OS X Mavericks :: How To Share Printer

Aug 20, 2014

I have a USB printer connected to an iMac running 10.9.4. Printer sharing is turned on.I also have a MacBook Air, running 10.9.4. It does not see the printer.

All the instructions from Apple say I can share printers with "other Macs on the same network". I guess the MBA isn't "on the same network" as the iMac. How do I get them "on the same network" so the MacBook Air can see and print to the iMac's printer?

Hardware :: Unable To Share Printer / Do Not Have Sufficient Access To Connect To Printer

Nov 8, 2008

I have a iMAC running 10.5.5 and have connected a HP Photosmart C6280 Printer to it via the USB cable. Using Bonjour to connect a XP and a Vista box I get a error saying "ERROR You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer". I am logged in as the administrator when I do it on the XP or Vista computer and have completed this function on other printer installation before so I know the permissions are there. The software for the printer is loaded on both windows computers.

Hardware :: Unable To Share Printer / Canon D480 Printer

Aug 22, 2009

I have 2 new I-Mac computers set up on a home network. I have my new Canon D480 Multifunction printer connected to one of the Macs ("Mac #1) by USB and it prints perfectly with the driver recommended in the printer manual downloaded from the Canon site. I have Printer sharing turned on. The printer's name on Mac #1 is Canon D460-490 (UFRII LT) which is the name that was automatically given to the printer when I downloaded the drivers and installed them.

However I am unable to print to the printer from the second new Mac ("Mac #2") although I have downloaded the same printer driver and have added the printer on Mac #2. The printer's name on Mac #2 is Canon D460-490 (UFRII LT) @ Mac #1.I go through the motions of File, Print, but nothing happens.

OS X :: Share Printer With PC?

Sep 21, 2009

I'm trying to share a printer that is connected to a Mac Pro with a Windows PC that sits adjacent to it. I've done the opposite before quite easily (share a printer connected to a PC with a Mac), but I've been having a time getting it working in reverse. Any idea how I might go about doing this? I've obviously enabled printer sharing but I'm having a difficult time getting Windows to see the printer.

Windows On Mac :: Share Printer In OS X?

May 19, 2010

I'm current sharing my printer in OS X to both a Macbook and Windows laptop. I often switch between OS X and Windows, so is there any way to share the printer using the same settings from both operating systems? It would be more convenient obviously if it wasn't necessary to check which OS the desktop's currently in beforehand.

Hardware :: Share Printer Through Network

May 24, 2010

I need some advice, I have a wireless printer that I would like to share using my home network but Im not sure what would be the best way to do this, since I have never done anything like this before. What I have is a wireless printer(HP), a MacBook (wirelessly connected), a MacMini (wired connected), a PC laptop (wirelessly connected) and a linksys router. Is there a way to share this through my router or do I need to install the printer in one of the machines and then share the print? What would be my best alternative to share this printer?

Hardware :: Share Printer Through Ethernet Network?

May 17, 2009

This looked like the best place to post this. I have two computers in my home, a 20" iMac with Leopard and a Desktop Dell with XP. There is an usb printer connected to the Dell, but its upstairs. The computers are connected through an ethernet cable. I was wondering if there was a way to print archives from the iMac to the usb printer. What i have been doing is either sharing the files and inserting them to a shared folder on windows xp or sending them to myself via email. I find both processes extremely annoying and boring, and would rather instead just directly send a command to the printer.

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Trying To Share A Printer Attached To A PPC Mac Mini?

Jun 5, 2012

Back story: Trying to share a printer attached to a PPC Mac Mini John Galt recommended I bring this discussion over to this board; in retrospect, I probably should've started here, as my issue is more likely tied to the OS than to the computer it's running on. Short story: I'm using a PPC Mac Mini running 10.5.8 as a headless print server, the other Macs in the house printing through it to a couple of printers I have... only the print jobs never seem to arrive. The client Macs think they're delivering the goods, but my ersatz print server is clueless as to the existence of these print jobs.

Hardware :: Unable To Share Printer / No Bonjour Printers Are Available

Sep 12, 2009

I've spent the morning trying to get printer sharing to work for the following situation, additionally illustrated by the attached image: I have a network centered around a Belkin router. An iMac is connected to it with an Ethernet cable, a HP PSC 2110 printer is in turn connected to the iMac with a USB cable.

Wirelessly, a number of laptops connect to the network. There is a MacBook Pro, that doesn't have a single issue whatsoever. Also, there is a DELL Inspiron 9400 running XP with Service Pack 3, protected by a McAfee security suite. What I'm desperately trying to do, is to enable the DELL to wirelessly print from the HP printer connected to the iMac. Obviously the iMac itself is able to print, and the MacBook Pro plays nice as well.

Now, there are about a million threads on this topic, with situations quite similar, but none of the solutions proposed anywhere seem to get the whole thing running. For this reason, I decided to have people shine their light on exactly my own situation, in case I am missing something.

The Bonjour software on the DELL is up-to-date, but giving the "No Bonjour printers are available" message (I'm not sure about the exact wording, since in my situation it is in Dutch.) The McAfee firewall is set to allow Bonjour full network access, and additionally UDP port 5353 is opened up. Obviously Printer Sharing is turned on on the iMac.I'm at a complete loss, so I came here to look for an answer. Or someone to tell me to forget it, it's not going to happen. I'd take anything right now.

OS X :: Upgraded To Snow Leopard - Cannot Share Canon Printer Via Bonjour

Dec 25, 2009

I'v been running Leopard on my wife's MacBook Pro since we got it in May. We have a Canon MF4150 attached to it via USB and have been sharing it out from the Mac. I have been using Bonjour and have been printing just fine from both my XP machine and my daughter's Vista machine. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. I upgraded the drivers to the Snow Leopard compatible drivers from Canon and everything prints fine from the Mac. However, whenever we try to print from one of the Windows machine I get this popup on the Mac: "Canon UFR II Printer Driver key value specified for ticket does not exist.: 15512" And the printer is now "paused" whatever that means. When I try to unpause it, I get that some popup error. I end up having to delete the printer and re-add it to get printing (from the Mac) working again. I've deleted and re-added the printer many times. I even went to far as to remove the drive on the Mac manually (according to Canon's directions) and reinstall. I've deleted/recreated the printers on Windows using the Bonjour wizard.

OS X Mavericks :: File Sharing Name Has A -1 Appended To The Share

Aug 21, 2014

I had an end user create a shared folder on a new server. He did this incorrectly, and I had to fix the sharing permissions, folder location, etc. When I moved the shared folder, it seemed to have caused an issue with the list of available shares, and when connecting to the shared folder it now is appended with a -1 (SHARE-1). I believe this is because the preference file for the shared folders still has the legacy folder listed or there is a legacy cache somewhere that I can't find.

I've cleared DNS cache, used Onyx to clear out all other caches, I've removed AFPconfig and afp files in etc, I've removed the share and restarted the server and set up the share again, manually unloaded and relaunched com.apple.applefileshare.plist. Probably even more stuff I've done but can't remember. I can't get rid of that pesky -1 on the end of the share name.

way to get rid of the cache for AFP file shares?

OS X Mavericks :: Customize Share Option In Contextual Menu?

Aug 21, 2014

Before I ask this question, I just want to emphasize that I KNOW how easy it is to create a service using automator. I'm not looking to clutter up my contextual menu more than it already is, I would just like to edit/alter an already existing submenu, or simply add a new one like Dropbox does.

I would like to add a share option to my right-click contextual share option for outlook, or whatever app/service I would like to send the file with.

add a share option to the contextual-menu, and possibly delete some I don't use, like flickr or twitter.

OS X Mavericks :: SMB Share Unable To Write File To Root

Sep 8, 2014

We are running OSX mavericks 10.9.4 which connects a network windows share on login.

I have see the share and navigate through its files fine however, if I try drag a file to the root of the share the green plus does not appear and I am unable to copy it. I am however, able to copy it to a sub folder within the same view.

Permissions are definitely correct and have the same permissions as the sub folders previously mentioned. If I go into a sub folder and back to the root, I am then able to copy the file as intended. It is based in an AD environment so these are all new users viewing the share from the MAC for the very first time.

OS X Mavericks :: Unable To Connect To File Share Through Bonjour Since Upgrade

Jun 24, 2014

I have several iMac machines and MacBook Pros that were upgraded to Mavericks. Since the upgrade they are unable to connect to a file share simply by clicking on the server in a Finder window and then clicking on the "Connect As..." button. (As I understand it, this is the Bonjour service.) This has worked in the past and works on machines running 10.8.x

I am able to connect to the very same file share if I use "Connect to Server" and type in the afp:// address.

Nothing has changed in the network that I'm aware of.

OS X Mavericks :: No Printers Are Available - Cannot Add Printer / No Selection

Aug 24, 2014

System Preferences / Printers: Says No printers are available.

Clicked on + to add printer: Add screen is devoid of any printers; says "no selection" in both Name and Location fields

Printer involved:

Epson Work Force WF-3540 - have had it for about a year and it has been working with no problems

Had a printer jam I couldn't find; rebooted a few times, etc. Eventually found the jam and then the above problem started. (I'm embarrassed to say that I found a toothpick inside the printer. It was once sitting on top and must have rolled under and in.)

All software up to date, except for a Pages update.

History of where I looked and actions taken (not necessarily in order):

Library/Printers was (and still is) empty, not the least because of multiple printing system resets.

-Have attempted to restore Printers directory from TimeMachine, with no luck. Epson printer drivers were restored, but System Preferences/Printers still blank.
-Have attempted to install original printer software from disk, but it hangs in the middle, saying that no printer connection can be found, despite printing being online.
-Have attempted to run Software Update to get latest printer drivers, but Software Update says that it is up to date and won't let me rerun.
-Have run disk utility to verify: disk = okay
-Have run verify disk permissions. Had loads of permission errors related to the printer library
-Have run repair disk permissions
-Have done the last two steps many times, but disk permissions don't get fixed and original problem has not changed.

Unplugged everything, took a break, factory reset printer, started all over. Nothing worked.

Also did the RESET THE PRINTING SYSTEM. Doesn't work. OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system

Also tried to download the drivers from Epson, but they just tell you to use Software Update and I already mentioned that doesn't work.

The only thing in the disk permissions list that looked suspicious was this message:

Group differs on "Library/Printers"; should be 80; group is 0 (repeated for various sub-directories (Icons and PPDs))

OS X Mavericks :: Printer Gives Communication Errors

Dec 2, 2014

I use MacBook Pro and  I updated from the Snow Leopard to Mavericks, OS 10.9.5.  My printer is Epson Photo R2000 WiFi Wireless. Before I updated, I very seldom had problems printing.  Now after updating to Mavericks, I very very often get a 'Communication Error' , then

'Printing - looking for printer', then 'Printer not connected'.  and if I click off and on the 'pause' feature several times, often up to 7 or 8 times, it will eventually print.  Apple would probably say this is Epson's problem  and Epson would probably say this is Apple's problem. but it is very difficult to complete my projects when I can't get the equipment to work properly.
