OS X :: Internet Connection Working Properly But No Access To Websites?
Nov 14, 2010
My Macbook Pro is connecting perfectly to my apartment's internet, but for some reason no websites seem to load. I've tried using Safari, Firefox and Chrome and none of them have worked for me. When I clicked "assist me" it said that my internet seems to be working properly, but when I tried pinging google.com the response was "4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss". Ethernet is working perfectly however and WiFi is working on my iPhone and on my roommate's computer. WiFi is working perfectly at the library as well, so I'm not sure if it's a problem with my computer or with the network.

I have a MacPro Early 2009, 2 ethernet ports.Ethernet 1 is connected to the LAN and Ethernet 2 is connected directly to a SSL Matrix console (an audio mixer), whom driver needs the used ethernet port to be first of the list in the Network connections list in System Preferences. So when I browse internet I can't use the Matrix's software, and vice versa.I had to create 2 different network positions to browse internet and to work with SSL Matrix, one with Eth 1 first place, another one with Eth 2 first place, and I always have to swap positions. Is there a way to force OSX to use by default the 2nd connection of the list for internet access?

My Internet connection is working fine, I can connect to adium, download a torrent, use an FTP client etc without problems. When I use Safari or any other browser I can't connect to any sites. I us usually get an error stating that it can't establish a connection or find the server. I'm using a Time Capsule as my router, I've tried resetting my modem, the Time Capsule, restarting the computer. The internet is fine, I'm connecting to adium etc, but the browser won't connect, when it does I can use the browser for a hour or 5 minutes, it's random. I've ride resetting the DHCP numerous times, the majority of the time it does nothing.

out of the blue about 3 months ago my MacBook(version10.4.11) started refusing to recognize my home wireless. the problem has now reached the point where it AT TIMES will display that the wireless newtwork is on in the toolbar yet the computer will not jump onto the internet. Now it has reached the point where it won't even show that it sees the wireless in the toolbar. I have reloaded all passwords , checked the Verizon wirelss set up, reloaded firefox , checked all firewalls. The wierd thing is that my kids macbook is fine. Mine is the one with the problem.I checked all my settingts to correspond/copy hers and they do. Have zapped pram too. It works fine EVERYWHERE else but home.

Has anyone really tried out the ability to access your OSX Partition from Windows yet? I'm able to see mostly everything but the one folder I want to see, my home folder! It just shows up empty. Maybe it's because I have my account password protected, but just for installing programs, not for logging in. Plus, if that was what is causing it to not work, Apple should have asked for a username and password to login to the folder. Will Apple ever get its Windows Bootcamp software working correctly? They sure can never get it on the first try.

This problem has been going on for a couple of months now. I use my macbook at 2 places: school and home. At school, when I click the school network under airport, it connects and shows the full bars. But when I open safari/firefox, the page won't load and I get the error message when you're not connected. However, sometimes after like an hour of persisting and retrying, it will be able to access the internet for a little bit for like an hour or so maybe, and then it'll stop working. At home, it's the same thing. It will connect to my home network (got wireless at home set up through my desktop PC), and show the full connection on airport, but it won't access the internet for the life of me. The difference is I can never gt it to connect unlike at school where it sometimes works, except that it worked for like one day out of the last 2 months (and I didn't change any settings then so it's not like I can attribute it to that). Also, I am absolutely positive that the networks of my home/school computer and the router settings etc. aren't to blame. Reason is that my friends with macbooks can access the internet both using my home network and the school network (the school one is obvious). What could possibly be going wrong? Any settings on my macbook that I can change / completely reset? Is the network card or something messed up? I'm contemplating just completely formatting my laptop to see if it fixes the issue. I have leopard installed btw.

I'm trying to share the internet connection on my windows vista partition. Until now it has been fine, but all of a sudden, yesterday, it stopped working. iPhone and mac both show self assigned IPs. I tried resetting and setting up a new ad hoc network and checked settings to make sure internet sharing was enabled, but still the mac and iPhone are not given their own IPs.

I use a 4G Galaxy Nexus to broadcast a private WPA2 network. The 4G signal is always strong, and I've verified that the internet is active on the broadcasting device, and that other non-Apple devices maintain a solid connection. However my macbook pro does not lose the network connection, the internet stops working only on the macbook pro and I must "turn Wifi Off" and back on using the top right menu icon in order for the internet connection to resume working on the laptop. It will stop working every 5-10 minutes.

There are some sites, like url...that won't load properly in Safari, Chrome, nor Firefox. I'm not able to hover over my account to sign-out, as well as not able to paste links to get them to shorten it. The site loads fine on my iPhone and iPad, but not on my Macbook Pro.Other sites like Mashable, I'm not able to view any of the galleries.I've tried logging in as a guest, still the same issue. I even tried disabling ALL the plugins that are on the mac, still, same issue.

After testing this on two different networks, same problem. For instance, I'll try to go to Google.com, works fine. Then I'll go to gmail.com, wont work. Go to drudgereport.com, go back to gmail.com and it works. This is happening with all websites. Sometimes they'll work, sometimes they wont. When they aren't, if I wait a few minutes, they suddenly work again.

The last 2 days my sites in safari haven't been displaying properly. Here's an example:
As you can see the page is displaying in half the window. Other users are having no problem in safari, just me. When I reset Safari the problem seems to go away, only to come back in a couple hours. This problem has only come about in the last couple days, anyone ever have this problem and know how to fix it?

I'm on holiday using my mobile phone (Nokia N80) to connect to the Internet over GPRS / EDGE / UMTS. Everything works like a charm, but often the Internet Connect applet drops the connection and just hangs disconnecting.
I'm running OS X 10.4.7 on a 17" Macbook pro, but I have the same result on a iBook G4, same OS X version, and even trying with a different mobile phone (Nokia 6600) and different network service provider.

Here is my setup: DSL Modem bridged to Airport Extreme 802.11n (Older Model - not dual band)
1 PC Running Ubuntu - Ethernet into Airport
1 Mac Pro 10.5 - Ethernet into Airport
1 Macbook 10.6 - Wireless
1 Macbook Pro 10.6 - Wireless
1 PS3 - Ethernet to Airport Express/Wireless
For some reason, all of the Macs on the network are having bizarre connection issues with particular websites, and I cannot figure out what the cause is. The main culprit is google, and any google related site including youtube. For instance, if I go to my gmail, many times it will not get past the initial "Loading" page you normally see for only a second or two. If it gets past that, the subjects of the messages will load, but where my chat and calendar normally show up it just says something to the effect of "Failed to Load" in a gray box. With youtube, the video pages will load, but instead of the video there is just a giant black box where no video ever loads. The same thing happens with other video sites like hulu, cbs, abc, etc. I can refresh the page a bunch and eventually it will load, but it takes a long time.
Oddly enough some sites, macrumors included, seem to have no issues loading at all. This is true on all of the Macs, whether I use Firefox or Safari. I would say it's my connection, however the Ubuntu machine has no problems whatsoever. I can check side by side and the Ubuntu box has no problem opening pages that the Macs are just choking to death on. It takes ages on the Macs just to load the youtube homepage, but it is up in seconds on the Ubuntu machine. I assume the PS3 is fine as well - I don't use the browser but have had no problems with the online features of the PS3. I've tried switching to OpenDNS, which actually made things worse (Google pages just stopped loading altogether). I've flushed the DNS cache, rebooted everything numerous times, disabled all plugins/extra apps, reformatted one of the machines (I needed to go back to 10.5 anyway) and just nothing seems to work.

I've created a few PHP websites on my mac mini before uploading them. I placed the website files in the 'Sites' folder of my user account and turned on 'Personal Web Sharing' in the Sharing preferences and could access them fine. All of a sudden, I can no longer access the sites through my web browser - I'm given the message that my browser cannot connect to the server. Any ideas why this might have suddenly started happening? I installed MySQL last week - would that affect it in any way?!

I am new to Mac and have been struggling with this issue for the last week or so: there are a few websites I cannot access anymore (such as www.westpac.com.au, www.telstra.com.au, www.optus.com.au and a few others). As far as I can guess it is not:strictly *.au website related (or at least I think) because I can access some others *.au websites and some other in *.com or *.fr don't work either. My ISP (iinet in Australia) as the websites mentioned above work from my PC when I connect it from home. Below the result from a PING on the first 2 websites in the list above:
PING www.westpac.com.au (203.24.6.90): 56 data bytes
36 bytes from TenGigabitEthernet7-1.ken29.Sydney.telstra.net (203.50.20.41): Communication prohibited by filter
Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks Src Dst
4 5 00 5400 0ea6 0 0000 38 01 978d 10.0.1.4 203.24.6.90
PING www.telstra.com.au (144.140.108.25): 56 data bytes
--- www.telstra.com.au ping statistics ---
37 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
I have this issue from both my iMac and my Macbook Air, on which I have set up no firewall or other specific filter. I am using a Belkin modem, on which I have desactivated the WiFi to use a TimeCapsule as a WiFi router. I get the same issue when I try to connect from Safari, Firefox or Chrome. I have exhausted all tips and tricks I have from the PC word.

There are a couple of websites I want to restrict my younger children from. I tried to enter them in the parental controls in System Preferences using the "Try to limit access to adult websties automatically" option, and entering the sites I wanted to restrict them from. What I got was kids asking me every five seconds to approve another website - it seems that only sites on the approved list under Customize were allowed. That isn't what I wanted. I wanted only to enter two or three sites that they are specifically precluded from.

I am having trouble accessing select websites (apple.com, usps.com, timewarnercable.com, vivalavinyl.org, amongst others). I tried with Safari, Firefox, Opera, IE, but to no avail. I used to be able to access these sites with no problem, and I am truely baffled as to why I can't get to them all of a sudden.
Here'S the error message I get in Firefox:
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.apple.com.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to computers so I need some help. As of 11 Nov, I was no longer able to access any secure sites (email, banks etc) on either Safari or Firefox, both of which were the most recent editions. I've not had any problems before. I was a bit lost and I've been looking at all kinds of websites to try and sort out the problem, but to no avail. I was advised to look at disk utility and it said I needed to repair the HD by re-installing using the OS X disk. It's made no difference. I've tried checking the Secure Web Proxy box in System Preferences, but it wont hold.

My dad set up a managed account for me on my family's iMac and now Safari 4.0.3 will give me the the following error message every time I click on a link to or type the address of a secure website:
Safari can't open the page "pageAddress" because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server "serverAddress".
I'm curious about what might cause this because it's stopping me from using a lot of user login pages (i.e.: the Google Accounts login page.) Is there some way that my dad could fix this (I'm not the administrator, as mentioned first.)?
