I'm looking to buy an Iomega Minimax to compliment my MacMini but a key question someone who owns it already might be able to answer;
I've had issues in the past with external HDs not powering down after a short while of not being accessed, I leave my mini on the whole time and it's in my bedroom so it's important it spins down after a period of non use but can auto spin back up when required. Does it do this successfully?

One ended up in my hands after a recording gig. I have a mac pro with some extra slots, and would be better suited to mount the drive.
Can't for the life of me figure out how to pop the case...or if its a SATA drive for that matter. I omega wont even tell me on their product overview!

Periodically, my iOmega external HDD unmounts (dismounts?). Only after disconnecting and reconnecting both the power and the USB (connected to a powered hub) does the HDD mount again. This has happened about 3 times in the last 3 months. The HDD is about 2 years old and I have had no other problem with it. It works fine other than the unmounting.

I have an Iomega HD (IHD) and two Macs. I can write things on my IHD at the office, but when I get at home it says I dont have the permissions to write.
Then I went to the"Obter informaes menu" ( I guess in english is Ask informations, or Obtain informations Menu ) and I change there the permissions to write and it still doesnt work.
What kind of partitions must I have to work at least on all Maccintosh?

iMac G4 Flat-panel 17", OS 10.4.11, 1MHz, 1.25 RAM: I've partitioned my IO HD to one, named it "Apple", set for PPC. It will startup from "Apple" only when selected each time, will not boot from "Apple" automatically. What have I missed doing?

I'm looking to get a new 1.5TB or 2TB hard drive with FW connectivity for mostly backup purposes.
It seems that Iomega makes some of the most price efficient drives of high capacity.
Does anyone have anything to say about the brand? Any horror stories or positive reviews?
Being that it's a backup drive for a lot of digital video... it needs to be reliable.

I bought a Minimax iomega 500 Gb hard drive last week, and it has worked perfectly until now - (after spending days removing data from my 2 Macs on to it).
I ejected it via the little icon in the finder window, like usual, switched off the power button at the back. When I went to use it again, I plugged the Firewire cable into my computer, switched the power button on at the back, and nothing! No icon on the desktop, I tried the other computer, different Firewire cables, but nothing. I need to get a USB to see if that works.

I just spent $$$ for a 120 Gb Rev drive and disks. I connected the Rev drive to my snow leopard mac and it doesn't work. It will read the disks but not write. So what's up?
Iomega has a message on their website that the Rev is not compatible with Snow Leopard "...due to a UDF driver conflict that will not be fixed."
Does the mean that Iomega won't update a simple driver to Snow Leopard? Is Iomega giving up on the Mac? Can someone explain this to me?

I bought an Iomega Prestige 1TB external harddrive a couple months ago with it running off my Macbook Pro.
I just flew down home for spring break, leaving my Macbook Pro charger at school. However, I do have the harddrive with all my backed up files. The problem is, my PC laptop (Dell, Windows XP) does not recognizes it. When I plug in the harddrive and turn it on, the computer recognizes that there is something plugged in (it gives me the option to safely remove hardware), but there is no sign of the drive anywhere.
Is there anyway my PC can read/recognize it?

What happens now is that sometimes it says that my disc isn't supported, and if I do get throught the burning nothing plays on my regular compact disc players. (I'm burning audio files)

I can not get my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 to recognize a 5 year old external hard drive from iomega. The product code is 31759000 RDHD-U. The hard drive powers up, all cables have been checked to work on other devices, and yet nothing happens when connected.

This may a well beaten subject, but I must get an answer.
I have used an Iomega External HD (black series/800/firewire) for about 6 months, using it to load up with important files.
Now all of a sudden, it does get recognized by either my Mac G5 (OS X 10.4) or my MacBook Pro. In fact, I get the Disk Insertion (initialize/ignore/eject) window.
Why initialize, that will only wipe out all of my files on the HD.

So I got this eSATA card for my MacPro a while back and was able to install quite easily. I've done a fresh install on a new harddrive of my OS and no longer have the driver disc for the eSATA card. Does anyone know a method for ripping the drivers from my old hard drive? Or does anyone know where I can actually get the driver? I can't seem to locate it anywhere on Iomega's site.

setup : 2x iMac 24" 10.5.6..wired to airport Xtreme, Iomega 500 GB HD connected via USB
this drive worked fine and has all the pics on it and was used to backup both iMac's via Time Machine.
Today the Airport Xtreme (AX) gives us a flashing orange light and informs us that the 500 GB Iomega disk needs to be connected to the mac and needs to be repaired.
so...we did, with a "disk appears to be OK " message after 'repair' mounting from within Disk Utility gives us : "The disk 500HD could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting."
(we did just that...!)
We also tried "Drive Genius" with the same results.
whether we hook the drive to the AX or directly to the iMac...no mounting.
The drive (and it's partition) does appear perfectly in both 'Disk Utility' and in 'Drive Genius'
(The iMac does mount other USB items like mem-sticks, camera's just fine.)
anybody any ideas how to get this working again ?

I was looking to buy an iomega hard drive because of its portability and firewire. Here's one I found on amazon at a discount : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Iomega-500GB...9149335&sr=8-1
Everything seems fine but for something so portable and easily lost (or stolen/misplaced) as well as carrying my entire mac backup (docs, photos, videos, etc.), I think password protection or some other security feature is essential nowadays.
Does anyone know whether the imoga hard drives have password protection or not? If not, are there any other hard drives with both firewire as well as good security?

I am running OS 8.6 and have installed the iomega ware for classic on it (I believe the driver is 6.2.3). The drive will power on when I insert the drive. The drive is recognized by the Iomega Tools but will not recognize when a disk is inserted. The drive does not even try to spin up when a disk is inserted. Iomega tools says no disk is inserted. The only way to eject the disk is to put a paperclip in the "emergency eject" hole.

I bought a 1TB Iomega Prestige drive, it worked great for a few months. Started making loud clicking sounds. Iomega sent me a replacement drive (refurbished).
I am using it as my time machine backup in Leopard, so it was really just a matter of plugging it in, formating it with the OSX file system and setting it up for time machine.
When attempting to format from Disk Utility, I get an error (see screenshot).
(Additional info: I can access it and format it without any problems from Windows 7 based PC).
