Sep 21, 2010I need to create a histogram for school. How do you create one in Numbers '09?

View 2 RepliesI have no experience in Numbers so I was wondering if I could create a histogram in Numbers and then bring over the histogram chart over to Pages? And how would I do that exactly? Can that be done? I need to do something like this so that my lab report for my Physics class could look a bit better typed and everything and without any sort of glue or tape.
View 1 Replies View RelatedGot Numbers 08 installed, never really used it as didn't have a need. Created a spreadsheet the last day with some survey results for a project and saved it.
My spreadsheet looks like:
(A1-Grey) - Sex - Age - Multiple choice question
(Blank-Grey) - Male - 30 - Answer1
(Blank-Grey) - Female - 25 -Answer2
With a blank column on the left that's grey and the top heading thing being grey. Bit lost though with turning say the "Multiple choice question" column into a pie-chart (or any sort of chart tbh). I choose the header and all the 30 or so replies in that column and select chart -> pie-chart. It presents me with a pie-chart "Chart1" with just blue - 100% and the legend stating : blue - Untitled 1. How would I go about making the chart with the data I need? (I know I'm selecting it wrong or have it laid out wrong or something) or editing a chart manually.
How do I create running page numbers in Pages? I need to write a paper using APA format.

I've been ripping my hair out trying to find the answer to this.
In Numbers for Mac, I need to fill a column automatically with a series of integers (1 - 50) and then the next column with a function that interacts with the first column.
For example:
Column A - 1 - 5
Column B - (value in Column A * 5)
I can't figure out how to do it in Numbers When I try to fill column a with 1 - 50 all it does is fill all 1's and I cant find an option how to make that change so it automatically numbers when I highlight them.
The best I can describe is how in Excel you can type 1 in the first cell, then highlight a bunch of cells and the little box appears that lets you click "Fill Series"
See above title. i get that there's the "degree(cell)" function, but there has to be an easier way to change the settings so you can just input in degrees rather than radians.
like how calculators have a degrees and radians mode, i find it so hard to believe that there isn't one in numbers. if there really isn't, this is an incredibly flawed program.

I want to create a disk image of a Mac drive (.dmg file).I figured that it might not be a good idea to try and image a live disk, so I unmounted it (the user dragged the disk icon to the eject icon), and I confirmed it was unmounted by looking at /Volumes. To be clear here, this isn't the boot volume, that is /dev/disk0./dev/disk1 is an internal drive - as it happens it's the original drive for this OSX 10.4 G5, AND /Volumes/HITACHI is the mount point for an external USB drive.I have tried this twice. On both occassions, things seemed to go well, but after a few minutes (about 10 - 20 minutes), I observed that the target file on /Volumes/HITACHI stopped growing, then a bunch of unpleasant stuff started to happen:
* I did lsof /Volumes/HITACHI/MacHD_20120201.dmg and found the PID of the diskimage binary, ps waux showed it was doing nothing (CPU% was 0.0). This indicates a stuck process to me.
* The hdutil command stopped producing '.'
* I could not cancel the hduitl command
* I could not rm the MacHD_20120201.dmg file
* I could not ls the /Volumes/HITACHI directory
* unlink also hung
A little further into this, the Mac became unresponsive. I observed that the disk was now mounted again (grrr!). As a work around I switched the USB drive off and on, and Mac came good - all my terminals started to respond, the GUI responded for the user.My workaround has been to use CCC to make a clone of the disk - but I don't like this because I think .dmg files are much more convenient (for a start, now that I've used CCC I can't use the USB drive for anything else).
* Is my methodology wrong? Do I really need to umount the /dev/disk1
* Can you disable finder from automounting an internal hard drive (I am particularly interested in this)Â

I've recently switched from the dark side to Apple and am converting an Excel spreadsheeet. The spreadshet keeps track of subscriptions, things that a re due once a year, etc.. One of the spreasheet's formulas uses 'NOW()'.. The user can specify a day-range, like 15, so that the spreadsheet would highlight due dates within 15 days..  MS handles dates in serial numbers which allows date comparisons ( I'm guessing you already know all of this ) .. anyway, For example, the user enters the renewal or due date in a certain cell and then the next cell would subtract that date's serial number from the current date's serial number using something like 'B3-NOW()'.. The resulting number could be cast to an integer and compared to the '15' .. and if the result is less than that, aka 'due within 15 days', then the cell would be highlighted red.. I gave up on the conditional formatting but I don't know how to use the equivalent of 'NOW()'..

View 3 Replies View RelatedHave used AppleWorks 6 for years - used for spreadsheet application. Range of sheet: A80 thru AG 80. Printing on Canon MX850 requires 2 (two) pages to legibly cover contents. Was told by Apple Tech to use "Numbers" application as found in Snow Leopard for future tech support, as AppleWorks is no longer recognized by Apple. Same spreadsheet was copied from AppleWorks to "Numbers". When asked to print, 48 (forty-eight) pages would be required! Apple Tech was unable to solve problem, after a one-hour telephone call with Level 2 Support.

The track pad and mouse work perfectly, and when I startup my keys will type in my password, but after logging in they stop typing. The F keys and the command and control and option keys also work along with delete and the arrows but enter and neither shifts work.

Each time it starts up is says that it has about 925MB remaining to back up. It will then back up about 2MB and then it will finish that. It then says preparing and will do about a 1MB backup and will say it is finished.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just have a quick question about Numbers (iWork '09). I need to graph some supply and demand graphs for school. How would I go about doing this? Whenever I create a graph based on a chart, it just plots each row as it's own line. I can only edit the values in the Y-axis, and obviously I need to be able to work with the X-axis as well.
Update: I played around with it more and figured it out. I guess you have to graph it as a scatter plot and then choose to connect the dots, and remove the dots, rather than choose the line graph, whose icon looks just like a graph of supply and demand.
I received an email from work containing an attachment that is in numbers format (.numbers), however, I don't have iWork on my Mac.
I need to be able to view this document. Is there any way I can view it without having iWork?
I've seen alot of advanced tips here but relatively little knowledge for simple but important things.
How can iCal show Week Numbers?
I'm a recent switcher from Excel to Numbers. For the life of me, I cannot find a way in Numbers to "freeze" headings so that as you scroll down or across the sheet they remain visible.
I'd be grateful for help; the matter is not covered in the video tutorials, nor in my little manual that came with iWorks, nor on the Help Menu.
I am using numbers for my accounts receivable. I have a formula which some dude created for me *years* ago that I used in Claris Works and it *seems* to work most of the time in Numbers. Anyway, the formula provides for either a debit or a credit and a balance. This is how it normally looks. However, for some weird reason the balance gets all screwed up whenever I enter cents into the equation. Check this out. I entered 5192 in the credit section and it changed the balance accordingly. However, when I add the 70 cents (.70) to the credit, the balance looks all messed up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use office 08 for excel. Some of the boxes I use are formatted so when I enter the date say 22feb hit enter, it corrects it to read Feb. 22. When I import into numbers, and try to do it, there is no format for that cell, I type 22feb, and that s what shows in the cell, Is there a way of formatting these to do the way the excel spreedsheet works?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a template for legal billing. The only thing I'm really having a problem with is the formula that multiplies time by hourly rate. The time spent cells are formatted to show it as 4h 5m ... and that totals perfectly with the SUM formula. When I multiply it with a rate cell formatted to currency the math is fine, but the format stays as 00h 00m ... even when I format that cell to currency.
I've set up boot camp before and i know I've heard of other people using MacOSx, Windows, and LInux all on one HD with different partitions, but will the Mac have a limit to how many partitions I can have on one HD? I think i wanna run 4 OS's on one HD; OSX, WinXP-SP2, Windows7 Beta, and some Linux/Unix(maybe Free BSD or something cheap).
