OS X Mavericks :: How To Identify Bluetooth Profile

Sep 9, 2014

I am trying to troubleshoot a bluetooth speaker on my Mac and I was wondering if there is a way to identify which Bluetooth profile the speaker is using (2.0, 3.0, 4.0, etc.)?  Is there a way to find out this information - either in System Information or by using an app?

OS X Mavericks :: How To Restore Admin Account Profile

Aug 24, 2014

I hadn't used my notebook for about a week and when I turned it on the other day the password login page was missing and I noticed that the Administrator Account is also missing. I have tried to delete the two remaining accounts to see what would happen, but either I can't remember my ID name or the system won't let me delete the accounts because the admin is missing.

I have tried my Snow Leopard CD but it won't let me reinstall or run diagnostic.

OS X Mavericks :: Can Switch Admin Rights To A Different User Profile

Nov 30, 2014

I'm running Mavericks on a MacBook Pro. Right now I operate everything under the admin user profile. It has been suggested that I should not be operating all of my daily work using the admin account, I should be using a standard user account, and the admin should remain for admin purposes only. Is it possible to switch the admin rights to a different user account, and then I keep the account I've been working in, have all software and preferences loaded in and make it a standard account? Or can I duplicate my admin account and use the duplicated user account for working in, and the original as the admin? Trying to keep from having to reload all software, passwords, copy work, etc. Since I don't understand this fully, not sure how to accomplish this.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Create A New Profile And Basically Move All Documents Over To The New Established Profile?

Apr 19, 2012

I've mitigated my profile from my older iMini to my new iMini.  Everything worked out fine but I've noticed that [on the new imini] I have to input my password twice.  Once I log on and input my password, my profile comes up and ask me again to input the password.  I also have a unsecured startup deice/item (display) message displayed once the system comes up. Can I create a new profile and basically move all my documents over to the new established profile.

OS X Mavericks :: How To Create Email Profile On Mail To Access Gmail

Sep 1, 2014

I know how to create a email profile on OSX Mail to access GMail. My question is if the GMail mail will be downloaded locally to my machine or will it remain on the Google servers. I WANT it to remain on the servers, ie I only want to access my emails through Mail. Otherwise most of my HDD will fill up with email and also I will not be able to access my emails when I do not have my machine on hand. what happens when I delete an email in Mail? Will it also get deleted in GMail?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Move Profile Data To New Profile?

Apr 5, 2012

my system fonts are jacked up and fill in lines in Safari are not readable as the text is bigger than the fil in window. Also my laptop is running harder, hotter and the battery life is less than half of what it should be. I also get text overlap line to line sometimes in Safari.

I have restored my OS with a clean install and then recovered my profile from Time Machine, this is how I discovered its my profile. I added a clean profile the first time I rebuilt the mac and it ran much faster, with less hardware usage and longer battery life. Once I began to recover my profile the system was same as always slow with Safari issues mentionee earlier. I switched to the temp user account profile and the system is fast no Safari issues and less intensive activity going on, battery life good etc.

If I rebuild the mac again I am not able to recover the profile/account without issues, I would like to move just what I need to a new profile/account from Time Machine but it doesn't allow access to the original admin account for a selective restore. I would like to be much more granular about the restore and just move my documents and such. I don't want to recover the applications or application data at this point as I don't need it. I would rather re-install just the apps I need at this time. Other option would be to clean my account/profile so that it runs as it should or move everything I want (mostly documents)  to a new profile for improved use.

OS X Mavericks :: Bluetooth Sound Output Not Working?

Aug 24, 2014

I have a mid 2009 13 inch MBP and am trying to output sound through a bluetooth device.

The bluetooth device is a BCK-08 Slim AD2P Stereo Bluetooth Receiver

[URL]

Once connected as a device, nothing shows up in sound output though.

I can easily connect it to my iPhone 5 and output stereo music sound through it so I know the bluetooth device is working fine.

are there any external tools I can use to assess the situation? I seem to recall the old bluetooth setup assistant would ask what you wanted to use the device for while setting up.

OS X Mavericks :: Bluetooth Mouse Pointer Works But Can't Land Anywhere

Jun 5, 2014

It is happening more and more often: When I start my iMac the mouse pointer is moving normally but when I click on, say, Finder nothing happens, or when I click on the Dock nothing happens. It will not stay or land on any app. It is just hovering and nothing seems to be affected by the mouse pointer.

I turn the mouse off and back on and it works fine. So it is an erratic behavior which baffles me.

I have read numerous cases in the discussions and all point to a PRAM reset. Will a PRAM reset delete or revert modifications I have made to my iMac, such as disabling the startup sound, via sudo?

I don't mind restarting the mouse but it is a hassle

OS X Mavericks :: Pairing Bluetooth Presenter Doesn't Work Anymore

Jun 28, 2014

I have a bluetooth remote presenter. It has the usual keys (next, previous, volume, play/pause, start default music player) and it also has a small touchpad / trackpad with left and right buttons, scrolling buttons.

The remote is great and it served me well under Windows and OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. Now since I bought a new machine with Maverics, I can't pair it. The bluetooth utility looks different on Mavericks. Certain things missing, such as making Bluetooth discoverable or not in the way of simplification of things or oversimplification of things, where there seems to be no access to Bluetooth device details and no way to add device without pairing code.

The remote is recognized as mouse with keyboard, which makes things worse, there is not only no code on the device, even if there is one (or if it would except 0000, 0000000, or similar), I have no way to enter it.

Unfortunately Maverics made things simple but useless for some bluetooth devices. It's unnecessary.

Seems like I will be stuck with Snow Leopard on one of my machines forever.

When I look in console on SL, here is what I see:

2014-06-28 8:23:11.268 AM System Preferences[7658]: [establishKernelConnection] Received an error from IOServiceOpen() - 0x10000003.  NULLing out io_service_t.

There is an entry like this every time I try to pair.

The Bluetooth manager window says -- "Pairing failed"

When I go to Options, it shows the field to enter code. No matter what I enter there or if I leave empty, I won't be able to pair.

Otherwise BT works fine on Maverics, I have Apple keyboard, Logitech kayboard, Apple and Logitech trackpad and audio device connected, no issue.

The Remote presenter works also fine and I tried to re-pair it with other non-Mavericks machines and works fine too.

How To Identify Your IMac

I bought a 20" iMac G5 (PPC) in September 2005 for my husband. Looking on internet sites for information on how to repair the power supply, it seems we need to find the EMC number. The iMac certainly does not have it printed on the label under the stand, only the serial and the ethernet numbers.

How To Identify MacBook Pro Models

I'm trying to figure out which Model of Mac I have so I can install more RAM, but the chart given is conflicting. I have a 17" Macbook Pro that I bought from BestBuy with Model Identifier "MacBookPro6,2" but I look on this chart here, and the only 6,2 is a 15" Model.  I don't get it.For the most part, the "MacBook Pro6,1" defines my hardware I guess, but I'm concerned as to why there is no 6,2 17" on the chart when clearly I own one.

I usually leave my iMac turned on with just the monitor switched off. That was also the case when I left yesterday for a day trip. Coming back today, I noticed that it was shutdown. Pressing the power button, I can hear the familiar "ding" of boot up, the fans running, the usual dvd drive sound and after that it just shuts down. Not even the monitor will power on. Before I start panicking since various thoughts are crossing my mind, is there anything that I can try to possible identify what's wrong?
