I've been using it before and was able to see it until I upgraded my OS to Mavericks....Now, I cannot find it in the finder but I can see it in the disk utility however, my mac does not allow me to do anything on it...I don't want to reformat coz I have important files in my hard drive...

My external Hard Drive (Western Digital 2TB hard drive in a ICYBOX 2-bay USB 2.0 HD Dock) won't transfer files to the Mac HD. The transfer box comes up but stays at the 'estimating time' stage and remains like that. No matter how big the file/group of files are (biggest I've tried was only 500-odd MB) it won't transfer and stays at the 'estimating time' stage. When I try and stop the transfer, the transfer box remains at the 'stopping' stage until I restart the iMac. I can access other programs during this 'stopping' stage, as long as it doesn't involve the External HD.
When I attempt to open files from the External HD in Photoshop CS4, both Photoshop and Finder stop responding and have I have to 'Force Quit'. However, upon force quitting finder, I loose all icons on the desktop until I restart the Mac via holding down the 'Power' button on the back.
Ive already done a couple things.
- I excluded the Ext HD on the Spotlight>Privacy tab.
- I verified the Ext HD via System Utilities. Some errors came up but the Repair was successful and subsequent Verifications have returned as 'OK'.
- I tried the Mac Diagnostic tool as suggested by Apple, but when I press the 'D' key on start up nothing happens.
The annoying thing is that this problem came out of the blue, the Ext HD was working fine 3 days ago.

I click ignore, and it lets me do whatever i want to the disk - read, write, etc. I have tried repair disk - tells me it's good to go, and tried reformatting several times - thought not zero disk data or the 7 pass bs.

I want to move my photos from my laptop to an external hard drive. I already own a Seagate which is formatted for a PC, with photos already on it. I do not want to lose those photos and have been told by Apple tech that the seagate can be reformatted for mac. How do I do this without losing the PC photos already on it. I've got a desktop external hard drive that I'm using for Time Machine backups over WiFi connected to an airport extreme, but it's dieing and I'd like to replace it. i have a problem accessing a toshiba HDD which i copied files from my previous windows system.
the HDD doesn't even appear in Finder or anywhere else.
I plug in usb port and nothing happen.
I have used this drive for a little while now. It now won't be read by a my Mac Pro or iMac. I'm about ready to take the drive apart. I have tried all USB ports and different power sources. The blue light comes on the drive, the drive spins, but the computer won't read the drive...

Mavericks is not seeing my external hard drive at all. It's not mounted and not showing in /dev (I compared /dev with and without it plugged in and there were no changes). It does light up when plugged in and works fine in Windows. Can't find any drivers. It is a Toshiba 593400-c.

I wasn't required to sign any paper after that. Before when I got a replacement iphone or macbook charger, they both asked me to sign a paper. I don't know why this time is different. Also I heard that Toshiba hard drive is worse than Samsung's.By the way, I didn't erase my documents in previous hard drive, will anyone be able use or read them? I have an Iomega 320GB SPHDU external hard drive which I was using as my backup disk for Time Machine and also to store other files (documents, photos, etc.). I have been using for some time now and never had any problems, however this morning, I plugged the hard drive into my MacBook Pro, which is from early 2011 and on operating system OS X 10.9.4, using the USB ports and the hard drive did not appear in Finder. I checked to see if it had appeared in Disk Utility which it does, but Disk Utility is telling me that the hard drive needs repairing. When I try to repair the hard drive, I get the message 'Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed up files.'

My blue 1TB external WD Passport Drive (whose name is Ralph and who holds all kinds of precious things that I love and can't lose) isn't showing up on my Finder screen. Whenever I connect him, his light turns up and blinks as usual, but I can't access anything on him. I don't even get an error message when I disconnect him without ejecting. I've tried using different USB ports and different cables, but it's not working. I've also tried connecting him to different computers (3 different macs and 1 Windows 8 PC), but NOTHING.
I've been trying everything the past few days to get him to work. He shows up on Disk Utility occasionally. I've tried verifying and repairing him through Disk Utility, but it says that the verification could not be completed, or that it can't repair him. It tells me to back up as many files as I can and then restore him, but I can't access the files to back them up in the first place. Also, the partition name seems to have changed to 'disk1s3', which appears greyed out on the Disk Utility screen.
In regards to mount point, it says that the disk isn't mounted. I tried mounting it by right-clicking it on Disk Utility, but the mount failed. I tried restoring him onto another 1TB WD drive (Oscar), but that failed too.
I have an external HD full of music and whenever I want to play one, I just search for it in finder and drag&drop it to iTunes. However, I'm having issues with it on my new MacBook Air. Whenever I search the drive for files, they appear normally, but I can't drag them! Highlighing works OK, so does double-clicking or cmd+O, but I can't move them to a playlist. It's the same with any files, not just .mp3s - they cannot be dragged out of the finder window. Scrolling is also wonky, but moving between files using arrows works fine.
note that this works perfectly fine when searching the computer's HD.
Is this a glitch of some sort, or is the computer preventing me from doing it for some reason? I'm running 10.9.3 with all the updates; the HD is a 1TB Transcend, ExFAT formatted.
