated by the fact that the ~/Library folder is now invisible by default, but I figured that out. However, what I'm wondering now is, when the second, added account was made the primary account, did it assume all attributes of the former primary account, including its number? I know that user accounts in Mac OS have numbers, like 501, 502, etc.
How can I see the numbers of these two accounts? And if the added account is now number 501, when I delete it, how I can I restore the number 501 to the original account? Or perhaps I should just return the new MBP to its factory state, and start over? But I can't, since it didn't come with any Install DVDs (nor indeed, with an optical drive). (I've been out of touch with the Mac world for several years due to illness, am only now learning about the changes since 10.6, which I'd been using until less than a week ago.) I can wipe the MacBook Pro and reinstall 10.9.3, but that might lose some information specific to this computer that came with it.
I have some files on my desktop right now that I would like to secure from wondering eyes. Other people use my Macbook Pro from time to time and I don't want anyone to read these documents. Is there a way to create a folder/file that requires a password to gain entry to view the contents of this folder/file?
View 17 Replies View RelatedUsing certificates from ORC in Mavericks or iOS 7, I cannot read my sent messages. In previous versions of Mail, a copy was saved encrypted with my private key as well as the recipient's public, so that I could view and search older sent messages. After updating to some newer certificates, this feature seems to no longer work.
Recipients have no trouble reading the message, and as a workaround, I can BCC a copy to myself at a different account (which uses different S/MIME encryption and identity certificates from the sending account).
I have tried removing the older certificates and verifying the certificate preferences in the Keychain, all to no avail...

View 12 Replies View RelatedI used a partitioned HDD for time machine, using a partition already containing other data files. I am now no longer able to view that partition in Finder. Disk Utility shows it in grey and "not mounted". How to access the files? Does using time machine mean that that partition is no longer able to be used as it used to be?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes, it's not just folders, it's files too. Sometimes in non-mac sources, like my SMART TV, I see files named .filename.mp4 along with filename.mp4. And these fraudulent files are really bothering. And the worst part, I can't see them in Finder. remove the .file.mp4.
I used the term 'filename.mp4' to represent an MP4 video file. But the files that have a . before them need to be deleted.
I can open mail to where I get the tool bar on top. I can select anything on toolbar but nothing opens. Tried restarting, force quit.

I'm able to open the app but it won't display any of the actual details of my emails. When I try to open them standalone the app crashes too. Tried googling for fixes, most of them include Terminal which seemingly won't open anymore either.

Can I reset my password (Without reinstalling, I'm sure that might be the general answer...)for installations? I am 100% sure I typed it in correctly both times, caps, no caps, and then tried another password, caps, no caps. Since i updated to maverick last week i got an issue with the Mac Preview app, it opens the documents ok, but when opening several files at the time, the thumbnails are all scrambled and not showing the miniature of the selected file.
if i click on the thmbnails area and navigate with the keyboard's arrows it allows me to go through the open files, all files open ok but the thumbnails is the only part that is having this issue.
I have deleted the com.apple.Preview from ~LibraryContainers but still having the issue.
