My browser and other application keeps timing out. It times out for 30 seconds. then its alright for quite sometime , then it times out again for another 30 seconds or so. Then it works fine again. I have the Macbook Pro Unimodel 15.4", Mac OS X 10.6.4 . The pings are alright. just my browser and the other applications. I have a WRT54GC linksys router at home. What seems to be the problem?

I am having massive amounts of trouble connecting to my Wi-Fi router, currently running 10.7.4 and just done a totally fresh install (no time machine restore) I've seen people having this problem a lot but those posts were from last year (around 10.7.2) I've tried creating a new location and renewing the DHCP lease, connecting over ethernet works fine what on earth is going on here!?

I used to connect wirelessly through a router. I can't connect anymore with my macbook, I have a message "connection timeout" when I choose appropriate network and type the code (I tried both WPA and WEP). The thing is I can connect without any issue onto the same network using a pc.
I have also a partition with Windows vista on my macbook but still I can't go online.
I´ve massive trouble with connecting my wireless network via Airport. I´ve a MacBook (2008) with Lion. My connection was working till last week. I´vnt changed any setting or something..I was working like every day. From one secound to another the connection to my network was broken. When I try to connect to my network my Mac gives a trouble message: "timeout". I allready checked my router config (192.168.0.1 as admin) and everything is fine. No MAC Filter! Everything is set like it´s written in the apple manual. I allready restarted my router. Plugged it completly off. Not working. I was so desperated that I installed my system (Lion) new 2 days ago. The connection problem is still there! I don´t now where the problem is! I can connect with my MacBook to any other wireless network and via ethernet. The router is working fine because I can connect with my other laptop to it (by the way with 2 iphone as well). Do anyone no this problem? I don´t know what to do now.

The computer works fine I've tried to turn it back on and off and it works ok.
I'm on a boat in Fiji, using a Vodafone wireless dongle, and keep losing my connection. My vodafone software and my apple network software show I'm still connected, but suddenly I can't get into another page, or if I'm downloading a software update, I get a message that I have a timeout error. I then disconnect my connection and re-connect and then things start happening again. However, I have not been able to stay active long enough to download my apple software updates which is really frustrating. It seems to happen more often when I'm downloading something sizeable, like a video or software update, but happens other times as well. I'm a mac novice, (bought this, my first mac about 10 months ago) and not terribly computer savvy to begin with. Looking through this forum, I'm confused by much of what I read, but I'm beginning to think this problem may be beyond my capacity to solve.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a noticed a couple of times when I move touch the MBP, I will hear what sounds like a hard disk "ping" sound, even though I have the hard disk sleep mode disabled on batter / power - everything functions perfectly though. It sounds like something tapping metal - only one "ping" sound (not constant ticking). Mine has the Hitachi 250GB hard disk. Should I be concerned and what is it?

So far so good with the computer but if I pick it up fast or jostle it around, I hear this clicking type noise coming from the area of the hard drive. I have been told that this is a sensor locking down the hard drive before the computer falls and hits the floor for example and is nothing to worry about. Is this the case? Again, it only happens when I give the computer a quick movements and once it happens, I can't reproduce the sound until the computer has been still for a while which makes sense if this is a safety feature. Also, I can only get the computer to "click" when the screen/lid is open and the computer is awake which also backs up the safety feature explanation.
I just want to make sure I have nothing to worry about. My 2008 white Macbook will not make this clicking sound but I have been told that is will but you just can't hear it. My guess is the aluminum amplifies the sound a bit.
I have enabled the prompt for a password when waking from screensaver and this works fine as long as I respond to the password prompt quickly. However, if I don't respond fairly quickly then the password prompt disappears leaving a black screen with just the mouse pointer visible. No matter what I type I can't bring the password prompt back up and therefore can't gain access. The only way I can do this is to press the power button and wait for 5 minutes or so before bringing it back out of sleep and typing my password more quickly.
The machine is a new iMac 2.4G 24" if that makes any difference. All latest updates applied.

Using iCloud through Mail on OSX 10.7.4, I cannot send any emails.I receive them just fine, but it will always timeout when trying to send emails.The smtp server I seem to be on is p02-smtp.mail.me.com. I tried to ping it and it has 100% packet loss, although this might just mean they reject ICMP requests.Sending from my iPhone or iCloud on the web works just fine.

Recently, it won't let me sign it. It just loads for 5 minutes or so then gives me a network timeout error. However, I am able to access the site on internet explorer using my PC.
Is it possible to control the value of the SMTP time out setting? Occasionally when I send an email, mail.app attempts to use an SMTP server that is available only via a VPN connection (such as the SMTP behind the corporate firewall at work). When it can't reach such a server, it takes about 5-10 minutes until it finally brings up a dialog to let me switch to a reachable SMTP host. I would like to change that 5-10 minute value to something more reasonable like 30 seconds.

Im trying to connect to my Linksys router downstairs which is password protected. The airport sees the wireless network but when I try and connect and insert the password i get a 'connection timeout' message.

So, this afternoon everything was fine until a few hours ago when the internet connection inexplicably started giving problems. Before that, I was just browsing on the web. I never messed with any network configurations.
I own an iMac 27" (Mac OS X version: 10.6.3) that keeps asking for a WEP password. I write it down but the only thing I get is a "Connection timeout" message.
I'm using a SMC router (ADSL 2 Barricade G) by the way. I understand WEP isn't the best choice, but the tecnhician said it was the only way to make all three computers have internet access. With WPA, the two Windows laptops had problems conecting. I changed the client to "No WEP/ No WAP" and every computer can connect to the internet. However, this isn't the desired solution for obvious reasons.
On the Mac, I removed the old network settings. I tried the $ (and 0x) trick but it didn't work. I also removed the old network passewords from the Keychain. I know the WEP password is right, because I used it on both Windows machines when I changed the client type back to WEP Only.
Since the SMC router doesn't display the WEP password, I'll download some password recovery software to find it out. I doubt this will work, but I'm running out of options. I'm not a tech guy.
I want to know how to increase the unread messages timeout in the mac mail like the option which is in Outlook reading pane time out settings.

When I right click Ping in iTunes it only gives me the option to "open in new window".
I'd like to get rid of it all together. I don't care what friends are listening to nor do I care what artists are up to. This feature is completely useless.
How about something useful like offering Apple Lossless or give me a way to download music as it's meant to be heard.
What is "Ping" wants to connect to google using protocol ICMP?" I monitor all my incoming traffic so is this something to forever allow?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had my MBP since June and occasionally I hear a DING or PING sound. I usually can't see or find any reason for it, though today I had a message from MSN Messenger that someone wanted to add me to her contact list.
I have no idea what the sound indicates, but it does seem to be happening more frequently.
I tried to do a search but nothing came up.
So I've got a new MBP and am trying to connect to my iMac network shares, but I can't even ping it. It shows up in finder, but if I click on it I get a connection failed error. If I ping it I just get timeouts. I can ping my my ipod, and my ipod can ping and connect to the imac. But the MBP cannot connect to the iMac. The iMac cannot connect to the MBP either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat seems to be on some kind of time schedule, my network connection times out. The message "a connection timeout occured" is displayed, rendering my attempts at re-connection useless. After hours of troubleshooting(my router included) and checking out other Mac forums, I have no solutions but to power cycle my router. This pretty much makes my MB useless unless using a wired internet connection outside of my home network. I've done tons of research online and have encountered hundreds of people with the same problem. My machine is a late 2011 Macbook Pro.
