OS X :: New Iomega Hard Drive Won't Appear On Desktop?

I bought a Minimax iomega 500 Gb hard drive last week, and it has worked perfectly until now - (after spending days removing data from my 2 Macs on to it).
I ejected it via the little icon in the finder window, like usual, switched off the power button at the back. When I went to use it again, I plugged the Firewire cable into my computer, switched the power button on at the back, and nothing! No icon on the desktop, I tried the other computer, different Firewire cables, but nothing. I need to get a USB to see if that works.
My macbook air will not detect my iomega hard drive, the drive wont show up in disk utility. So theres no possible way of formatting it. Also is there any way to format the hard drive without deleting any of the files on the drive?

Everything seems fine but for something so portable and easily lost (or stolen/misplaced) as well as carrying my entire mac backup (docs, photos, videos, etc.), I think password protection or some other security feature is essential nowadays.
Does anyone know whether the imoga hard drives have password protection or not? If not, are there any other hard drives with both firewire as well as good security?
This may a well beaten subject, but I must get an answer.
I have used an Iomega External HD (black series/800/firewire) for about 6 months, using it to load up with important files.
Now all of a sudden, it does get recognized by either my Mac G5 (OS X 10.4) or my MacBook Pro. In fact, I get the Disk Insertion (initialize/ignore/eject) window.
Why initialize, that will only wipe out all of my files on the HD.
I just got an Iomega prestige external hard drive, to work with my MacBook air. However, it seems to require two usb ports!? Is there some way to get around this?
setup : 2x iMac 24" 10.5.6..wired to airport Xtreme, Iomega 500 GB HD connected via USB
this drive worked fine and has all the pics on it and was used to backup both iMac's via Time Machine. Today the Airport Xtreme (AX) gives us a flashing orange light and informs us that the 500 GB Iomega disk needs to be connected to the mac and needs to be repaired.
so...we did, with a "disk appears to be OK " message after 'repair' mounting from within Disk Utility gives us : "The disk �500HD� could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting." (we did just that...!)
We also tried "Drive Genius" with the same results.
whether we hook the drive to the AX or directly to the iMac...no mounting.
The drive (and it's partition) does appear perfectly in both 'Disk Utility' and in 'Drive Genius'
(The iMac does mount other USB items like mem-sticks, camera's just fine.)
I recently loaded Leopard and then noticed that my iomega 500GB external drive is not recognised. Disk utility does not " see " it, and unplugging and restarting did not help. Can I get a software plug to fix this
After upgrading to 10.7,4 I can no longer access my external IOMega Prestige drive. This drive is encrypted/protected via IOMega's Drive Protection software.

For whatever reason, my Hard Drive icon has moved itself down a spot on the OS X desktop. It's the only icon on the desktop and when I put it back in the upper right corner like it was originally it stays until I reboot and then it's moved back down a "spot." Anyone run into this funny behavior?
For some reason, my desktop icons are stacked on my hard drive. I am able to drag the items to the trash or another folder but I cannot move them to another location on the desktop. I did check the "get info" on the desktop and the "locked" option is not checked. Any file that I download or save immediately appears in the top right corner of the desktop on top of the HD icon. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
My LaCie BigDisc HD won't mount on the desktop of my MacBook Pro. Is there some other place I can find and open the icons, or is there another procedure to follow to correct this problem?

2. my battery reader thingy says i got like 7 hours? with +2 brightness. thought it supposed to be near 10 hours (just doing websurfing,itunes,adium)2.5 should i calibrate it asap?
I have a Lacie Porsche 160 gb firewire drive, it worked well, I ve had it a couple of years. Now when I plug it in it won't show the disk image on the desktop. system profiler finds it and I have the Lacie upgrade tool and that checks it and says it is up to date. I have tried it on two other macbooks one older, one newer all Leopards, and one imac desktop. They all found it. so it appears to be a problem with my laptop only. I did use it with time machine but it ran out of space, Using another laptop I have deleted all lot of stuff off it and tried changing its name.
I need the stock Mac HDD desktop icon. Its the icon at the top right of this screen shot. [URL] Could someone please post a link or the file for me png format. I need it b/c i have 2 of them on my desktop b/c i have windows 7 on my mac too. I am going to modify the icon to have a transparent windows logo on top of the drive for my windows HDD. I had a black screen of death moment and since then, I've had a few weird anomalies with my iMac. I ran disk repair while logged in, and it told me there was a problem. I restarted in restore mode, and when I repaired the drive, it found no problems. I don't believe it.Â
1. My external hard drives do not appear on the desktop. They are mounted, and I can see them when I open the finder and the disk utility, but they won't show up on the desktop like they used to. I have played with finder preferences shutting the option to see them off and on, but this doesn't change anything. Very strnage.Â
2. iTunes completely whacked out. It "restored" itself by magic. Now all the Date Added dates are March 23rd. All of my podcasts disappeared, and all my settings were reset. I have no idea what else I lost. I want to restore from a back up, but I don't know how to do just my iTunes.
I have been searching through the internet looking for a comprehensive list of sorts, but to no avail. Having perused through the various set up threads in the picture gallery, I noticed that many members have external hard drive enclosures that markedly resemble the mac pro desktop. I was interested in purchasing one for myself, but didn't know of very many. Thus far, these are the ones I've got:

I moved mail from an exchange server to my computer to get around using to much space at work. I then dragged that folder to my desktop which created a .mbox file. When I try to move the .mbox file from my desktop to an external hard drive it wont move. a grey circle with an exclamation point appears. I tried doing it with Entourage close as well and got the same issue. Does anyone know the proper way for me to move the .mbox file from the desktop to the external hard drive?
I've just brought a new external Hard drive for my mac book pro and when I put the usb cable into the laptop nothing showed up on the desktop. I waited a few minutes but nothing happen and then I turned off the computer and did it again.
My hard drive is so full, I cannot boot to desktop. It shows eyeglasses in top right corner. I don't have another mac to make it a hard drive. Is there another workaround?
My Maxtor 500 external hard drive has suddenly stopped appearing on my desktop. My other external drives appear. I've tried hooking the drive to my MacBook Pro with the same results. The drive however, seems 'active'. The light on the front of the drive does its usual flashing routine when plugged into a new machine. I've never had a crashed drive before. Does it sound like this is what has happened, or does anyone have a clue as to what I should do?
