I have launchpad docked and use it quite often and today when I clicked on it, all I got was a blurred out version of my desktop. All of my applications were missing. I know I can access them through finder>applications, but launchpad was so convenient *insert whine here*. restoring this oh so convenient option from my docking station

I was installing LastPas on Safari and when it was complete my launch pad had disappeared from the menu bar at the bottom of the screen.
A "?" appears in its place. I cannot remove the "?". T launch pad works as expected when executed from the applications folder.

Feature request to consider turning the old dashboard into a fullscreen notification center with multiple columns and grid-based resizing of widgets.
Let users decide what the launchpad/dashboard/F4 key would act like.
The upper right corner notification center button. One click for sidebar, two clicks for full screen notifications center.
Right now the old dashboard is pretty much useless with its ancient widgets. And launchpad is rather useless with the new Yosemite Spotlight.

On My MacBook Pro, using my Apple Mail, iCloud account, in the mail app, I was working on a very long detailed email and saving it as a draft in between, I finally finish the email and check it for errors and then send. The little blue line in "mail activity" shows the message being sent. Then I go to my sent folder and the message is nowhere to be found? I follow in the instructions for rebuilding etc and same thing, nowhere to be found?
How I can possible get this email back? this happens so much on Apple Mail which is so so frustrating especially when you make the attempt to constantly save the email and it still disappears. So now I don't know if the email sent, and it's not a situation where I can merely contact the sender to see if they got it. Another issue with the iOS on iPhone is that the new one makes the swish sound to appear as if the any emails sent miraculously send in a split second, when they don't sometimes they don't send at all. But this swish sound gives the impression that the email was indeed sent, I find this misleading. Because on the previous iOS it only made that sound when the email actually sent.

My icons are randomly disappearing! They are missing from Finder windows and the sidebar. On the Dock they are present, except for the Documents and Downloads folders, which are inivisible.

This evening I woke my computer up and the first thing I noticed was the background image had changed.
Then navigating through my folders, all files have been removed except for *some" of the following file types:
Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, CeltX, Final Draft, InDesign.
Files I know were there this morning and are no longer there are: PDF, MOV, TXT, and others.
When I "get info" on one of the folders that used to be populated with files, the first file size that shows is the original (i.e. 2.3 gigs) but it quickly updates to the new size of an empty folder (6 mb).
I have checked to make sure I am still logged in as the correct user, I have reset the PRAM, I have reindexed finder, I have verified and repaired the disk and verified disk permissions. I have used Terminal to show all hidden files, and none of these things have worked. No, I do not have a backup that I can restore from.

Today I had the biggest shock of my life, the backup of my iMac is gone from my Time Machine. The hard disk has just been replaced. I had checked before that the backups were there and all was fine. I even recovered a few files from that backup a few days ago. Today the restoring didn't go well, I ran into an error message a few times and tried a few earlier backups. Now I can't see my iMac anymore on Time Machine.
How to get things back? How can I see my iMac again on Time Machine? It would be really bad if I have lost everything.

I recently decided to download a vast amount of email from by email service provider (Verizon) to Mail. But now, when I get into email, 99% of the emails have disappeared. I don't have time machine backup or archival turned on.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWorking offline during a flight, I created a new "Mailbox" -- i.e. a subfolder -- within an account in Mail and moved some messages into it. Back on the ground and reconnected with the Internet, that subfolder has disappeared, along with all the messages in it. Where did it go? Is it possible to recover it?
If it makes any difference, it was a Gmail account accessed via IMAP.

I was working on curriculum changes for an online ecollege course. Stepped away for dinner and left machine on (MacBook Pro, running OSX 10.9.4). Have done this frequently and the light show screen saver appears, so I tap it to give my password and it returns to where I left off. But, last night, I returned and the connection to the college/university server had been cut and now Safari is taking me back through security and cookie changes I already made. When I tried to shut down the system under the Apple menu, I got an error box indicting that if I shut down all my files would be deleted. When I tried again, it informed me that I was logged in as a guest user and shutting down would result in the permanent deletion of my files. So, I let the damned thing run and it's still running because when I looked up, all folders and files had disappeared from my desktop -- even some of the applications (like Word) had also disappeared. I want my files back and I want to shut this down safely.

Now the bars on the side of mail and safari that allow one to move the screen up and down-are not there-except for sometimes.. I was suspicious when, trying to open up various apps on my dock, they wouldn't open and I got a question mark over the icons. It is showing '0' applications. I tried copying my applications from my external hard drive. It looks like it is copying over and when the copying is finished, poof, it disappears and applications folder shows '0'. I am on Mac OS 10.3.9, iMac (lamp-shade style), processor is 800 MHz G4, and memory is 768 MB. This is pretty critical, I can't do anything with no applications! (Would this be some strange virus?)
View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday afternoon I opened up safari and found it looked somewhat naked. My bookmark bar was missing. I went into preferances, and it was still checked. I unchecked it, and checked it again. Quit safari.
Restarted. Nothing seems to get it back. An ideas as to what happened, or how I can fix it?
Last Thursday, i shut my MBP down and gave it to a friend to look after while I went on a driving lesson, OS X has a password so he couldn't have got in, but when i turned it back on that afternoon, some of my apps were missing, such as Address Book, iCal, iChat, iSync, Safari and a few others I still haven't noticed. I have been able to re-install the apps, but why did it happen in the first place?!?!

EDIT: I haven't been able to re-install iSync, it isn't available on Apple's website for download, and other sites want me to pay. It isn't a re-install option when i put the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 in. Any help in re-installing iSync would be very helpful.
Last night I made a clean install on Leopard so today I downloaded Messenger for Mac 7.0.2.
When my buddy list appeared, it was grouped into "Online" and "Offline", these 2 groups only. However, I used to have several groups in my previous buddylist. What happened to those?
My OSX is 10.5.8(Macbook Air). It is still available on my other computer with the same OSX!! Is there somewhere i can download it? I have tried searching for it on Apple but never found it.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi also can't click on anything on the desktop, the only thing that is there and works are the words on the top, stopping at help. Also after every word i write, a pop up says 'alert cannot contact spell checker,' When i open safari i also cannot get it back to finder, and i can't search anything on the computer because after the second letter the screen flashes.
It started this morning i tried to write something in stickies and the computer went crazy to a blue screen and the loading circle started spinning around so i shut it down, when i loaded it up i had all these problems.
I have iBook g4 from 2005. What should i do, i don't know anything about computers. I tried searching online i tried to use killall Dock in terminal it didn't work, it said no matching processes were found.
