OS X :: How To Choose A Flash File ( .SWF ) As A Screensaver?

Jul 30, 2009

A friend of mine has made me a flash file as a screensaver.

Will I be able to choose a flash file ( .SWF ) as a screensaver, and where should I put it so it shows on my screensavers list?

Safari :: How To Choose File Locations For Each Download

Mar 30, 2012

I've recently switched from Firefox to Safari for using my email and can't figure out how to download files to different folders in my computer. It keeps downing loading them into a Safari Downloads file. I figured out how to change the defualt location, but I have to go back into the download file folder and move the downloaded files to the correct folders. I want it to ask each time like Firefox. There has got to be a fix for this as this is taking a lot more time than it did in Firefox.

Software :: Converting SWF To AVI (Flash 8 Pro File)

May 12, 2010

I am working on a project where I am to supply simple little cartoons which are to duplicate the look of drawings on a whiteboard - nothing fancy - line drawings in black, blue, red or green. My client, however, wants the files in AVI or WMV so his video guy can edit them and add corny video transitions. Ultimately they are intended for an intranet educational website.

But they do NOT want SWF files. They insist on getting AVI or WMV files. I am working with Flash 8 Pro (CS2) on my PowerMac G4 using Mac OS 10.3.9. I also have a PC running XP, but it doesn't have Flash. I've tried a free SWF > AVI converter which only works on Windows, but when it actually works, it takes a 12 KB SWF file and generates a 218 MB AVI file! Is there some easier solution?

OS X :: 7GB Dmg File Not Going On A 16GB Flash Drive?

Aug 11, 2009

Ok it's like this, i recently bought my Mac and in preparation before i got it i stocked up certain apps i wanted on my Windows desktop, now I have a 7 GB dmg file that won't go on a 16GB flash drive and it's driving me crazy. I just don't know why it can't go, i re-formatted it and it still won't go.

Is there something I don't know about dmg files? are they actually larger than they appear, if not I need to find another means of transfering this file and all I have is this flash drive, no connector cables or anything like that.

OS X :: Mounting Img File To Bootable Flash Drive?

Apr 5, 2009

I'm trying to restore the OS onto my netbook and there's a tool that is supposed to be able to automatically mount a restore image onto a flash drive. Thing is, every time I try it, it only allows me to select drive bays without discs in them, so it's sort of worthless as you cannot begin the download without selecting a valid drive.

I found the direct download that the program so I have the .img file now but I need to place it onto the flash drive in order to install the OS. In the past I've just dragged the content files after mounting them in Finder over to a formatted disk but this is now consistently producing a blank boot on the netbook. Is there a command in Terminal or an option in disk utility that I am not seeing to mount the image rather than copying the files? I'm thinking that it's missing something by simply copying the files.

QuickTime :: Cannot Drag File To Flash Drive Or Burn To DVD

Jun 7, 2012

I just finished a project in FCP. I exported it in QT format, and then created an iDVD project with it. Looks great. I've burend several DVD's, everything is fine. The movie file is 14.2 GB in size. Now, I need to drag the .mov file to a flash drive or SDHC card go I can give it to someone to play on their laptop. For some reason, I am getting a "File too large for volume's format" error no matter what I do. I have tried a 16GB USB flash drive, a 32GB SDHC card, and even a blank DVD. I ge the same error everytime. Is it a FAT32 limitation, or what am I missing here? How can I distribute this on flash media?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Create A Virtualbox Bootable Image File From A Bootable Usb Flash Drive

Jun 1, 2012

I created a bootable usb drive on a windows pc using windows 7 to install windows 8 preview and want to make a copy to install in virtualbox on my imac and burn to a dvd that will work on pc.

I've tried using disk utility to create an image and get a file ESD-USB.dmg, but virtualbox won't boot a dmg file.

I tried converting it in the terminal with:

hdiutil convert -format UDRO -o windows8.iso ESD-USB.dmg

but the resulting file was windows8.iso.dmg. I changed the name to windows8.iso, but even so, virtualbox complains it's unbootable.

I tried the terminal command:

dd if=/dev/disk4 of=windows8.iso

but virtualbox complained that it's not bootable.

I tried the terminal command:

cat /dev/disk4 > windows8.iso

but virtualbox complained that it's not bootable.

Question is should I send it back and get Rev D with 1.86 processor for $200 or keep Rev C. Biggest difference I see is SD card slot.

MacBook Air :: Can't Choose Between MB MBP And Air?

Oct 15, 2008

Well I have some money from a research grant to buy a new laptop as my trusty old Dell Latitude D610 is really starting to give up the ghost. I decided after I bought my Pro that I really didn't want to go back to crappy PC laptops, and I'm really psyched after the notebook update to get one of the new models, but I really don't know which.

Anyway, I went down to the Apple Store today to play with new the new MBs/MBPs. Everything was going pretty well really - until I realised how bloody heavy and wide the damn thing is! It feels quite a bit heavier than my Dell even though it's only 250g more. I virtually always have my laptop with me, and the more I think about it, the more the weight factor might become a deal-breaker for me. Actually, not having my laptop in the bag for the first time in a while has really made me realise how heavy the damn thing is - I'm not sure I want to put up with that for the next couple of years.

If I'm honest, the Air is really what I want. But I'm not sure how well it will cope with my daily routine, which generally has some of the following:

Running scientific programming applications - post-processing data, Fourier transforming it, etc. I've been really encouraged by the two-page thread on these forums saying that MBA is capable of doing this sort of thing. The 6MB L2 cache sounds really good.Casual gaming is something I've not been able to do with my D610, and it'd be nice if it were capable of running some lower end games (for example CS:S, HL2) even at reduced resolution. I've heard the 9400M should be good enough for this, but maybe I'll wait on that. Clearly the MBP is more cut out for this.

As you can see from my sig, I like photography quite a bit. Most of my photo work is done on the Mac Pro, but often I'll find myself out and about and would like to download the photos; it would be nice to be able to run Lightroom.

I listen to a heck of a lot of music, but I don't think there will be a problem here.
I'm virtually always online, web browsing and e-mail etc but again I don't think this will be a problem.

I think I can live with only the single USB port, and the lack of a DVD drive doesn't bother me greatly. Ethernet is a bit of a pain - ideally I'd like gigabit ethernet, so I'd need to give this some thought. Nothing I have has a Firewire port on it. Generally the only thing that gets plugged into my laptop is the iPhone and my headphones, so I think I'm good on that front.

The MB is also a sensible option, with most of the pros of the Air without the drawbacks. Weight is slightly less than my existing laptop, and I guess it's probably just as portable. It also has the option of a higher 2.4GHz processor, and more in terms of expandability. Not sure whether I really want this or not, though.

Hardware :: Which Keyboard Better To Choose

Dec 6, 2010

I am receiving my new Mac Pro this week. In PC world I typically used a Microsoft ergonomic keyboard. Presently I am on an original keyboard of the sort that accompanied this G4 tower. I really don't like these new keyboards that come with the current Macs. Too thin, white buttons, wrong feel. I have spent some hours researching keyboards. I would like to have a correct Mac keyset, if possible.

What are you using, the original keyboard, or have you replaced it? If you have replaced it, what did you buy, do you like it, and why? I would try one of the Tactile Pro keyboards found here, but hate the fact that it is white. It is hard enough to keep keyboards clean without them being white. I also wonder about wireless. It seems another thing to go wrong, though I may try a wireless mouse. What are you doing for a mouse?

Windows On Mac :: How To Choose The 32 Or 64 Bit Version

Jan 19, 2009

I'm about to install Windows Vista Ultimate (boot camp), but I don't know if I should choose the 32 or 64 bit version.

I'm talking about my unibody MBP 2,8ghz 4GB RAM.

I know only the 64bit can use all 4gigs of RAM installed, but maybe there are some other things I should know about too?

A while ago, a list was posted here with all software compatible with Vista x64 (but I can't find it again unfortunately) Can anyone post a link to that list too?
