Is it possible to only get maybe the last 200 messages in my mailbox?
I've been using Gmail (web/mobile) version for years and want to start using Mail on my laptop.
I have maybe 15,000 messages and I don't want mail to download all of them. I just need maybe the last 100.
Mail updated its program and now when opening it for the first time, states there are 70,000 messages to download. Is there a way to reduce this ridiculous amount? No way are there that many messages in my lifetime. The beachball just spins and spins.

I had to re-configure my Exchange account today because it suddenly and inexplicably stopped working. When I re-configured, the inbox only seems to be downloading the previous three days of messages. I have searched all the configuration boxes and can't find anything about days of messages to download. I want it to re-downloard everything in the Inbox on the server.

The Apple Mail on my son's iMac 5, running OS X 10.6.8, shows the number of unread messages (9), but if I click on InBox, the messages themselves don't show up in the main window. This suddenly happened, and none of his old, read messages show up either. But he can access them just fine from his iPod, or through his Network Solutions web mail interface. Also, in Mail we can search part of his email address, and all the messages show up, read and unread! He has no rules set up. The connection doctor shows the connection is fine.

I am running mac os X version 10.5.8 and I find that mail will download not all my mail and will not send from any of my mailboxes.
I have set up mail with my googlemail account my mobileme account and my yahoo accounts. all are set up as stp and I have set them up according to all the online help lines. I have had mail set up for many months now, and have been trying to fix this problem for a long time now off and on.
One thing that I have tried is changing the outgoing port number from the default to 587, but still no joy.

I use an IMAP email account (provided by AOL) and every time I send an email it then comes in to my AOL sent items folder and displays an unread count on mail.app. It's infuriating.
I think imap stores the sent mail on it's server and I think I'm subscribed to all these folders so when it receives my sent mail, it sends a copy back to me.
I have tried creating a rule that mark all messages from me as read, but to no avail, it still does it anyway.
In an effort to make Mail more gmail-like, I selected the "View>Organize by thread" option. However, this only seems to group messages in my inbox and doesn't include my sent messages within the same conversation.
Is this how threaded messages are supposed to work? Just one side of a conversation? Or is there a setting to get my sent messages to show up in the threaded conversation?
I am using Mac Mail to check my gmail acct via IMAP. I am using the settings specified by google. I have selected the appropriate folders and mapped them using the "Use this folder for..." menu item. My sent messages are both in the Sent folder (for a while, then they disappear) and below in my Gmail>Sent Mail folder (always current). I have the option selected to store them on the server.
I purchased TV series from itunes in HD and two episodes will not download...I get errors. I think it is because I purchased the series in HD. I have tried deleting the entire series and reloading it but this caused my computer to freeze.
I would like to try the standard version of the program but cannot purchase it or exchange it through itunes.

I've setup my Gmail IMAP account in Mail 5.3. I've configured my gmail account to only show in imap the inbox, sent mail, junk and drafts to get rid of the pesky "All Mail" box. Sending emails from Mail works fine (and they've been copied into my gmail sent box as well), but Mail stopped downloading new messages in the inbox after the initial setup. I don't have any filters on.

How do I turn this feature off? If I have a message in the middle of being composed, and click Get Mail, off the draft message goes whether I'm ready to send this or not. This is an old issue, and generally I just try to remember not to check mail when I have a message in progress. But I can't find a screen anywhere in Mail Prefs to turn this feature off. In other words, I only want mail to send messages when I the Send paper airplane icon, not in response to my checking incoming messages. I'm running OS 10.5.8 and Mail v. 3.6 (936).

Checked to see if for some reason mail is being downloaded to another box but not so.I know that mail is being sent because I can receive it on my iphone under same email address.Email was working ok until yesterday when this started happening. I've just set up Mail to use my university email account. It's an IMAP account, so all my incoming mail uses the IMAP server, and all my outgoing mail uses the SMTP server. It does everything just fine, except it won't save any of my messages into the Sent folder. I have ticked the box in Preferences in mail which asks you whether you want to save sent messages, yet it still refuses to do so.

But before I do, is there a way to download all the emails from my mail server from all time? I only set Leopard's Mail client up on March 8th, so I only have emails from March 8th and after on Leopard. I want to have email from since I registered my Gmail account years ago.

Every now and then (it's becoming more common, actually) Mail will note that a new message has come in, but when I click on the new message, I find that it has replaced the new message with an old message from my Inbox (or a folder). In order to read the actual new message, I have to go online to my email provider to read it.

Has anyone else encountered this and/or does anyone know how to force Mail to re-download the headers? Simply right-clicking the Sent Messages mailbox and hitting "Synchronize" doesn't seem to work.

I am using Mail in Tiger on a brand new iMac. The mail service is from .Mac.
All of a sudden I cannot send mail from my main Mac. My other 2 work fine so I know it's program issue. I called my internet provider and they told me i had to contact Apple so I thought I'd start here. She did suggest that I delete my mail account and set it back up. I'm willing to try this, but I can't loose all my mail. So, I have a back up on time machine if I need it, but I'm not sure how to re enter it into mail.

I do have one problem though with mail - I've stored all my important emails, but if I now go back, some of them are completely blank - I can't see the content of the mail, the email is just completely empty. I've closed down and restarted and have also deleted the mail boxes and added them again but still the same problem.
My OS 10.6.1 started to show duplicate mail messages (Exchange mail account). Also, the "SENT" ( Exchange account folder) is empty in spite of many sent emails!

To clarify, when I open Mail I have a window that shows all my incoming messages, both unread and read. Sometimes after I read a message I want to be able to go back and quickly find it. This could be several days later and in the meantime I have 50 more saved messages and trying to find it is difficult. Is there some way to highlight it in color or flag it so I can easily go back and find it? I am running 10.5.8 although I doubt that has any bearing on anything.

View 7 Replies View Relatedwhat's gone wrong with one of my POP accounts in Mail? I was curious that I had not received any messages on one account for a couple of weeks, but it's mainly mailing lists that go to that account and traffic is sometimes light so I didn't notice sooner. Once I realised I'd been missing postings, I eventually discovered a couple of hundred messages on the server that hadn't been downloaded by Mail, but I can't work out how to get them downloaded! If I select Get Info on the account in Mail, it tells me there are 198 messages on the server, and they are all marked as new, ie not downloaded yet. But checking for new messages results in no messages being detected.
I've tried disabling and re-enabling the account and changing the passwords to try to get Mail to recognise a change and check the account properly, but no luck so far.
2.16 GHz Intel C2S, 1GB RAM, bought in July.
Just Archived & Installed about 2 hours ago, and everything looks fine so far. No installation problems (though I was food shopping and by the time I came back things were fine).
However, the first weird quirk I found was that when I attempt to delete one of my inbox messages in Mail, it won't let me delete. I get this error message:
"The message "(e-mail subject name)" could not be moved to the mailbox "Deleted Messages - AOL Mail. The IMAP command "UID COPY" (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox "INBOX" with server error: UID COPY failed Deleted Messages: no such mailbox."
For some reason Mail won't delete my sent messages - deleting them just changes the subject / sender line colour from black to grey but they don't go anywhere.
View 18 Replies View RelatedEver since I upgraded to Leopard over a year ago, my Mail.app has been pretty buggy. my mail.app is currently set up to connect to my university IMAP server with SSL and password authentication. Before I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, mail would always retrieve any new mail on the IMAP server every minute and any time I press get mail. Ever since I upgraded however, the get mail function hasn't worked exactly as it should.
Sometimes get mail would work, sometimes it won't, and sometimes it takes a long time for my computer to automatically retrieve new e-mails. The weird thing is, connection doctor shows no connection abnormality, and if get mail doesn't work, I can get it to work again if I quit and reopen mail, which is always a pain. Mail on my iPhone works perfectly (syncs to my MBP), and I have already tried deleting mail.app, reinstalling from my Leopard DVD and basically resetting all settings.
