OS X :: Ubuntu Partition Not Shown Up On Bootloader

Sep 10, 2009

I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 onto a small 10GB partition that I quickly made in Disk Utility (resized my HFS+ partition while leaving my Windows 7 one intact). Upon reboot, I hold Option, and it only shows the 2 partitions (OS X & Windows). I was hoping it would show the Ubuntu partition. Since it doesn't, I have to use the Windows 7 bootloader to boot into Ubuntu. So, is there a way to edit my MacBook's bootloader to show all 3 partitions?

Applications :: Ubuntu Installed On VirtualBox - Resolution Setup

I've been trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 on VirtualBox. However, when I try, even in full screen, it only shows a part of the screen. I know how to change the res if I could access the menu, but I can't. Can someone help? BTW I can't finish the installation until res is better so the set up window is still in the middle.

Windows On Mac :: Ubuntu Block Out (Installed On External Drive)

Sep 6, 2009

I tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 on 500 GB external drive and it will now no longer boot Ubuntu nor Mac. I need to know how to fix this. Things already tried:

*Backing up harddrive and installing Snow Leopard (10.5.4 is what it is)
*Deleting the external harddrive and reformatting it.

I want to be able to keep all my mac files. The file with a ? appears when the Ubuntu livecd is not in. (that is the only thing that boots).

OS X :: Master Boot Record Not Found / Installed Ubuntu?

Aug 12, 2009

Ok here's the situation. I'm trying to fix my brothers laptop at the moment and reinstall Leopard. He installed ubuntu and it seems to have deleted the Master Boot record. I've managed to get Leopard to install but the mouse clicker doesn't work. I've managed to narrow down the problem to the MBR, the master boot record.

In terminal I've typed in sudo fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0 This has come up with the error "master boot record not found". I'm now trying to find a way to put the Master boot record back.

OS X :: Installed New HD - After Restore Need To Restart Computer

I just installed a 500gb hard drive into my macbook pro. Then I tried installing the osx using my 10.5 leopard disc. After restoring everything, I restart the computer and then I get the following message in 5 different languages: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the power button again". Even after multiple restarts I get the same message.

Windows On Mac :: New Drive Installed XP Installed Now No Drivers Or Internet?

Dec 5, 2010

Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.

My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.

After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).

So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.

OS X :: 10.6 And W7 Pro 64 On Bootcamp - How To Add Ubuntu

Dec 9, 2010

I need to add an ubuntu partition to my macbook pro (5.1 version, first unibody 15" from oct 2008). I need ubuntu to SBF flash my phone. Windows 7 64 bit pro has issues with Motorola USB drivers. Anyway, trust me, I need ubuntu to boot from HD. It cannot be running on livecd, and it cannot be running on virtual machine. Now, I have used REfit before to dual boot OSX and linux. But I really want to maintain my windows partition. Is there a way I can maintain the two partitions I currently have and install ubuntu to a third 10 gig partition?

OS X :: Cannot Boot Into Ubuntu CD

Feb 13, 2009

I am having trouble booting into an Ubuntu CD. Sorry about posting it here, but I thought that a Mac community would better suit it. When I first got this machine (was second hand) it came preloaded with OS 9. Immediately I wiped the HD and install a copy of Ubuntu 8.04. The CD was put away and not touched since today. Since then I have install OS X (best OS ever!) and recently I got my hands on a new HD, so I decided to install Ubuntu on it. My only problem is that it won't boot up from the CD.

Again, as I said before, this CD has not been touched since I booted up and installed from it, so long ago. The only possible difference in my computer is the new HD. As soon as I hold down 'C', it shows a white screen and that is it. I have also tried holding option and selecting the CD, but as soon as I hit the arrow, it just displays the same screen again. I will also say that I have no trouble in booting from the Mac OS X install DVD. It was the Live CD that I used last time, but I also have both the live and alternate install disks of the same version.

Software :: Cannot Get Ubuntu To Mount CDs

May 15, 2008

I'm running Ubuntu Hardy Herron under VMWare fusion. I'm giving it a test drive to see what its all about. I installed it from the disk image I downloaded from Canonical website. Anyway, I can't get Ubuntu to mount CDs. This works fine with WIndows XP running under fusion.

I wonder if the installation was corrupted or something. The installation seemed to go well but the Ubuntu file was huge. Some linux versions have a way to verify the file prior to installation but I didn't see a way to do so for Ubuntu.

OS X :: Display Looks Better On Ubuntu (No Dithering)

Apr 23, 2009

I have the latest generation mini and it runs Leopard. I bought a Samsung P2370 23" 1080p display for it and was pretty impressed. However, I noticed that there is noticeable dithering on some websites (usually with darker solid colors). I went to the same websites on other machines and didn't see the dithering artifacts, so I started to get curious. I popped in an ubuntu live cd into my mini and noticed that I saw no dithering at all. I've done the calibration under displays, btw. I wouldn't think a ubuntu livecd would show-up my osx install.
